Maybe add Xtralight? Where we can place a light level to keep mobs from spawning without using blocks?
there is an item inside this mod called glow paint that do exactly that, also if you want a little lower level of light there is an item called dull glow paint
DIYStone and DIYMetal recipes use the Dye + Cobblestone combo. Yea really, we need an ore to come up with those metal surfaces, or for now, that I have MightyPork's custom recipes, time to use Metallurgy2's MetalBricks in place of DIYMetal's Dye + Cobble recipe.
I'm using your awesome mod right now for my custom map and your mod serves as a great improvement to it, but anyway, I wanted to ask if you maybe you could make XtraChests. I'm really in the need of editable blocks with storage, so maybe it's possible?
This would be great if possible!
Greetings,
zicear
They are coming soon!
In Fact, I have left the very first iteration of a DIYChest in this release.
I have only just got them working (kind of). Many thanks to microjunk, his new tutorial helped to solve my GUI issue.
As it is, the new chest can be found in the vanilla decorations tab. It currently shows the same texture as the regular chest (when in the inventory) but has a custom texture when placed. The DIYChest will form into a double chest, but does not update to a larger inventory.
When in the form of a double chest, the lid will only open from one half of the chest (and that half depends on the direction placed)
So yeah! There is still a bit of work to do and some changes will be made, but as I needed to do a bug fix release and the code was there I figured that I would leave it in.
Idea (relating to redstone block)
Can you make your redstone block have the same functions and have the same id (152) as the minecraft redstone block so that when 1.5 comes around they will all be converted to the new blocks and will work perfectly.
I don't think that would work, but as my redstone block can be toggled on/off (unlike the vanilla block) I will change my recipe to include a lever in the middle.
You have those Xtra Log Blocks that light up when you place them. Would it be possible to add 3 or 4 blank texture blocks that have the same placing mechanics as the log blocks. so I can place the block with the face either facing sideways or up and down. just like pistons and logs.
They would be super useful. I know I could use those log blocks you have and just retexture them, but they light up, and I already use them for log blocks, lol.
That and please please please return the glowstone ore.
Other than that, Still my favorite mod out there. Keep it up.
Thank you for reading this, and for your hard work.
The glow ore was never very popular, due to the world gen aspect. I did compromise by adding a config and then the ability to disable, but I have decided to do away with world gen altogether (not really in keeping with the mod).
I will add an alternate way to harvest glow dust without venturing to the Nether though.
On the bright side, I have added 8 (non glowing) log blocks for you. I have also included leaves for each of them (in case people actually want to use them for trees)
All of the log blocks can also be broken down into planks, sticks and chest's
DIYStone and DIYMetal recipes use the Dye + Cobblestone combo. Yea really, we need an ore to come up with those metal surfaces, or for now, that I have MightyPork's custom recipes, time to use Metallurgy2's MetalBricks in place of DIYMetal's Dye + Cobble recipe.
Fixed!
Sorry about that. I had the cobblestone and the iron ingots sharing the same letter in the recipe.
so that means that the gold ladder and the iron one are gone? if so then why they are still in the texture sheet?
Looking back at my post, I can see how you would think that.
to answer your question..
No they were just in transition. They still live in the Xtras mod and have been renamed as Iron Ladder & Gold Ladder (seemed more appropriate) They are included in the latest update
There will be two alternate vines in there as well (not added yet, due to working on storage) these vines, unlike the DIYVines will colorize by biome.
The new ladders (crafted with sticks & dye) are now the DIY numbered ladders.
I'm using this mod for a project that will allow players to get hold of certain blocks. I read earlier on in the thread that you're looking into a way to rename the blocks. Is there any estimation on when that will be available? We can use the anvil system for now, although in the future we'll need to come up with something more permanent.
No time frame I'm sorry. As soon as I find some information on how to achieve it (always searching, never finding)
Cool more logs mor leavs *_* thank you so mutch^^
Next turn... Saplings? :> Too feed this with Bonemeal to have a DivTree with the new logs and leavs? or it this too much?
That was my original intention, but my old bonemeal code wasn't working. I don't want them to spawn naturally, going back to my no word gen point, but it would be nice to have the option of an instant tree.
Once I get done with the coding of the storage blocks, I will look at the bonemeal code.
Finished changing the code of the chest blocks to the requested specs.
Now known as storage blocks.
The storage blocks are the same size as a regular block and have no lid opening animation.
They can be placed within a wall (not restricted by a block above like a chest)
Storage blocks have the same multi texture layout as the multiblocks i.e, top, bottom, side and face.
There are two at the moment, but I will add a few more.
I have also included one in the Admin pack "Locked Safe". The locked safe can only be accessed by holding the blue key.
There will be a locked safe for each of the keys.
Iron Ladder and Gold Ladder are are usable again and are named respectively. (vine 01 & vine 02, still to be added)
Requires Forge: use the latest recommended version or above
(Built with "minecraftforge-universal-1.4.7-6.6.1.524").
Excellent, my adventure maps could use those storage blocks! Hmmm... How about something similar to the Ender Portal pedestals, in which we have to place an Eye-tem on a DIYPortalLock, then some redstone wiring below (or could be optimized in 1.5 with the alleged BUD Block).
Looking back at my post, I can see how you would think that.

