It saddens me to say I don't like the shift to CTM/Survival. I love Adventure/Puzzle maps, which is why I loved EM1, but the CTM/Surv aspects of EM2 made me drop it in the beggining. However I wish you a lot of players that will enjoy the genre switch more than I did.
There is still a lot of puzzle/adventure elements here but you're right there is a bit of a shift towards a more survival mode. The biggest complaint of the first one was that it was too easy so I certainly boosted the difficulty for this one which I guess, unfortunatley, will make a few people that aren't fans of it. Still thanks for giving it a go and leaving feedback... most people don't
Now I'm feeling kinda sad,I'm stuck on version 1.02 on snapshot 12w37a because my current version will be broken with 1.4,but there's all that cool new stuff for the 1.4 version of the map, item names and descriptions and stuff, and I'm missing out!
I'm watching some of the 1.4 full playthrough that you streamed, trying to not spoil things for myself but I want those named items so bad aaaashdsdkonfiosdfhfiopnshg

You can run all versions in 1.4 so you can upgrade from 12w37a and it should work fine... you'll just be missing that extra stuff that was added later but it's just named items and extra loot, stuff like that... you could always rush to the end to see the story, then start a new one to complete the achievement room

Nah,I made lots of progress already so I don't want to start over, anyways just to ensure complete and utter compatibility I'm going to finish it in 12w37a(not to mention that I rather prefer the old sound effects from before 1.4)

So I just finished the map.Like literally just, like an hour or so ago.
I'm not really too happy with the big plot twist at the end.
In fact,I'm kinda pissed off.
Warning:MASSIVE spoilers ahead
The trailer very clearly states that this takes place after Eronev 1.Very,very clearly. He mentions turning on the generator, finding the trinkets, fighting The Beast(named such for lack of those changing unreadable letters),returning to the village, barging into the mansion, all that.(By the way, when he mentions "our only hope is in the soul cauldron",is he referring to Jarig who is still in the cauldron?Because that is a really wierd way to say that the only hope lies with Jarig, which is a point I'll get to later.
Then you go and say "Oh yeah all that happened AFTER the events of the map in the trailer that so very clearly implied that it was a sequel to the first map lol gg bro",stealing the player's sense of accomplishment as everything you did made little difference as we already know what happens next, with nothing changed.
I began to expect that Jarig was actually the Beast in disguise or something,I think that something like that(ie a real betrayal as opposed to a very temporary insanity) would have been a better twist.
Furthermore, why is it that, after all the player's trials and tribulations,Jarig suddenly becomes the main hero(and, thus, the real main character of the series),as opposed to the player character? After all that, the player is left with a sense of "...oh,so I'm not the important one in the story any more?".You end up stealing the glory from the player, who within the blink of an eye essentially is turned into a playable side-character that has little significance in the plot.
On the topic of Jarig,I honestly think that killing off Jarig would have been a MUCH better way to finish it off,as it would leave much more room for a new companion in Eronev 3.What you have done is pretty much force Jarig to play a very major role in the future of the story,as he's the super-powered guy who can be duplicated without being broken and can absorb souls and become nigh-invincible and all that.
Also, having Jarig explode with the force of precisely a whole goddamn lot of bombs at the end and then finding "lol I'm still alive happy ending woop woop" is a bit silly,TBH.
Now,onto the Cauldron itself:You didn't really give any exposition for it.All that was really learned throughout the whole story was that it could duplicate souls put in it,which doesn't really mean anything in context anyways considering we have no clue how that helps with anything, and that Ben found it under the pyramid near the mansion, which is pretty much impossible because the pyramid was like 5 meters tall and generally tiny in every direction.
Who made the thing? What was it made for? What does Ben need the souls for?Why on earth is there a forest of petrified trees in it?Why is it infested with all manner of creatures? How the hell does Ben have not one,but SEVERAL giant flying eyeballs under his control and can spy on the player out of them?
And finally, where the bloody hell was the Beast in all this? He's the major, overarching, supposedly unkillable big-bad of the story, the only hope of defeating him is apparently in the Cauldron(said hope is never elaborated on unless you were referring to Jarig),but he's not present in the map in any real way, apart from being mentioned a few times by Ben?
I find that just a little bit strange.
In general,I would honestly be pretty happy if the ending was overhauled and completely retconned in an update or something, because I really don't like this one very much.
Also, the map was pretty cool overall, but the cauldron was honestly much too small.
It would be much better if it had more gameplay-space within it,like some of the objectives of the map being found in deep networks of caves underground that snake and twist and interconnect, almost making their own little seperate map down there.Imagine finding a little cave on the surface, going in casually and before you know it having to set up another base and bed in some underground jungley thing you found because the network of caves is so damn big that it would be impossible to explore it all in one go.
There was alot of empty stone-filled space in the Cauldron, pretty much all the content in it was on the surface which was pretty small in comparison to the amount of space underground(and now that I think about it you could have done something in the air too, like a bunch of dungeons in the soul-conduits or outside the lip of the cauldron in floating platforms or something).
I was expecting much more stuff in the cauldron, like lots of optional dungeons or lots more secret chests or something, some more stuff like the cave with zombies wearing creeper heads and green leather pants or the cave with skeletons wearing black armor and wither skulls and holding stone swords, those were awesome to find.
optifine for 1.4.2 = I FINALLY CAN PLAY YOUR MAP!!!
I am positively giddy. My laggy limited experience of it during the snapshots left off a very good impression. I loved the narration and just use of everything else at your disposal.
It does have a very different feel from eronev mansion though. I liked it being more story centric rather than "place blocks here". Who knows though, maybe the story will progress as I poke about. I didn't get that far.

