Minecraft 1.6.1 just came out, and I'm really confused about how we're supposed to mod it. The old "appdata\roaming\.minecraft\bin" is just 1.5.2, and the versions folder just contains a jar file and a json file. I'm sure more info will be released as time goes by, but I was wondering if i just didn't get the memo and 1.6 is super easy to mod. Thanks in advance.
Srry to say but i dont think you can mod yet because Forge hasnt come out for 1.6.1 yet
Aww, oh well. Although I swear I saw a few 1.6.1 mods out there. Anyways, I'm sure more info will come out sooner or later. I just can't live without my mods
They say that 1.6.1 is the new update, 1.6 live, but the update has no sun or moon on tiny render, you can't copy special items from item frames or anything. I don't believe this is the full version YET.
Forge Mod Loader / Risugami's ModLoader is not out for 1.6.1 yet, so the creators might need to re-code their mod loaders for 1.6.1. Please be patient.
For those of you telling him to be patient, he's not complaining about the mods not having updated, he was just asking the question of how we'll have to mod the game later. I didn't know this either, so yeah.

The Sun and Moon have never rendered on Short or Tiny render distances afaik, that's a feature of Optifine.
For those of you saying you need to have forge to mod you're obviously retarded. Forge in and of itself is a mod that adds kind of a mod API that makes it easier to add other mods. Mods like forge that go into the java archive are called "jar mods" and mods that go into the mod folder are called "forge mods". There are many mods that are jar mods and don't require forge, such as: Optifine, Rei's minmap and Zan's mini map which gives you the option to use forge or not. And as for
The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

I used MCPatcher to patch in forge which normally works, and they do have 1.6 forge out, but it doesn't seem to work. I replaces unused classes with the normal ones, or it notices that META-INF is gone. Plus I followed all these steps:
Well, if you have a mod available in the short time between the update and now, you can still mod the jar, just not easily.
To do so, you can go to appdata\roaming\.minecraft, and then, instead of going to the "bin" folder, you have to go to the "version" folder.
You should see all of the versions that you have downloaded on the new launcher (i.e, 1.6.1, 1.5.2, etc.)
What you have to do is make a NEW folder, and name it anything you like, such as "Modded", or "yugewfkqegyvfqbvkyefve".
Then go into the "1.6.1" folder and copy all of the items inside. You should notice that there is a .jar in there.
Paste those items into the folder that you just created and rename them the same name as the folder.
Now open the file labeled as a .json (Modded.json, 1.6.1.json, etc) in Notepad, Notepad++ or any other text editor.
Then, next to the id, where it says "1.6.1", you replace that with the name of your folder.
Then you mod the .jar in your folder however you wanted to mod the minecraft.jar.
You open up your launcher, create a new profile, and under "version", there should be a version with the name of your modded folder.
You run that version, and you're done!
Hope this helps!
When I do this, it says:
Gave up trying to download https://s3.amazonaws...tterVanilla.jar for job 'Version & Libraries'
Job 'Version & Libraries' finished with 1 failure(s)!
Any ideas on how to fix that?
As of now, I want to use the new launcher to mod Minecraft 1.5.2. Is it correct that the minecraft.jar in the /bin folder with the new launcher is for 1.5.2? Sorry if that isn't a really clear question. Also, sorry about how this isn't entirely related to the thread.
Watch this video, it shows step by steps on how to mod. In this video it shows to to install Optifine 1.5.2 Mod using the new 1.6 Launcher.
When Optifine 1.6 is released you can follow the same steps to install it too.
To do so, you can go to appdata\roaming\.minecraft, and then, instead of going to the "bin" folder, you have to go to the "version" folder.

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with the subject, but what program adds the little checkboxes next to your folders? Thanks.

Back in these for'ms here, and mods have been updated, mods have been created, and mods have died. The circle of life continues.
They said they were working on mod API, they added it for shaders I believe.
I need help! I love Galacticraft!
I am being honest.
Ugh, I love you so much right now. I've been trying to figure this out all day. Thank you!
I am being honest.
Its in Windows Enterprise Edition, or something like that
EDIT:
Go to your start menu,
type folder options
in the view tab, there should be a "show checkboxes" option, or something like that.
When I do this, it says:
