Just an update on this...... I managed to solve the problem. There was an old CONFIG file for Thaumcraft from a previous installation of Feed The Beast. Once I deleted this file, everything worked fine (running Thaumcraft 4.01b).
so a lot of people have been saying that putting crystal clusters near the research table gets you research points but i had my computer on and came back half an hour to an hour later to find i had no new points, also nodes a REALLY hard to find do they only appear in structures? (silverwood trees, totems, temples)

they recharge realllllllly slowly, especially the air it seems. Nodes should spawn everywhere, they're all over the place in our world, especially in the ocean (which happen to have fire in them, go figure lol)
they're hard to spot at first but once you know what to look for it gets a bit easier to find them. they can be seen by the naked eye but they're very very faint.

I found lots of nodes in my world,sometimes you find them in big forest trees,or in underground lakes,something that differ from the biome general aspects.
Is the Thaumostatic harness recipe not working? My friends and I were trying to make it but, it stops gathering after it has taken the required essentia. We had the recipe correct, we had the correct essentia, we even balanced it out but it always fails. We tried three times and nothing. Can anyone tell me what we're doing wrong?
well its weird everyone says they found lots of nodes but i have not found a single node anywhere in my world aside from the nether and world gen structures. maybe my retrogen failed somewhere?

make sure you have the items in their proper place as per the recipe and also make sure that if something falls off to put it back on the pedestal immediately. don't spread the items out so that there is a gap between them unless its simply just a extra table.

so if i gather a bunch of nodes in jars because I want them in my house so I can suck on them when I need to, how many can I put side by side and is it possible for them to end up blowing up?

i look for nodes at night with the goggles of revealing with flight and i still have yet to find any. can i restart the retrogen just for nodes? cus i think mine is botched

Okay, this is a bit odd. On my singleplayer world I could scan aura nodes just fine and get research points for it. On my multiplayer, though, scanning a node doesn't give any research points at all.
This could make research seriously painful. Any idea what could be going wrong here? I thought I saw mention of someone not getting research from scanning aura nodes, but a quick scan didn't turn it up and it's not like I've never had it work...

There actually is stuff you can do with them. I haven't used anything down that road myself because my SP world has an insane dearth of diamonds, but I think you start being able to learn about it once you have infusion - and maybe the research mastery and/or node tapping research as well. I can't remember when it showed up, but if you can ever research the charging pedestal you'll be on your way.

The compound recharge focus lets you use this normally unobtainable vis. It breaks it down to only one random primal aspect, but It's still extra vis you wouldn't be able to use otherwise.

Err, there is no "Bone Wand Core" item. You just use a bone in a wand recipe instead of a stick, and it has to be in the arcane workbench.
Cognito = Spiritus + Terra not humanus.
Also I figured it out on my own, its
Humanus = Bestia + Cognito
