Really nice custom map Seth, keep up the good work! It is really fun jumping around on blocks and survivng, especially since it is vanilla Minecraft and there is no need to install mods.
I love sky grid but id be nice if you could put in the resource blocks from mod's in it as well, least the ones from Industrialcraft and redpower, don't remember if buildcraft had its own

Then if you dont have such mods, your game will crash when trying to load the map
Getting the hang of this map. I don't mean to advertise for other maps, but I'm running Skygrid with the mods from Feed the Beast. Still have to get resources to make the mod items but I have a timer and block breaker going on my cobble gen. So it runs while I explore. Sorry if this is cheating but The way the map and resources are laid out, its still very challenging.
This is an awesome map, but there is one problem... You can't open the end portal at the level it is at... it can only be opened on the level it would naturally spawn at: on layer 28.
I found that out when I was making my own map a while back.
When I got to the nether all of the nether wart started to uproot. I managed to collect some but then died. Now, as far as I can tell, there is no more nether wart in any of the nether chunks that were loaded. Am I really locked out of potion brewing that easily or am I missing something?
I absolutely loved this map! I have an older laptop so it lagged a little. But with optifine and a few adjustments, it worked quite well.
I'm not very parkour proficient, so I fell a lot at first. Once I was able to get a small cobble generator for permanent block building things went better. But since there was so much to explore and cobble generating is so slow, I ended up making a snow generator. Pumps out lots of material for temporary blocks very quickly. Also has the advantage of fast block breaking without a tool in case I run out of shovels before returning to my home platform.
I like the lava/water updating problem. It throws in that extra little challenge after a few mc days - just about the time most people get their cobble generators up and running.
I was a little concerned when I got to the nether, but managed to build a good base there too. Only had the one bit of nether wart land on my head when I arrived though. Nether wart could be a problem on this map. If you miss it when you arrive, you may not be able to find any others.
Haven't tried to get to the End yet, so not sure if having it at the bottom instead of level 28 is still a problem (see Reetno's comment on previous forum page).
I am especially proud of my spawner trap I built using skeleton and zombie spawners very close together. Lots of arrows, bones and rotten flesh, but also the occasional iron bar, iron sword and iron shovel! Very handy when nearby iron resources start to get scarce.
Honestly, I haven't had so much fun playing minecraft since my first round of SkyBlock. But this is so different! It really is a whole new take on the game.
Just one thing... could you make a multiplayer map? The only change it needs it that it allows up to 4 players to safely spawn? Two players can barely make it if they know what to expect, but with more, they just die and die and die.
Thanks for a brilliantly executed and nasty twist to Minecraft, Seth!

(and that something is "learn to run-jump")
Did you know I write Science Fiction? Well I do. Check it out at http://planetretcon.com/books/

I've started posting my playthrough of the map to youtube. Check out what I've done so far and let me know what you want to see!
