Hey guys, sorry, I haven't worked on it much yesturday, school was starting again(Today was the first day, and all that work I needed to do over the winter break got procrastinated to yesterday), but i'm working on it again. Thanks for your patience. To have pong finished, I just need to: 1. Do something real quick and easy 2. Do the enemie paddles AI, and I am possible going to try 3. Make it drop ores based on score.
I am changing the way I'm doing this. I am working on this project, however, I will not make any releases until I have a have a lot done. Thanks for your patience.
Hello minecrafters! I have a mod that I have actually already started making. So heres a description:
- There is a block that when clicked opens up a new little minigame
- The minigame may be pong, or a platform game, or anything else.
- The minigame would drop ores like coal iron gold and diamonds based on your ingame score.
I don't know if I will ever actually make the game appear on the block, and if I do, I will probably make the videogame 2 blocks tall, and make it show on the top block. Although, as I consider the idea, I come to like it more and more. Instead of using a JPanel(and JFrame), I could simply draw what was being drawn onto the JPanel onto the image used as the texture of the block. The hardest part would be that I would have edit the code to allow the game to release the mouse, so it could be used in-game. I don't really have the slightest clue where to start in doing that.
Now, I'm sure a lot of you are thinking: "This idea is cool, but it sounds pretty hard to make, and the last amazing mod this guy proposed he didn't get very far with before quitting. He's never going to end up making this mod" As u may have heard of the mod I was going to make with my old parnter Grim3212, called the Multiverse mod, where we were strongly promised we'd finish it - despite our lack of experiance, and we didn't actually finish it... I didn't finish it cause i got good enough at java that I became interested in making my own basic swing games and such, and forgot about modding altogether. But this mod would merge those things. Most of my code would be seperate as an independant game, in an area I am quite fond of.
Let me explain how i will make the game in java code. You probably won't understand this if you don't know much about coding in java.
I am going to make an undecorated JFrame pop up in the center of your Minecraft window. Then I'll just use basic swing game programming to make a simple game. 2 videogame ideas I have are: Pong, and a platform game based on Minecraft. I'd have a few base classes that are used by all videogames - A main class that handles the JFrame and such, as well as a Objects class that handles things like collisions, and movement, and other such things needed for any object. On simpler games like pong, I will just use anonymous inner classes for the objects, like balls, and paddles, but on something like a platform game, I would probably need to make a few independant classes.
Another possibility is that I could try to just make a JPanel over your minecraft window. I don't know if that will work just because the game is 3D and i'd be putting a 2D jpanel over the top of it.
Really I won't have to know much about the inner workings of minecraft, and how to make the code work with minecraft, because most of my code will be independent from that game environment. All i'll need to know is what I allready know in java, plus how to make a modloader compat block, and also how to drop an item(Code I can copy from a dispencer).
Hopefully this reasures anybody who doesn't think i'm upto the job. Now, I'd love to hear all of your ideas, so tell me, what games would u like to see, or any other ideas you have.
1.0 coming out tonight(Hopefully, but if I don't start seeing yepyep being system.out.println, It could be tmro) Release includes working pong game... Not much more
Making a video game mod for minecraft. Going great. The idea? blocks when clicked open up a minigame that rewards you with ores and such based on your ingame score. Almost finished with beta version, which features a very basic pong game.
UPDATE:
So, making progress, I have gotten the block to open my game window when clicked. :biggrin.gif: Thats great, because it means I just have to make the game now.
Thinking just making pong, cause pong is easy. Then, once pong is working, i'll make my 1.0 release

I am having 1 problem, if anybody knows how to help, that'd be cool, otherwise, it's not a big problem, and i'll keep working on the game.
The problem: Does anybody know what class extends the abstract class Minecraft, or how I can find the location, and size of the game window? Without it, I can't really place the minigame on the screen in relation to the game window. Thats allright, but I'd like to beable to do that.
Edit: Making progress - Almost 50% with pong(The base game, may change the graphics ect at later date, or add to it)
Edit2: Will be releasing 1.0 before the end of today - Estimated release time 5:30(My time) Edit: Random problems with eclipse, release time delayed

I support this.
This could actually get really good.
I came up with an awesome idea!
How bout: Get the code from minicraft, and make that the game your'e playing :ohmy.gif:
That would be cool, but it sounds easier than it would be, cause i'm not really sure how the code works, and really, just copying it, would just kinda open a second minecraft, completely seperately and independantly.
I'm glad to hear the support. And sorry it's late, haha, I kinda just watched a movie, and didn't get anything done. But all I got to do to finish the beta 1.0 version, is finish up pong, which is mostly done, and then, i'll probably release 1.0. There is a reason it's just beta 1.0 tho, it's not all that cool yet.

Sounds cool and all but 1. Have fun making that game show up in the same window as Minecraft and 2. Platform games are a pain to make. Also, just a tip, this belongs in the WIP section of the Minecraft Mods section.

1. The plan was to make it(if you read the original post, you should know this) appear on top of minecraft in a new JFrame(Window) of it's own. I was considering making it edit the texture for the block, so it was ingame, which wouldn't infact be too hard, but I didn't commit to.
EDIT: As it is created from within minecraft's code, it can still interact and use minecrafts methods, and such, but, it's in it's own window, so it has a certain amount of indepandance, and doesn't have to work with the code as much.
2. I've made myself a platform game already in java. I am well aware of the exact difficulty, and I can in fact copy much of the code from that platform game.
3. When I posted it here, it wasn't exactly a wip. It is now, so if a forum moderator would like to he is more than welcome to move it to the appropriate catagory. And also: "Only threads for the advancement of mods. The mod has to have already been started. Help with java code." That is what it says for the description. Mod has already been started. It does sound, upon re-reading it, more like a help section, so if that is so, I apologize for the mistake.

Haha lists are always fun, btw, your platform game, might i get a screen shot of it. I'm having trouble with jumping in my platform game I am making
Gime a second, and I'll edit this post with a download for the jar, and the src code, zipped together. You program games in java? Or how are you making this game?

It's in java, the only other programming language I have used is c++ and I suck at it
Haha, I actually started out in C++, but I got into java(Because of modding actually), and for some random reason, I like it much more. Probably just because of the tutorials I was taking. I'm actually only 15, but I'm suprisingly good at java(I'm not a master, but not a lot of 15 year olds are as good as me? A nerd? Kinda, but I'm awesome anywayz, and I got good looks (: )
But that's cool. So is it just a swing game? Also, a hint for the code for jumping... Theres a but load of coad in there, go into the object class, in the move method, and find the if(falls) thing.

I support you 101%! :biggrin.gif:

I have toyed with the idea of setting the blocks texture as the games window. To do so I need to either:
1. Be able to get it to accept an image I create in java, instead of a file. (By default you type an int, for the position in the terrain.png. Using modloader u use, ModLoader.addOverride("terrain.png","/Folder/image"); Neither way allows for passing in an image, or something created in java
2. Be able to get it to accept an image from a custom file directory, which I can change, NOT INSIDE THE JAR.
I can not edit an image inside the jar. You can edit images inside jars, but only if that jar is not running, otherwise it's rights are protected. Even then you have to extract it, edit it, and compress it, overriding the old jar.
