I was working on making fireflies as a mob in game that would spawn at night and give off a glow. They could then be captured in a jar. once you got 4 fireflies in a jar you could craft it into a light-giving block with fireflies inside. I then discovered that the engine doesnt currently support mobile light. So the question now is: should I go about making a block that has a minor glow to it that spawns much like grass that, when broke, releases a (non-glowing) firefly to be captured; or just have the mob wondering around (not glowing) to be caught and used in the recipes. Or should I even bother making this mod at all. Any input would be greatly appreciated. :laugh.gif:
The original idea came from the fact that there aren't really enough things that would look good in a tree house, which method should the be acquired though?
I like the idea, but I prefer fireflies as anything but a block or a mob. They should just be rare little beads of light you should see in swamp and plains biomes.

Can you think of something that is already in-game to compare this too? I'm not sure I get what you mean
I think it should be none of the above, but a randomly spawning entity block that glows and shifts texture often.
It cannot be destroyed, disappears at light levels above normal night levels, and when right clicked with a glass bottle will capture them.
But, that's just what I'd like to see in a mod. I do not know how much capability this requires.

If you were to make them capture-able, I'd say you should be able to do it by right clicking a firefly with a bottle in hand.

So it would be like a water source being 'picked up' by a bucket in this case. I can see this working. and I think its all pretty possible except maybe making it disappear. Anyone else want this idea over the ones in the poll?

Hm, and I thought the light level would be the easier thing to do.
But, if that were possible, I'd definitely download that.
I'd really love the ambiance it gives off.

I will try to make this and give the people that voted a shout-out when I finish. Thanks for all the help everyone!
Just make them look like yellow experience orbs that you collect when you right click with a bottle in your hand
I think I'm going with neo's idea, but once I get the initial programming done I may Make it to where you have the option of breaking the block and experience orb-like dots will fall out and you can then use the jar on the orbs, or just use the jar straight on the block. regardless I have a whole different strategy of going about this now so I pretty much am starting a fresh mod.
