You discussed an NPC faction that would protect new groups of players. If another faction was powerful enough, then would they be able to commandeer an NPC ship?
Remember when there were all those really funny Futurecraft V.S Aether stories. Good times..... Well I wasn't actually there but I was reading them as you posted them. In the mist.... Waiting and watching..... Anyway I made one! Yay!!!!
You just got Aether mod 2 and enter your brand new world and start punching wood. After about 3 days of playing you finally get the resources to build your new Aether portal. You build it very far from your base because you don't know what may come out of it as this is your first time. Once you are inside you build a base and spend many nights building it up and gaining resources. Then out of the sky appears a massive structure. "Wow I don't know they had dragons in Aether 2" you think to yourself. Then you realize it's not a dragon but a massive spaceship hovering over you charging some sort of light beam thingys..... It then shoots massive lasers vaporizing you along with all your items. You spawn back in your home world with no idea where your portal is.
This one's my favorite. As before, the horizon is 6km away.
The geometry shader stuff I mentioned last time is still pending. More day job interference, per the usual.
I am looking forward to trying out the curved planets theory. If the non-Euclideanness of the topology is not too noticeable, it could be pretty cool, and remove the screwy edge conditions which have always been a concern. Additionally, we can control the size of planets to a much greater degree. It won't be restricted to powers of two.
I haven't seen anything about new armor besides the info about the battle mech suits... Are you planning to add any other wearable armor or melee weapons? And will you be able to travel to a moon from a planet?
I read a post above about ship replication, and I think it would be great if you could put a schematic and some blocks in it could make that ship for you.
Also what would happen to the ships when somebody went offline if they disappear I can see that as a exploit in battle. However if they stated there it it would be really easy to dystroy.
would it possible to have a monthly pre alpha/ beta release of futurecraft on this page regardless of how buggy it is. Also what minecraft version is futurecraft for (i can't find anything on that forum).

That is currently impossible, there is nothing to look at in enginework and as enginework is about 2/3 of the work you won't be able to play it for a while. Also FC is independent from the MC version as there will be little left from the original MC in it.
Updating so much code each time MC updates will also be pain in the butt, instead I believe it will work similarly to adventure craft. If you've never heard of it, it is basically also a platform developed based on the MC engine that allows much greater freedom to map makers and as far as I know it is still in Beta 1.7.3 code wise , the whole difference is that the installer changes your current MC data (Lets say you play on 1.6.4 right now) to fit the 1.7.3 Beta code, Im not sure about the details or even if this description I gave here is accurate yet you get the point .
Conversation seems to be slowing down. Is this the end of futurecraft!!! I haven't heard Mackeroth (excuse me if I misspelled that) and nobody is saying anything. Please don't abandon it!!!!

We're working really hard on one of the most important aspects of the mod. Smurf-Spread (Infestation).
Anytime a ship is docked at a planet that has Smurf colonies infesting it there will be a chance of Smurf-Infestation on your ship which will allow Smurf-Spread to other planets. The chance of ship infestation is based on many factors such as number of smurf circles on that planet vs Gargamel Smurf-Eradication units.
Every ship undergoes a pre-docking scan before it can dock at any colonized planet or station. If your ship is Smurf-fected there is a chance that the scan will uncover this. If your ship is found to be Smurf-fected you will not be allowed to dock at that planet or station! This will obviously have negative affects on your operations.
As such, it is highly advisable that you kill any Smurfs on sight with extreme prejudice. You can even gain rewards from Planetary Governments for successfully slaughtering Smurf-Circles on their planet!
* There is obviously much work to be done on this aspect of the game, lots of decisions to be made, lots of details. For now it has been decided to have blood-mode be on for Smurfs as their blood is purple not red, and as such non-offensive.
** In-Game view of Player ship attack on a Smurf-Circle Infestation (NOT for the faint of heart!!)
*** Disclaimer:This post is only a joke and not a currently planned feature of Futurecraft. I do not officially speak for this Mod. (Also; the picture in the spoiler was made by the actual creator of the Smurfs for an Anti-bombing campaign in Europe by Unifcef)
A question spawned from an earlier post...
If there will be wearable armor (like leather or iron), will it be like Kryptonian armor or the exoskeleton in Elysium? And are the battle mechs like the robots the humans use in James Cameron's Avatar?

Last year Capcom had this pirate theme going. That was nice...
