Worst comes to worst, once I get a steady income I will pay him a fair wage for porting it to 1.6.X. A mod of this quality is worth the trouble.
That being said, I do plan to create a "reborn" version of a few of the aspects of the mod, though not its entirety, in the form of "Project Starfall." It will provide the Emerald Shards, hearts, and Falling Stars from the original mod, along with their accompanying uses. (Before anyone asks, no, I will not implement anything else. It is already nearly too much to be using those elements). This is largely for the purposes of a Hexxit update I have been working on, and shouldn't be expected for a long time to come.
That being said, I do plan to create a "reborn" version of a few of the aspects of the mod, though not its entirety,
Same here friend, but in my case just the Emerald Shards, they are simply too simple and neat of an idea that needs no major modification, since Emeralds are the closes thing currency Minecraft has, I'm not sure why he does 8 shards make one piece and eight pieces make a full Emerald that never made sense to me, also not using a crafting table to make them was odd, but to each their own I suppose...
Mine way of doing it is 9 Emerald Shards in a Crafting Table makes One Emerald Piece, 9 Emerald Pieces in a Crafting Table make a Full Emerald.
I hope we at least has his blessing for using a few of his concepts in our own works, people on the internet can really get bent out of shape sometimes over trivial things.
Being that it would be a "reborn" mod, no one can really complain, particularly if some aspects are changed.Yours in particular isn't something that a modmaker could infringe upon, since it is so simple a concept, and doesn't even use the base mechanics of the original mod.
As to your question about the multiples of eight used, it was done that way so that they would stack evenly.
Game design ideas are by their nature fair game. The only thing that might prevent implementation of an idea is a patent, and I certainly don't have patents on any of my LegendGear mechanics. If you want to make emerald shards or falling stars or rock candy, I can't stop you.
The graphics, sounds, and code I created for my mod are all covered by copyright, and I do not grant permission for anyone to use them in their own mods.
Don't use "LegendGear" as part of your mod's name; trademark law is tricky, but causing confusion about the provenance of a mod is obviously uncool.
Personally:
Go nuts on the emerald shards and hearts, with the caveat that I don't promise compatibility with your mod's version when I launch the LegendGear 2 project (an increasingly likely possibility, by the way).
I'd be uncomfortable with direct mimicking of my falling stars, since that's the single element of the mod that I put the most artistic investment and love into. Falling stars are a guaranteed component of LegendGear 2 (provided it exists). That said: if you feel you must do it, then I will make an effort for compatibility only if your falling stars and related materials follow the design tenets of mine. (In order of priority: Not farmable, encourages venturing into danger, time-gated per player.)
Everything else is a small part of a huge design space. I stake no claim to quivers, bombs, or bushes-with-stuff-in-them, since there's a million ways to do each of those. You can probably make a better mod if you don't stick to mimicking mine. Do note: much of the impetus for LegendGear was for things that I wanted in my Minecraft games, scratching a personal itch. If you do it better than I did/would, I'm not likely to repeat the work myself. Why would I go to the trouble of coding a hookshot for LG2 if someone has already made the perfect hookshot mod in the meantime?
And yeah, the reason the default emerald ratio is 8 is for stack of shards->1 emerald. I believe it's actually changeable in the config file, though I may have removed that feature for clarity of design. The reason it's not done in a crafting table is so that you don't need to use a table to condense your shards into emeralds when out adventuring, and also to make it way easier to change the exchange rate in the code.
Game design ideas are by their nature fair game. The only thing that might prevent implementation of an idea is a patent, and I certainly don't have patents on any of my LegendGear mechanics. If you want to make emerald shards
The graphics, sounds, and code I created for my mod are all covered by copyright, and I do not grant permission for anyone to use them in their own mods.
Not to be "that guy" and just abruptly blurt this out, I'm pretty sure Copyright Laws don't protect you when you don't own the IP in the literal sense, technically we are all modding Minecraft, we don't own it, Mojang does, so no laws protect the rights of something we created that's part of something we don't own, I know IP laws are complicated at times, but that's pretty clear cut, I mean no offense, just pointing out the obvious.
And I doubt you payed money to have your resources Copyrighted, once again I damn near 99% sure you can't do that, regardless I'm not interested in any of the sounds you use and I'm not one to steal code, as implementing it into my mod will probably be more of a pain in the ass then then just coding it myself.
The graphics on the other hand are only 32x32 in size, so there's only so many ways to make it look like a fragment or chunk of Emerald so not much anyone can do there, I don't think such a small image is worth making a huge fuss over, well for me at least this is the internet so all bets are off...
Though honestly for no other reason then I am a good person I respect your work and the things you've created and will try my best to not step on your creative toes as much as possible, but some things are just silly to go claiming ownership, like those idiots who copyrighted the word Candy, for example.
OK, not to get into too much of a derail here, but since I see so many people confused and mistaken about intellectual property: a crash course in IP, simplifying to keep things brief and borrowing quotes from Wikipedia:
A trademark is "a recognizable sign, design or expression which identifies products or services of a particular source from those of others." "In the United States, neither federal nor state registration is required to obtain rights in a trademark. An unregistered mark may still receive common law trademark rights." Registering a trademark, however, gives one much more legal recourse to enforce it. This coverage applies only to a particular field of business, and sometimes only a particular geographic region. The case you mention was the company King wishing to register a trademark on the word "Candy" within the field of video/computer games. (They have withdrawn that application after the public outcry over it.)
tl;dr: Trademarks protect names, within a given field.
A copyright protects the particular expression of a creative idea (though notably not the idea itself). "In all countries where the Berne Convention standards apply, copyright is automatic, and need not be obtained through official registration with any government office. Once an idea has been reduced to tangible form, for example by securing it in a fixed medium (such as a drawing, sheet music, photograph, a videotape, or a computer file), the copyright holder is entitled to enforce his or her exclusive rights." The code I wrote that implements emerald shards is copyrighted; the idea of emerald shards is not. As with trademarks, registering a copyright gives it a lot more legal teeth.
tl;dr: Copyright protects everything that is created, automatically.
A patent is "a set of exclusive rights granted by a sovereign state to an inventor or assignee for a limited period of time in exchange for detailed public disclosure of an invention. An invention is a solution to a specific technological problem and is a product or a process." Ever wonder why, in the NES and SNES era, Nintendo had the plus-shaped directional pad on their controllers while controllers made for other systems and by third parties had other things? (Circular control pad on the Genesis, "directional buttons" on the PlayStation, etc.) Nintendo held a patent on the plus-shaped input invention. That patent has since expired, and now you can see plus-shaped pads on other controllers made today.
tl;dr: Patents protect inventions and processes for a limited time, and must be registered.
And now back to your regularly scheduled Minecrafting.
Don't worry NMcCoy, I wouldn't dream of copying your work. In fact, I had planned to structure my mod so that, should yours be installed along with it, the falling stars added by my own would be replaced by yours. :3
I am a bit disappointed that you asked that I not use your graphics and sound for the stars falling, but I understand completely. With the sheer amount of work that must have gone into that, I wouldn't want someone to copy it and claim it as their own.
On the subject of how I planned to implement the falling stars, your original idea for their function was what I was going for. Have them timed per-player, and fall at a random location within a certain radius. The only snag I might hit along the way would be the extra NBT tag, but hopefully it wouldn't be too much of an issue. Honestly, the only reason I would even have a Project Starfall if your mod were updated would be to add the "Celestial Armor" that I have had in the works since I started playing Hexxit a while back. I may still make that an addon for your original mod, if I ever get the chance.
Hel-oooooo!
This mod is awesome! it would be cool if you added in something like the Beetle from skyward sword
It could pickup items and bring them back to you and can upgraded to the Hook Beetle which could grab bomb's and drop them. The Beetle would be able to go further then the boomarang (not by to much) and could be controlled the entire time (making it a little more useful) and your screen would change to a third-person view of the beetle while you were controlling it, Probebly would be made with gold and emerald (alot like the boomarang actoully) and something for the wings. and to upgrade it you would add 2 boomarangs next to the beetle in a crafting grid (maybe)
you should also have a block that can't be mined with a pickaxe and can only be blown up by a bomb
I love coming up with Idea's and I hope you will consider my idea
It would be awesome if you could do that

