Hm, ran into an odd little problem with thaumcraft(4.0.5b) when I look at greatwood tree leaves... they turn into silverwood leaves! At a distance they look like green normal greatwood leaves but as I get closer and see the name they flicker in the blink of an eye and change into silverwood leaves. This probably started to happen around 4.0.5, because I didn't have this problem earlier. At first I thought it might have been an id conflict but it wouldn't have looked like this? I'm removing my thaumcraft configs and will see what happens on the server.
That's caused by NEI tooltips or Waila. Disable them.

Hey Azanor, I'm noticing that since the implementation of the tubes, the alembics have become rather obsolete. I have a suggestion that might fix this:
Allow essentia to flow IN to an alembic. You might be thinking that perhaps that's pointless, but it's not. Because it would allow you to make subnetworks that allow essentia to go in, but not out of. In Layman's terms, one-way gates.
Void jars allow you to regulate and get rid of excess ammounts of useless essentia. But what if you wanted to store a bit more? Lets say I wanted to store... Precantatio, for arguments sake. But I wanted more than just that 64 essentia limit. I could place an alembic somewhere in the tube network, and a jar in the place jars go. The essentia can drip down into the jar, but not back up.
The only problem I see with this is the issue of how to connect pipes to the new jar. Sure you could use a golem. But it would be nice to be able to connect it directly too. I don't know if tubes connect to the side of the alembic that has the spout. If they don't, then you're golden. If not, then you may have a problem there.
Anyways, just an idea. I love the way the alembic looks and would love to see it return in other uses.
Problem: I (most people I suspect) "explore" different bioms mostly on the surface. Mining - even caving - I do far closer to home due to the amount of stuff its easy to accumulate. That said - wherever I have placed my first base, Ive never had a problem getting enough shards to get scanning quite quickly.
I too just mine under my base which is in the plains/forest/river biomes. I go about 128 blocks in each direction - branch mining and turtle (I am also mining for other mods - AE, BC, IC2 etc). I have built about everything in Thaumcraft and as of now have 130 yellow, 20 red, 28 white, 40 dark, 40 blue, and 108 green shards left. I did some research earlier which indicates all 6 infused stone types are everywhere. It is true certain infused stone are found at a higher rate in certain biomes but for me it does not seem all that worth while setting up new mining operations at remote locations.
# The chance per block update (1 in n) of the Taint biome spreading. Setting it to 0 prevents the spread of Taint biomes.
I:biome_taint_spread=0
and taint still spread! what to do!?
Is it taking over new chunks, or just filling out the chunks that already have a bit of taint in them? With taint spread set to 0, you should get the latter but not the former.

You want a farm, you grab a hoe. You want a boat, you grab some wood. You want a fireplace, you grab A FLAMING HELL-BOULDER BECAUSE THAT'S HOW MINECRAFTERS ROLL!!!

Perhaps not worth setting up a mine, but it's well worth the time to find a natural cave entrance in the corresponding biome. The very large amount of naturally exposed rock makes finding shards easy, and you don't have to lift a finger to do it.
sry I cant understand this : you should get the latter but not the former.
and yes it spread all how it want, and i mean taint "fibrous taint" its taking over trees grass mobs , all ... It will destory my map -,-
I want to get rid of this no matter how
Minecraft is divided into 'chunks', set areas of land. Don't worry, the taint will only spread in the chunk it's in now. The fibrous taint will grow within that area but no further.
If you want to get rid of it, I recommend ethereal blooms. Try researching Vitium to find them.
I had once found a silverwood that was as large as a greatwood. I'd post a screenshot of it, but I cut it down long ago. I regret cutting it down before taking a screenshot of it.
@Zratrek
Take a look at this screenshot. This is a tainted area that was generated in the first few versions of TC4 and I've spent lots of time there, and close enough for it to be chunkloaded. Take a look at the minimap. Now, do you really think taint will consume your whole world? It's not any threat unless you decide to build right next to or in the taint.
since phials now seem to return empty when you use them on jars, instead of being consumed
(unless that was a bug, and not intended. but i noticed, that i got my phials back after using them.)
I have always received my phials back, so I think you either experienced a bug in which you did not recieve them back, or just never noticed(unlikely).

There is a rare mythical button called "Search" that likes to answer questions; however, due to its nature, it often blends in with its surroundings so as to remain hidden.

I'm almost certain he means back in TC3. In TC3 I clearly recall phials being 1 time use only.

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.
Whoa. I just had a silverwood form TWO pure nodes.
When I first found a silverwood tree, I thought Nodes would still spawn like they did in TC3. So when I seen the black dots on the trees, since I didn't have my Thaumometer and it was before I made goggles of revealing, I broke it. I didn't realize it was a node block until I was able to get the tree aspect.
I think there might of been buggyness with the look of the taint biome that I found out WAS loaded when I was at my base. On a semi-related note, I need to get more Taint fighting things, and fast.
any tip on getting blaze in the nether... I need some magma cream and blaze rods...
Since you can get blaze powder and slime balls in the overworld, you can brew up some fire resistance potions and become 100% invincible to blazes.
If you're talking about finding them, that's just a matter of locating a nether fortress. They're not too uncommon really, but with the way the nether is laid out and their super dark colouring they can be a pain to find. Not much to say but keep trying.
where do you find blaze powder in the overworld???
Thaumcraft adds a few plants to worldgen. One of them is only found in deserts. You might want to give it a whack...

Angels are bright, though the brightest fell. Though all things foul would wear the brows of grace; Still grace must look so.
And by the way; Who is John Galt?
Hey, I have affixed an arcane bore to the front of my Archimedes ship. I have one question though, is there a block that the bore will not mine through? Because of it's location, it is taking apart my ship, and I dare not increase its width unless I can secure the front properly.
I too have had clay issues in the past, sometimes having to travel a fair bit to find a descent source of the stuff. So perhaps a Clay Transmutation would be a good idea? Make it take say, 3 aqua and 3 terra in a crucible, and then drop in a piece of dirt and boom you've made a clay block.
Something else I wanted to note, though it's not really a problem per say, We've been using the mod Extra Utilities with this, and they add a seed called Ender-Lily Seed, it's basically a slow growing ender pearl. However it grows faster on End Stone. Currently the golems will pick it once mature but won't replant it (on end stone at least, I suspect it will work just fine on tilled soil but growing them on soil takes 4x longer). Would it be possible to make them attempt to replant them on End Stone?
Sounds like a nice gimmicky [I don't think this word is the one I want, but whatever] mod. Good for those that just want items out of it but also with more intricate mechanics.
What happened to your other mod idea, Ross?
Sorry for the late response, but uh...no, that was more an idea that I was seeing if any other modders wanted to pick up. Someone said they would, but I've not heard from them in months. Might look into that one too.

I may have a workaround. See if you can use a golem with a Use core to make them plant stuff on there, specifying the Endstone with a golem bell.

Click it with a wand. Possibly shift-click, one or the other.

Heh, yeah. I've had Silverwood trees that have upwards of 7+ nodes in them.
The most I've had from a tree I grew was 2.

I'd say the wand Focus: Frost should work. I never tested it, but it's the water one, so I believe it'd do more damage to them.

Right-click. Thanks for that - I can rest (semi-)easy now.

blazes can melee punch you, so not 100% invincible