I'll start with saying Ben doesn't know everything as he thinks he does. By the end of the soul cauldron you could see that. He is under the impression that if he adds souls to the soul cauldron, he will create enough power/summon a being of power/create a way to beat the demon. Once E2 is complete, you have learned that Jarig could in fact be the one who can beat him... but not only that, that the both of you are ***SUPER MASSIVE SPOILERS, STOP READING IF YOU HAVEN'T BEATEN E2, SERIOUSLY*** The childs parents from Eronev 1. This fact, and the fact you were able to defeat Jarig, shows that you aren't just a wimpy little sidekick, that you in fact have quite a few skills of your own. The ancient poems keep telling you continuously that it's the pair of you that are important. Not one or the other.
The trailer tells you nothing that it's a sequel in the sense that it happens after the events of E1 timewise. You thought that on your own, as do most people, which is why twists are fun. The Ben in the trailer is telling about what happened in E1 and saying the only hope lies within the Soul Cauldron... which it does... he thinks.
I began to expect that Jarig was actually the Beast in disguise or something,I think that something like that(ie a real betrayal as opposed to a very temporary insanity) would have been a better twist.

The explosion is a product of necessity. I would have much rather, when the battle was over, to have his form change into the normal jarig form. This is impossible with the Minecraft engine, having him blow up is the only way to remove all the blocks. There is no other way the battle can have ended the way I originally wanted.

Questions are awesome, and while this map answers a lot, it also asks a lot and I am of the mind that if you finish a story, and have no questions, then the story teller was bored of his material. The unanswered questions mean that there is more that meets the eye, that your journey is not over, and there is more to discover. Some of those answers are already written though. Ben wants the souls to create a power to defeat the demon. The eye's are explained to be the same one and are not meant as a literal "thing" it isn't like a spaceship or anything, but it signifies him "looking" into the soul cauldron. When you're inside the eye, you're more or less outside the realm of the cauldron. Remember the communication stones in the first one? Think of them as a larger representation of those.

Correct, he isn't here.
In general,I would honestly be pretty happy if the ending was overhauled and completely retconned in an update or something, because I really don't like this one very much.
I can only hope, that if I get the time to make E3, I can answer your questions and wrap them up for you in something that makes you happy, but I wont be changing this story. That would be like watching a movie and coming out of it not liking the ending... and wanting them to redo the movie xD Isn't going to happen and I knew some people wouldn't like it... But I felt it was the story I wanted to tell anyway.
Also, the map was pretty cool overall, but the cauldron was honestly much too small.

I still love you Jig don't worry
long post hooo
Thanks for the super long post I love hearing all critisism including good and bad, and I know that the story, just as the map, would be polarizing. I think you're the first person who is genuinly angry at the ending, most people are in awe and are happy to be finding out the answers to some of the biggest questions from the first game. You'll be sorry to hear that I wont be changing anything though and the story is as it is. extra notes above
As for the Cauldron and play area of the map. There is a tonne more playable space in this map than the first eronev. If all the areas were placed next to each other they would span far greater than the first map ever did. In fact, if you have a look with mcedit under the surface, you will see there is really not a lot of room left for anything else. Sure I could have added a cave or two, but to what end. I'm taking it as a compliment that you wanted more content, only because you wanted to play the map longer which is what ever map maker wants to hear. When you have gotten to the end of the map, and you are still wanting more, then a map maker has been successful.
Just a question: Did you finish the traders quest? Also have you beaten the DDD yet also?

The map have a awesome world to explore and conquer but should be bigger, the story is deep and interesting, and the fights are pretty exciting unless you play it safe. However, one part I have trouble in, is the boss at the end, which I couldn't get the water into the holes.

If you fire the water when Ben says "fire now" it should go into his eyes. You have to make sure you hit both

optifine oddly has been making little or no dent in your map's lag. still getting 2 fps, STILL died in lava because of it. Blah! I had bare bones settings and everything, I've never seen anything like this.
Optifine's been doing perfectly fine at letting me play any map until now, even laggy, dense stuff like canopy carnage, if I crank down the settings enough. Not this. >.<
From my experience big things that cause lag:
-tons of flashing redstone
-tons of lava
-fences/nether fences/iron bars.