Why does everyone seem to think this is a Zelda mod? The fact that a few of the mod's items happen to be similar to something found in Zelda doesn't mean it is a Zelda mod. In fact, a lot of the items found in this mod that are also in Zelda have a fair bit of folklore behind them that has been around far longer than Nintendo. Just go look for some Aborigines tails of a magical boomerang that always returns to its thrower. You'll be surprised what you find. :3
I do like the idea of having a block that can only be destroyed by bombs, though. Something that could possibly be used to conceal a hidden type of dungeon spawn, like those found in Vanilla, but with a number of pots generated rather than chests. I just wouldn't count on seeing it any time soon.

I think I should delete additional pipes for 1.5.2 because I use 1.6.4
This mod is for 1.5.2, so using it in a later version won't work. Sorry if that ruins any plans of yours, but the modding API will eventually fix that...you know, when Mojang finally gets it working.
Oh come on. I know that. I was just saying adding in the hook beetle would be cool. it wouldn't even need to be the beetle. just something with similer mechanics. Cause it'd be cool to see

Are there any mods that are like this? Because i am playing with my 1.6.4 modpack and i really like this mod. So is there an alternative mod that is like this for 1.6.4?
The closest thing is the Zelda Sword skills mod, which only compares in that Legend Gear added a lot of Zelda-like items.
Mods come and go, and modmakers change interests. I'm quite thrilled to see the progress he's made on this flight simulator game, personally, and am simply glad to have been able to play the mod in 1.5.2. As has been said before, I'll try to make an update to a few of the features, namely Emerald Shards and falling stars.
Perhaps, at some point, I could update the entire mod to 1.6.X and give it to NMcCoy to put in the OP. I won't, however, distribute a 1.6.X update of the mod on my own terms, however. I will say that here and now, to prevent any confusion. I'm not the creator of the mod, and certainly wouldn't want someone to do that to my work in a similar situation. Only with NMcCoys precise consent would I make a separate download of an update.
He won't. Sorry
As to your question about the multiples of eight used, it was done that way so that they would stack evenly.
Yeah, that explains a lot, from playing Minecraft for so long you'd think I'd remember that everything stacks to 64 and 8 is divisible by 64... XD
Well good luck with your own mod, perhaps we could work together and help each other out?
And yeah, the reason the default emerald ratio is 8 is for stack of shards->1 emerald. I believe it's actually changeable in the config file, though I may have removed that feature for clarity of design. The reason it's not done in a crafting table is so that you don't need to use a table to condense your shards into emeralds when out adventuring, and also to make it way easier to change the exchange rate in the code.
NMcCoy is officially incredibly super amazingly awesome.

Really? You need the right version of forge first of all; plus, that is a ton of mods! There is most likely conflicting item id's in there somewhere.
This mod is for 1.5.2, so using it in a later version won't work. Sorry if that ruins any plans of yours, but the modding API will eventually fix that...you know, when Mojang finally gets it working.
Oh come on. I know that. I was just saying adding in the hook beetle would be cool. it wouldn't even need to be the beetle. just something with similer mechanics. Cause it'd be cool to see

The closest thing is the Zelda Sword skills mod, which only compares in that Legend Gear added a lot of Zelda-like items.
