Am I allowed to remove void fog via *ahem* certain means? I noticed that a fair portion of the map takes place at quite a low level; and where it might be intentional for difficulty... it doesn't make for a visually stimulating video... :mellow.gif:
I think the map was made with bedrock fog in mind, but don't quote me on that.
But even with that in mind, I only experienced the fog in a few areas. Not much of a challenge/annoyance, really.
Actual number of areas where I experienced bedrock fog :
3
Also, you can bypass most of it by bridging around and staying relatively high.
From what I've seen this looks nothing short of freakin' fantastic!
I may very well start a Let's Play of this once I've finished Nightmare Realm (terrible faux pas of mentioning another CTM here, I know) and my schedule's clearer etc.
Few questions:
Could I use your Vinyl Fantasy graphic in the intros on the videos of the LP? (Accredited to you - or whoever made it - of course)

Can't think of anything else beyond wishing you all the best for the future of the map and hoping I get the opportunity to come back and play this map!
Absolutely! I need some more LP's to watch :smile.gif:
Not a problem at all if you want to use the graphic, here's a size that fit's 720p pretty good http://i.imgur.com/IkVFa.png
The font and the record icon were both free to use without attribution, I just combined them and added some details. You don't have to attribute me as the author of the graphic or anything as long as you're linking this thread in your video description.
Ahh, the void fog... I started developing this map before the void fog but, by the time it was complete the fog had appeared. The map was never really designed to use void fog to affect the gameplay one way or the other. Since I didn't anticipate the fog when designing most of the map, I'd feel bad telling people they are not allowed to remove it :smile.gif: So, yeah, your call I guess. I definitely won't consider removing it cheating :biggrin.gif:
Be sure to post a link to your videos as a reply to this thread to keep it active. I'll add your Youtube channel to the front page VIDEO section. Help me help you help me help you, that is how we prosper xD
expect it there soon! If you like it feel free to push subscribe!
Awesome! I'm subbed! Don't forget to post a link here to keep the thread active. I'll get you in the VIDEOS section when the first vid is up :biggrin.gif:
Would it be possible to add download links to older versions of the map? I'd love to play the map with the Technic Pack, if only for the Mo' Creatures hostile mobs. Unfortunately, playing it on 1.0.0 causes a loop of Saving Chunks screens once you leave the starting island.

Umm... The map version shouldn't be affected by the version of Minecraft you're playing. Most likely it's something to do with your mods. Here's the oldest version I have available for download v1.0.6 (the version before 1.1.0): http://www.mediafire.com/?63qs2g26oi2s01a
Millbee and I have started a playthrough of Vinyl Fantasy and had a lot of fun (and death and destruction) so far. Three_two this really is a great map (and not very easy). :smile.gif:
Here's the first two episodes. More episodes will be posted alternately on mine and Millbee's channels.

Hey thanks for posting Fallaron! I found your videos last night. Looks to be a great series :smile.gif:
He he, we'll see how it turns out. Definitely a great map, mate! I haven't been this scared building out over the void since I've played Skyblock. :smile.gif:

hey was that starting area with the colored trees inspired by the hallow in terraria?
The starting island design was inspired by an episode of Futurama where I noticed a background of trees with white-ish trunks and magenta leaves. I began playing around with that idea and came up with the color scheme you see in the map. I'll have to check the hallow in terraria to see where you noticed the resemblance :smile.gif:
Hi, this is a beautiful map, and refreshingly challenging so far.
Are we allowed to build more Nether portals after we find the one in the map? I like to use them for transportation.
Also, here's how I got past the Ghast grid:
I built a stairway from the JBM to the ceiling, then a 1x2 tunnel attached to the ceiling. With care, this can be built with relatively little exposure to the Ghasts, but it's quite dangerous. It was made easier by a piston I stole from the Nether portal "trap". I tried to aim the tunnel so it would only be in range of one spawner, but I activated two by mistake. To break each spawner, I steered the tunnel close to it and then dropped a few sand on it by placing against the ceiling. I used the sand to build downward a couple of blocks until I could reach the spawner to break it. With two spawners gone, I tunneled the rest of the way to the tree (and that's as far as I've played).
It wasn't easy, and a few times I barely survived a ghast blowing a hole in my tunnel. In retrospect, it may have been less trouble just following the main path, but I just can't resist interesting challenges. If you want to really make it impossible to get through them, there's probably a way to do that, or at least make it much harder. But personally, I get the most satisfaction from doing "impossible" things like that.
I love the map, thanks a lot for it!! Really challenging, but I like it. Great traps so far and obviously really great design of everything. Thanks again!

No, just the one that's pre-installed. I mean, you could try it but, most likely warping through a new portal placed in the nether would spawn you in the middle of a huge void in the over-world. Doing the opposite of that would probably land you in the middle of normally generated nether terrain.
the ghast spawners are just a strong suggestion. If I wanted to make it completely impossible to pass I could have. Just be glad they're not IN the tree like on earlier versions of the map :biggrin.gif:

I just wanted to let you know I have never had so much trouble obtaining a single sapling.
I didn't try to get around the ghast grid, I decided to go along the floating islands, and down onto the land the tree was sitting on. Once there, the bedrock fog made it nearly impossible to see where I was going but by running blindly I got inside the tree.
And then there was the ascent. I had so much trouble getting up. If it wasn't for the gifts at the bottom I probably wouldn't have made it.
So after making it to the top, I was expecting a record but couldn't find one. I'll go back to it later, but I managed to get down again much more quickly by using the ender pearls that were atop the tree.
So yeah that was fun (and by fun I mean almost the death of me), and I now have unlimited wood. :laugh.gif:
Sounds like you're on the right track. The big tree has got a lot to it :wink.gif:

Oh, I know how to build them so they go where you want them to go. I won't go outside the map, I'll just use them to quickly get to places I've already been. But if it's really against the rules, I won't.BTW, I found an odd bug in the map:
In the railway chest in the big tree, there are a bunch of brick blocks, but some of them are glitched. They look like stacks of bricks in your inventory, but they have a blank label, and when you place them, they turn into double stone slabs.

hmmm... that is an odd one. I'll have to check that out. I'm starting to think a standardized set of loot chest would have been a better idea than placing items in chests individually. Thanks for the feedback last_username, much appreciated :smile.gif:

What is the significance of the big snow man? I searched all around and inside of it and found nothing.

Yep, I should have a mini-map (3/11 records) in the next couple weeks! I'm working on Vinyl Fantasy II as well but, that's still very WIP