Wow, thanks alot the storage blocks sounds awesome.
You still have planned add xtrachest or they will be replaced for the storage blocks?, just wondering not that i need them.at the moment
BTW I was checking some of the blocks in the mod and i came to the card reader, what is the use for these? i thought it was to open the key doors as well (because there are the same number of card readers and key doors), but they just cant do that, so are they only to open regular doors?
Another thing, how the textures for the logs are supposed to work? i mean there are 3 textures for each one, i thought it was top, sides and bottom, but when i tested ,the third texture just show up when you place the log in only one especific position (i really dont know how to explain which one XD).
And finally, when you place a glow grass block, all the block comes out with the green color of the biome instead of just the grass (not the dirt part of the block) is this supposed to be like that?
As wideload said, the idea is for you to create your own textures.
You can use PhotoShop if you have it, or use GIMP which is free, and is an excellent pixel-based editor, and easy to use.
I just add new textures when I need them. eg I have a plaster wall block which I use for my larger rooms, then I have a wall-panel block which is essentially a pale green with a cream molding, a la Georgian interior. When I need a molded-ceiling block, I'll make that then.
I doubt I will ever have a texture for every block. I don't need them. I like to know there is always space for more creativity.
I am pretty sure my Georgian plasterwork would not be of much use to anyone else. It matches my style of architecture, my colour scheme and my purpose. Your world might have items I don't have, mods I don't have, or you might be using an item in a different way, so my texture pack wouldn't suit you.
It sounds like you want a texture pack. There's loads out there - to get your style. With DIY eXtras, don't worry about every block and every texture. These are DIY extra blocks for when your favourite texture-pack needs a bit more. eg, you've used all 4 wood texture blocks, but now you want some shipping crates with "Peru" or "India" stenciled across the side - well now you can. You can create the crates that suit your texture pack's style. THAT is what DIY blocks are for. EXtras. Extras that fit in with your existing world.
That said, I think the best way to have a texture library would be, as an example, to have a screen-capture of a dining room, then include all the textures required for that room. So I might include the plasterwork blocks, the carpet, the plush fabric for the chairs, the table X-lamps, the window glass, the ceiling panels, the hanging lamps, the multi-blocks for the table settings, the table decorations, the side-board, etc, and I might need to include instructions how to construct the table or chandelier, or something.
I would however, hope that someone doesn't replicate exactly what I built. Not cos it's my build, but because I'd rather people were creative.
If you can't make your own textures for a single block, then this mod is probably not for you.

