Ok so I have a problem I install the mod Just fine, you know taking it into your mods folder and whatnot but it doesnt show UP on my mods list ingame nor does anything show up while im actually playing. Please I need some help guys I love this mod and want to play with it
Thanks TPB for the excellent reply. I have the distiller but did not think to use the phials in the crucible. Using phials and Ctrl + Q worked on the first try!
For the more complex and larger crucible recipes, you will want to be using phials almost always. Ethereal blooms are expensive to make, but a very good item.
Wow the new research system makes my head hurt lol. Is it supposed to be this overly complicated or am I just that crap? I have only researched a couple of starter items and nearly gone through all of the aspect points already..
You tried discovering aspects by combining at the table, didn't you? That wastes the initial discovery bonus, and keeps you from exploring in actually collecting new points.

(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
the beans being randomized is fine in principle. it guarantees, that your harvest should be evenly distributed across all aspects, and you dont have to find 50 different beans first, to have acess to all aspects.
the only thing that bugs me with them at the moment, has more to do with the golems. i currenly need 1 golem per tree stump, to maintain its 4 pods. because if i plant them on ground level, my golems will get stuck on the pods like on other non solid blocks. if i have my harvest golem on ground level and the pods 1 level above, he wont harvest the beans, unless he stands right next to a pod.
so the only way to farm them, seems to have 2 woodlogs stacked on top of each other, with the beans planted on the upper log, and the harvest golem standing on top of it. this means i have 9 harvest golems on my magic bean farm.
but this should be fixed, as soon as azanor looks into golem pathfinding.
another way to handle this would be with gargoyles. having flying version of the basic golems (wood, stone, iron), could come in handy for things that would be out of reach for regular golems. just saying azanor
actually, if the beans would stay the same, it'd make it worth a whole lot more to start trading with pechs. right now if you get 1 bean you pretty much have every bean type available if you're willing to spend the time for it.
I haven't figured out yet though how to use the harvest golem for automating the beans...
What is the harvest golem's search area for beans? 9x9 square?

Hey guys quick question Ive been trying to install THaumcraft 4 for the past couple of days but i keep running into a problem. I can install the mod quite easily but it doesnt show up in my mods list nor do any of the items show up. I dont know whats wrong and I dont know what to do do fix it so any help would be welcome Thanks for your time, I'd like to also mention that the game is running just fine just nothing from thaumcraft is showing up
I am really surprised at a lot of the complaints. This thread is either full of people complaining about the research system or suggesting terrible ideas.
I think the research is fine. When I started playing I was naive enough to try combine all the aspects, even created a table for all the combinations I had tried. I ended up with no aspects for research.
With just PLAYING THE GAME (building, exploring, etc) and scanning things I found on the way I have finished the research and most of my aspects have 100's of research points left.
Joining the masses with terrible ideas, I would suggest making the research harder. Disable combining aspects on the research table (for discovery, not for replenishment). Disable creating research notes on the table and make getting research notes exclusively from research with the Thaumometer in the world.
Really enjoyed the Thaumcraft series and this is by far my favourite iteration.
i think i found out what mod gets thaumcraft to crash: hardcore enderdragon (or maby thats one of manny) cant show the crash log right now, i am testing my hallowin private tech pack and its still crashing :/ (not thaumcrafts fault)
This part is specially important. When you discover a new aspect, you get double the amount of it you would normally get. But making them in the research table only gives you one, so you get two. Now, while scanning stuff you can discover aspects [as long as you already know the two aspects that make it] and it's also doubled, but instead of always getting two, you might get four, eight, twenty of it.
Oh, and make sure to scan stuff while carrying scribing tools [or whatever is the name of the item] and paper, since you might get researches that way [even researches that you can't even acquire yet].
I think mixing aspects in the research table is a terrible thing to do unless it's your only option, because of the absolute minimum discovery bonus you get there. If anything, it should be higher than going out and discovering aspects via scans, because you're consuming research to get the discoveries.
Fixing this is easy. Make the discovery bonus a flat value, not based on how you made the discovery. Or increase the bonus if it's a discovery done via the research table. Or set a minimum bonus. Regardless of how it's fixed, a multiplier is a bad way to give out a bonus, since a new player scanning things won't know what bonus they're going to get, and a desperate player will lose out on the bonus altogether. A lot of things only have 1 of an aspect anyway, so what's the point of getting a single bonus research point?
I also think combining aspects in the research table should be more lucrative. Instead of consuming 2 research to get 1, it should be 2 for 2. Someone trying dumb combinations will waste aspects anyway, so why punish them for succeeding by giving such a terrible exchange rate?

I agree with this (or at least the 1st part). Research is perfectly fine. I myself enjoy the minigame.
I beleve the current problem with the research system isn't the research system itself, it's that the thaumonomicon dosen't explain the research points from cyrstal clusters and other blocks nearby. If the decon table was avalible from the start then there would be no reason for anyone to complain that they are stuck (unless they lack the resources to make it).

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.
My only real problem with the research and all it's intricacies is that we were told there'd be a doodle god part to research but the way things are right now that aspect is mostly not a smart way to go about finding aspects. We can do it, but it wastes large numbers of aspects. Instead the only real practical way to learn aspects is exploration and scanning. Doodle god! I want more doodle god!

1. I'd like to see a 'use' Golem who's given a tool (specifically, Pickaxe of the Core) actually use it like a pick instead of the activation for that tool, that way we can automate converting iron/gold/quicksilver ore into clusters.
There's already a way to do that. A use golem can place blocks in the path of an arcane bore that's been loaded with a pick of the core.

I'd really love it if the mod explained, at least briefly, how to actually do research. The process isn't necessarily intuitive, and could easily be explained in a small section of the Thaumonomicon or a short tutorial.

Learn some Java before you mod, and skip over the chapter on ModLoader, straight to MinecraftForge. It's better. Trust me.
Sorry if this question's been answered before and I missed it (good gods, the traffic on this thread is high). Is there any way to scan a node formed in a silverwood tree without breaking the tree, other than by carefully shearing leaves until you expose the log containing the node?
For the more complex and larger crucible recipes, you will want to be using phials almost always. Ethereal blooms are expensive to make, but a very good item.
You tried discovering aspects by combining at the table, didn't you? That wastes the initial discovery bonus, and keeps you from exploring in actually collecting new points.
Thank.
