Hi. So I'm kinda noobish, so I don't know whether this post matches here or not.
So I've seen a lot of adventure maps with checkpoint systems that automatically spawn you farther into the map if you die at a certain point. I do NOT mean beds.
Or simply use Command Blocks. Have a pressure pad set up, when you run/walk over it, it will give the redstone signal towards the Command Block, which enabling the Command Block. The command for it is /spawnpoint @p The ID for Command Blocks is: 137. Hoped this help!

What you need: 1 random block(i prefer quartz), 1 random pressure plate(i prefer gold), 1 command block( /give @p minecraft:command_block)
How to:
Just put the random block to the place you want and then put the command block under it. Put the random pressure plate top of the block and then enter this command to the command block "/spawnpoint @p"
If you want to have a block give you a checkpoint you first need a command block. Place this command block wherever you want it to be. Make it a repeating command block that doesn’t require restore. For this command example I will be using a diamond block. You can change this to what ever block you want. Type this command in: execute @a ~ ~ ~ detect ~ ~-1 ~diamond_block 0 spawnpoint @p

Create a command block constantly being activated over and over (use a 1-2 tick clock) with the command
/spawnpoint @p[x,y,z,1]
