I played both of the maps in 1.4.7 and thoroughly enjoyed them. I don't think anything monumental (badumcrash) has changed, so they should be all right. Also, if I recall correctly the updates are going to be more like overhauls, where a ton is changing.

Uh Half Stack? I don't think there's anything left that hasn't been done.... But if you can actually find something that has genuinely never been done before, and suprises the player in a way that they have no idea how to deal with the situation, you will win the status of best mapmaker ever.

Yeah one of those vulture stock music companies Is claiming the music in the video belongs to them (it doesn't.) they want to run ads on the video and collect revenue from it. I hate google with a passion and refuse to allow them to make any ad revenue off anything I do. So, video set to private.

Custom Spawners are about the only thing I can think of right now that can be used to create original area ideas. Knowing you, I bet you're going to make a really awesome and beutiful battleground for us to fight OP skeletons of death.
Also, no lava slide. Entirely new area. Pictures please? Or is that a seekret? (The lava slide would be cool though.....)
Yeah one of those vulture stock music companies Is claiming the music in the video belongs to them (it doesn't.) they want to run ads on the video and collect revenue from it. I hate google with a passion and refuse to allow them to make any ad revenue off anything I do. So, video set to private. Yea, I hear a lot of youtubers have issues with that. I think you already know about it, but Kevin Macleod has a lot of awesome music that could replace the other music. Way to show those idiotic music companies that you can retaliate to their "god-like" abilities!
I don't mean to rush you, but do you have an estimated release date for the updated FML? I can't wait! I may have also been stalking you on Project Ares a few days ago.
Remake them? Are you insisting there is even a SLIGHT issue with these maps, other than the broken Monument? I haven't played them (Except for FML), but from the pictures here and the things I've heard about them I have no doubt these bypass even the best of Vechs' work, aside from maybe late-game Legendary and Nightmare Realm (TBH, Nightmare Realm wasn't that hard. I found Legendary a much bigger threat, especially around I3 and up. As for aesthetics.... Yea, Vechs ain't got nuthin on 32. :D)
Addressing a few comments without using the multi quote feature:
VF III's layout is undecided yet. I just make areas first. This map seems to be more architectural than previous maps which is consuming a lot of time. Once I have all areas built Ill begin piecing them together and deciding on the layout. I have the idea of a completely linear map in the back of my mind but, i might save that for a mini map. I'm mostly leaning towards traditional linear branching CTM a la Super Hostile. Definitely won't be central branching like the previous maps.
Seeing as I don't have a lot of time on my hands lately I might just update the old maps with the new monument and some minor tweaks and fixes similar to what Vechs did with his old maps when updating to Anvil format. There still a lot of stuff I don't like about VF II so I imagine I'll take some time with that but, the first map, I should be able to just plop a new monument in there and call it updated. I might add some better upgrade/special gear and maybe some more alchemy. It's crazy to think but, most of the first VF map was made during the beta 1.9 pre-releases. It was very unknown to me at the time just how enchanting and potions would effect a CTM map.
The old mini map update is coming along nicely. There is now a checkpoint respawn system to cut down on the grind without reducing challenge. I'm kind of stuck on the new area. It feels like it should just remain SHFS and I should save the new area I'm building for something else. I don't want to go full George Lucas on the classics when I could just be creating something new. What's the consensus on that?

I think the current areas seem satisfactory. If you plan to make a new one, I'd instead use it for a new minimap or part of VF3.

Keep SHFS and use the new area for a mini map or something. You CANNOT replace SHFS, it's far too awesome.