Some of the textures used here are made by me, but not the mud bricks, for it's from Karuberu's mud mod (with permission to use his images)
What I'm trying to build here is a small secluded convent or monastery for my jRPG-FPS modded adventure pack.
<snip>
That's gorgeous.... I can imagine traipsing through the snow, chilled to the bone, night is coming, I see a glow of coloured light, and I follow it to find a welcoming little monastery, inhabited by friendly charitable Monks who feed me hot soup, let me warm up by the fire, and give me a comfortable bed to sleep in.
...unless of course, these are nasty zombie Monks who want to eat my brain.

The monastery turned out to be hiding something below their abode.
(No really, should I make a Content Pack thread, or a Modded Mapping thread, or have them both?)
XBEE: Hmmm... The pavers should also have their stone, wood, metal, and fleshy variants when stepped on. There might be people like me who would like to make catwalks out of pavers.
I am in the process of installing redpower. So far it seem every fracking id is a conflict with XtraBlocks. [sad face] So I am slowly going through the config files and changing the ids in Xtrablocks. ...I'd like to go on record saying XtraBlocks config files are a delight to use. Well thought out, and simple to edit. I give you an "outstanding". On the other hand, Redpower does not seem to provide config files at all (how rude!)
Has anyone else experienced this with redpower?

I have three suggestions/requests for improving this mod. Firstly, add additional wool slots. Second add a few alternative cauldrons, so that people can create barrels and the like. Finally, add extra container slots that are not chests, so people can make crates, boxes, dressers, etc.

You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.
Many thanks for the storage blocks, it's exactly what I was after. So much for not adding new content to this version!!
The extra ladders will come in most useful as well.
Just for curiousity, when the modular version is ready for the OP will you be keeping it a version 3.9.x or are you moving into version 4.x.x. It seems to be me like it's a big enough change to warrant a main number change. Just curious.
I have an idea about this (but don't get your hopes up). But this isn't the place to mention it so I'll send you a PM. Hopefully it may at least give you a place to start working out how to do it. It would be an awesome feature for customization.
I know, right! I'm working on more too! (when inspiration calls...)
Yep, it will definitely be v4.0.
Thanks for that info. I had a look into it and there is certainly a chance that something like that would work.
Wow, thanks alot the storage blocks sounds awesome.

No, I only plan to add the storage blocks. The chest in v1.7 was just the early stage of a storage block. I had to start out with a chest and then strip away and add my own code. There may be different shaped storage blocks though.
The card readers can be used for anything redstone. They don't work with the key doors, as the key doors can't be activated by power.
They are a good substitute for levers, especially when used with an iron type door in an adventure map. Find the card, open the door.
I mostly use them to activate piston doors.
The Glow grass has always behaved like that. For some reason, when the code for colorization is applied with the code for light value the dirt also becomes colorized. I could never find a solution. However, if you use glow paint on a grass block you will get glowing grass with regular looking dirt sides.
I might work on one, since I've been posting screenies of my builds lately. It'll be somewhere in lines of "Paintedly Vanilla jRPG" package.
EDIT:
Why do the AdminBlocks, and the DIYStorage config isn't named in the same fashion as the rest of your XBEE configs?
The difference in the config names for those two files, is due to the implementation of the storage blocks. The reason being that each mod has to have a "mod id" and an "instance". The name used in the mod id is also assigned to the config.
In order to assign a GUI to the storage block, you need to reference the "instance". In my case the instance is the mod name,
ie DIYStorage. The problem with this (I found out after hours of searching) is that, when using gui's/tile entities and such, the mod id and instance must be the same in order for the game to recognize that it is a network mod.
It was just quicker to change the one reference of the mod id, whilst developing. All of the config files will be back to normal in the next release.
I am in the process of installing redpower. So far it seem every fracking id is a conflict with XtraBlocks. Done!
Oh wow. I can't believe how "round in circles" I went. Of course when changing an id I didn't know what ids were available, so I was compounding the issue whenever I used an occupied id. (occupied by XtraBlocks, that is)
