I never really got the complaint that limbo is too dark. It seems about perfect to me: Kind of hazy and gloomy and baron. Like ... oh, I don't know ... kind of like ... limbo.
The first time I found myself in limbo, I was struggling to make out the difference between the "sky" and ground as I poked my way around looking for a way back home, and I loved every minute of it because it was exactly what it was cracked up to be: Limbo. If my vote is worth anything I will cast it for keeping it the way it is: Dark and gloomy with very little if any distinguishing landmarks to help you figure out where you are, or where you have been.
My problem is that I cannot tell the difference between ground and ground :-).
Keep in mind: I play with optifine, with fog disabled. Minecraft fog is crazy overpowered strong. Seriously, you are unable to see farther than about 1/12th of a mile because of extremely dense fog that starts to cloud your vision at about 120 feet?
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?

Oh, so that's why some people can see, It's because of Optifine isn't it?
I normaly play with just a few core mods such as TMI for recepies, but I've heard lots of others use it.
Could the people who state their oppinion on the darkness of Limbo also include if they use Optifine please?
Though I find it funny/cool that i can see a GIANT RED EYE in the sky, but not five blocks in front of me.
PS: Would it be possible/feasible to make a map of the rift system?
In a pocket it would show the pocket you are in and those linked directly to it, but it only shows the ones you already explored, but would probably not work deeper than 5 levels/pockets down, as you said they're unstable (also if the door leads to the overworld it would show a map of the chunk the door resides in).
In the overworld the map would just display as far as you can see, but show nearby doors.
In the Limbo the map would instead just display a red eye looking at you.
It could probably be only found rarely deep down in the dimensional dungeons.
I was thinking of something like this, but color coded for depth:
Really sorry I have no idea how to make pics smaller
Also would it be possible for a map to detect if there is a door on the other side of the rift?
Sorry, I know you're all really busy but I just wanted to share some ideas just in case you like them.
If it would be too much work or just don't like them feel free to ignore me...
PPS: About the diferent gravity in dimensions, I didn't know it was so hard, I saw some guy make a block that changed the gravity depending on the side you approached it from (and someone made a Super mario galaxy map with it) and it looked simple, my bad.
PPPS: I only play on single player , so I'll just dump myself into the Limbo for you guys ok?
I love everything the mod does, except for the fact that if you go into a pocket dimension, it will F CK UP YOUR WORLD AND REGENERATE CHUNKS AND DESTROY YOUR HOUSE AND YOUR DIAMONDS AND YOUR SHELL ARMOR. FIX THIS BUG, NOTCHD MMIT!!!

You must be doing something wrong then, cause that's never happened to me with this mod. You might want to show some proof before you just accuse this mod of something it's likely not doing by itself. A good start would be to list all mods you are currently using.

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.

1. It was probbably caused by some other mod or a confliction between this and another mod, because this mod alone was never reported to cause something at this scale, soory for you losses though
2. Why are you angry at notch? He isn't even working on minecraft anymore and this mod was made by Sensei Kivi and stevenrs11.
I don't use optifine and I never had a problem with the brightness of limbo - unless the curtains were open and sunlight was directly entering the room.
@JKPwnage: You need to be a bit more clear on what happened? Your home in the overworld was destroyed? Or had you built in a dimension offered by another mod? I had a problem with DimDoors overwriting some construction I had done in 'Atum' but that was becausof an out-of-order install
I would like to add that it seems that this mod is not very friendly for servers? A server owner complained that it created thousands of dimensional files. They disabled it.

He may be having the problem where he broke the door by accident (or something of that matter happened), because that causes a rift (i haven't used this mod in a long time, so i don't know the name of it) that can take blocks off your house if the door is in your house. Here's picture to explain it:

I like the map Idea, and can see it being very useful, but as a non-modder I can't exactly see how it would be done. I know that mods do have dynamic maps (Twilight forest cave/ores magic map) but these dungeons are very complex places that are very different to natural generation. I'd stick to making the maps manually on paint though, mostly because (as far as I'm aware) these dungeons aren't too much of a spiderweb.
Eh... Gravity changing in dimensions... not sure if I like that, but then I've been to the moon on Galacticraft and they had low gravity...
If it was worked into dungeons properly, it could create the opportunity for some nasty traps (Insert evil Vechs laugh here) but I just don't know... The current Dungeons are scary enough with regular gravity.

A possible bug with limbo generating a limbo biome in the overworld, i'm pretty sure it's not suppose too but it has on my FTB unleashed world. Only extra mods installed are EnderIO, starting inventory and legendary gear!
Probably a simple Biome ID conflict with one of the biome-adding mods of FTB. Check your config files. I know for a fact that it conflicts with a biome in Biomes O' Plenty, not sure if your pack contains that, but it could be the problem.

(I have put this on a previous page as well, too)
He said regenerating chunks so it's unlikely he was talking about rifts. I've encountered chunk regeneration (caused by another mod) before and it's very diffrent from the destruction of rifts. It sucks too, I built a tower like house so it ate about 1/2 of my home, and more importantly: all of my chests.

Oh yes. I DO remember that kind of chunk regeneration. Typically i happens when the client crashes, corrupting the save files in some way. Sometimes - and ive had it take out a room of chests - it regenerates the chunks that wern't saved as a result of the crash.
This is why I ALWAYS run a standalone server - even at home for myself. 99% of MC crashes are client sided (the one exception so far being the dim doors crash I linked a few pages back and someone provided a .class patch for) and corrupting your save game because of a completely avoidable client side crash seems silly.
Never ever ever ever play a long term build using "Singleplayer". You will - with a mod pack - stuff it up. A discreet standalone server keeps you safe. (I was hoping Mojangs new laucher would actually spin up separate client and server processes to provide the same level of protection by default in 1.6.4. no such luck).

I also found that black rifts can spawn randomly in new chunks too, I've seen a few here and there when loading new chunks. The first one i saw was one right next to a dimensional dungeon door, something like where a wooden dimensioal door would be in a rift dungeon, or it could have been other mods, i really don't know. He also mentioned Shell Armor....

Wasn't I the one to teach you on that?
Yes the dungeons don't work like terrain generation, instead it picks one design at random from all the templates, but this is why it would be easier, it would only require to show the layout of the dungeon you are in and those connected to it, no need for keeping thack of unoppened doors because those dungeons haven't generated yet.

Since then I've started to make backups of my important worlds nearly every other day. That way if such a thing dose happen again I'll only lose a day or two of playing, rather then about a month's worth.

I don't think this mod by itself is capable of causing a chunk reset. What else are you playing with, when did it happen, and is it repeatable?
I would like to add that it seems that this mod is not very friendly for servers? A server owner complained that it created thousands of dimensional files. They disabled it.
Yes, this mod does make lots of dimensions. That, by itself, is not really a problem though. Currently, there are lots of options in the config to make it more server friendly, and in the upcoming update, there will be even more. Specifically, there will be a command that resets and deletes off disk all the dungeons.
Also, the new version will handle registering dimensions a bit differently, and should result in WAY less dims getting registered.
