I have been playing a lot of survival games lately and trying out mods that make the game harder but a big problem I have run into is that you can get advanced building materials extremely quickly. I can build a stone house on the first day! Monsters are so not a threat... I am requesting a mod that would prevent this and force players to use basic materials at the start of the game. I have given it a lot of thought and this is what I have come up with.
-Remove ability to gather wood via tree punching
-Make leaves drop sticks every once in a while
-Replace wooden tools with flint tools. They would use the stone tool models but be slightly darkened. These tools would also only require the starting 2x2 crafting box. ie.
:Flint::|: = Flint Axe for example
:::|:
-The flint pick would have horrible durability and only be able to mine 3 stone.
-Increase the amount of clay on map. Also make it so a stone shovel is required to collect it.
-Reduce durability of stone pick so that it can only mine about 7 stone.
-Change it so Furnaces require clay instead of stone.
-Increase durability of Iron Tools by around 25%.
If these small changes are made it will force players to use more resources, explore their surroundings more, and advance through the game slower. Thus players will have to build buildings from easier to obtain materials at the start and thus be more vulnerable to monsters. So instead of jumping straight to stone castles players instead go through different phases.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone with some modding skill would make these small changes for me. Also if anyone has an idea on how to improve this and lengthen the game progression feel free to comment.

How do you make flint tools without wood? =P
Not sure how this would make minecraft harder, it would just make it require more time.
In the survival games I play it's too easy even with the SurvivalCraft Mod, there is no challenge. The idea is to stop people from jumping straight to stone buildings, that are effectively monster proof. Instead players have to work their way through several techs in order to build better shelters, kinda like in certain RTS' or Civilization. Players have to explore to find resources like gravel and clay in order to tech up. See below.
Right now you run to a tree, punch it, build a wooden pick, get stone, and build a giant totally invincible stone castle. As it is so many blocks are purely decorative, when they should be being used regularly. Stone is so effective and easy to get.... I understand if other people wouldn't want to use it but personally this would make the game much more fun for me.
I could give it a go bud. Would you like it to be 100% ModLoader Compatible? Or can I edit default classes (may have to to lower uses/make wood un-obtainable with fists)
Thanks Joshj5hawk! If at all possible mod loader compatible would be nice, I probably would want to use it with other mods. In specific SurvivalCraft and Survivalism, neither which would effect any blocks this mod would change I think.

Alrighty I'll give it a go :biggrin.gif: shouldn't be too hard. The default classes that I edit shouldn't mess with Survivalism, or SurvivalCraft, IF they do, I'll find a work around of some sorts. I'll get started as soon as I get home from Breakfast :biggrin.gif:
Just a little update for you.
I have made it so that the leaves will drop sticks, as of right now, there is a 1 in 7 chance of this happening, yet it still seems a little rare, so I'm going to test 1 in 6 and then 1 in 4.

also time is kinda limited on your first day- you need shelter before nightfall