Sorry to hear that, I didn't think it would. There is no flashing redstone until you enter puzzle areas, then all redstone turns off when you leave. I also made sure that all the lava was pre-updated so it shouldn't be causing it either. It could very well be the iron bars/nether fence trees. It may also be the HUGE number of entities bogging the map down. Stuff like the picture frames, special mobs and nobody is sure about the effect of command blocks on the maps yet... I might release a version with less trees and see if that helps.

Good to see you replying.
First of all,no,I didn't finish either of them, but I don't think I'll bother with either of them because I watched those bonus episodes you did with whoever-it-was after finishing the map where you took on the DDD so I know how it works(though I might go in for the treasure),and the trader's quest, which I now understand how it works, may be incompletable for me because Rasmelc seems to have dissapeared from his shop and I probably lost some other traders along the way,as well as the fact that it seems pretty tedious.
You mentioned "answering questions from the first map",but there weren't really any questions left in the story of the first game. The "your parents say hi" thing wasn't really a major question,at least in the eyes of the player, who probably forgot the fact that the hero was searching for his parents a long time ago.
While typing this I have been looking around the map in Eihort(a 3D map viewer),and I see lots of empty or otherwise unused space.Enough space to fit several very extensive cave systems in there, enough space to add multiple hours of content, infact enough space to put a whole tertiary monument to have a whole third set of objectives to complete, with all the objectives(wool, perhaps)found in the caves which could snake between the primary dungeons and the redstone rooms and then have the large caverns in the big empty spaces, giving more information on the lore for those willing to explore them,as well as providing loot that becomes almost necessary for the harder areas of the map(of which there should be many more,it was honestly rather easy)as well as the later parts of the caverns which would be angry-Vechs-getting-creative hard.
To put it simply, there was a lot of free space which could have provided lots of underground content. Lots.
Now I really want to see what Eronev 3 is going to be like :V

Of course there is always more that could be added, but I set out to tell a story and the map is a vessel for it. There is a limit to how much "extra" you can add before it becomes too much. I think right now there is plenty of side content without sacrificing focus on the main goal of the map. The more you add, the more side stuff there is, distract the player and I feel like there is already too much. Again though, the fact you want more I don't consider a negative at all... you'll just have to wait and see what E3 offers... if I ever have the time to make it.

I think that the "side content" should have been somehow intergrated into the main story-quest,ie you'll really struggle to complete the main story if you don't get some really good equipment that will be hard to get without exploring the Depths(which is what I'll call the hypothetical series of tough-as-nails caves underground in the Cauldron with the second monument and all that).
I found myself struggling to have enough iron to really sustain myself comfortably,so I ended up trying to explore the netherfortress(which was kinda too small,my loot hunger was not satisfied enough in it) in the Orb Realm(which was also too small,I thought that there would be something inside the netherrack spheres, you could have put a spawner and a chest or two in each one and that would have been good),scouring for chests for iron and other things(including XP to get pimpin' enchanted stuff),but at that point I didn't really need it any more(by the way I lost pretty much all my iron in a catastrophous assault on that hole by the ruined castle place with the jumpy-swine-men).
While I do want more content,I don't want to complete the completionist monument/achievement room because it's not really content per se,it would be content if more of the items were found(keyword here is found like "found at the end of the dungeon as part of the fat pile of rewards" as opposed to hidden like "hidden in a dark corner that the player finds long after beating the dungeon while hunting for a few more eggs to fill the egg section") in new, different areas that contain other treasures(the shop with the enchanting table and the mouse story was a step in the right direction, several eggs were found there that I don't think were available anywhere else).
Now that I think about it the map was actually too easy oooh boy Jig you've got some hardening to do(but I played in 1.02 so I don't know if it's harder now)

It's funny that you say that, lots of other people are saying it's too hard! The difficulty seems to be quite a juggling act for this map.
Exactly! It's a very tough map to grief... since it's basically encouraged most of the time.
Thanks, the trailer took a lot of time to edit. Make sure you come back and tell us how you went.
I'm watching some of the 1.4 full playthrough that you streamed, trying to not spoil things for myself but I want those named items so bad aaaashdsdkonfiosdfhfiopnshg

Yes I do prefer some of the old sound effects too
I'm not really too happy with the big plot twist at the end.
In fact,I'm kinda pissed off.

I still love you Jig don't worry
long post hooo
I am positively giddy. My laggy limited experience of it during the snapshots left off a very good impression. I loved the narration and just use of everything else at your disposal.
It does have a very different feel from eronev mansion though. I liked it being more story centric rather than "place blocks here". Who knows though, maybe the story will progress as I poke about. I didn't get that far.
I would be very interested to hear if it actually helps. Be sure to let me know.
If you fire the water when Ben says "fire now" it should go into his eyes. You have to make sure you hit both
No, but there is a lot of TNT that fires at the same time so your client probably just crashed.
optifine oddly has been making little or no dent in your map's lag. still getting 2 fps, STILL died in lava because of it.
Great to hear! I look forward to your review
