Nice! Now make Glowstones work as redstone torched. They would power glowstone dust. Also you could make Glowstone Repeaters!
Glowstone currently doesn't have any current at all, but I might think about it... I'm not sure I should make glowstone have any kind of current, really.
This is a great mod. My bluestone idea is a good one (not to brag) and i think it should be in this glowstone dust mod.
There is already a bluestone mod, and I do not wish to... 'steal' it. Considering it might make more use for lapis though... I'll take it into consideration.
I don't see why it should interact with redstone. For me, it's a powder obtained from glowstone, so it just... glows ?
I find the light level too powerful for a single bit of powder, though.
And, laying down gunpowder would be an awesome and simple idea ! Just make it so it quickly transforms into a fire block when there's fire next to it. Not even is it needed to detonate TNT, since it is detonated by fire too
Level 10 is actually the amount you get by stepping on a redstone ore. I agree about the redstone interaction part though. The gunpowder idea is very doable... You might find a new update soon if I decide to include it!
linux install:(& windows for that matter)
0. install modloader properly by opening .minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar and overwriting old class files with the modloader ones.
1. unzip the packed gswire1.2.5.zip download
2. enter the subfolder where the actual mod files are
3. recompress the files into a .zip file; and don't have them be in a subfolder(have them be in zip-root)
4. put the new better packed zip file directly into your .minecraft/mods/ folder.
5. run the game
most mods that only add 1 block or 1 item and are made for modloader can be just put in the mods folder while zipped,
if the mod in question doesn't edit any base classes or add any sounds this method almost always works.
(note that many mods have subfolder along with the mod files that add custom textures & such keep these in subfolders packed with the mod files in the zip-root.)
grygr you should have just put the readme file in a zip-root dir with all the mod files then people could open it to read the readme or just put it into mods folder and the game will ignore the readme file. so there is no editing of minecraft.jar at all besides installing modloader. but it is your mod so do as you please.

again though, nice mod
Thanks for that! I actually didn't know you could do that.
For that, I give you...
UPDATE - BUILD 106
NOW WITH SMP SUPPORT!!!
(requires ModLoaderMP)
And yes, it does use your installation method. Thank you!
There are many more mods that use forge then mods that use modloaderMP, and the mods that use forge are better, so you should use forge instead.
True, and it would be better to install only one dependency instead of two (ModLoader + ModloaderMP), so I might move to Forge. Or I might have two releases each version, so that no one needs to depend on only Forge or MLMP. It really depends on how fast Risugami, SDK/Flan and whoever-makes-forge to update, since dependencies can be annoying if they don't update for a long time.
Also, build 105 (which doesn't use anything except ModLoader) doesn't even work with FML, so I might have to research how to program a mod with Forge. I'll start trying to use Forge now (since I have nothing to do other than wait for the APIs to update)
Will a Forge client work with a ModLoaderMP server (or vice-versa)? Can they communicate properly or will the client get kicked for not having the 'proper' version? (pretty sure they won't like each other, but it's worth asking)
All these different APIs makes me wish the official API was out... Patience is virtue I suppose...
OT: Do you know how to make those links that skip to a section in the forums (not a post)? I know the HTML way, but I'm not sure it applies to the forums.
I guess I'm not seeing the point here. When I saw the title and then first clicked my way into this thread, I was under the impression that this was a alternative form of redstone that utilized glowdust. the benefit is that you could lay two signals next to each other without mixing them, and I was excited by this simple change because I'm not much of a fans of these bigger, badder mods.
As I continued reading and eventually tried the mod for myself, I saw that it has no functional use whatsoever. You titling it 'Glowstone Wire' simply gives off the wrong first impression.
been waiting SO long for this. not everything i wanted it be though sorry. (might make a similar mod just for myself when i can mod, and it would be similar to this). thanks a lot

I am sorry for the misunderstanding. I have re-read replies to this thread and realized that some others most likely misunderstood the use, too. Unfortunately, I am at a loss for names. Glowstone Lines? Glowlines? Aesthetic Glowstone Wire?
My logic for Glowstone Wire is that it has photons which causes it to light up. Redstone would therefore hold electrons. While electrons can excite photons, it does not make sense for photons to be able to affect electrons (ie. Pistons, Doors, TNT). That is most likely the reason why big mods (such as Redpower) do not make use of currently existing dust - electrons do not travel in sugar, gunpowder, or glowstone dust.

What was the feature you wanted? If it made sense (and was game-mechanic balanced) I could add it into the mod.
---
Also, I just noticed my 1.3.1 download beat all of my download records...
I think it's a bit off that you would extend sub-atomic physics to the Minecraft world like that, but then forgo the simple fact that redstone itself must have some other property as it could not hold a charge as it does legitimately. Also, where do the photons in the glowdust come from anyways?
But really, I'm not here to discuss that. I just wanted to note that there's a teeny bit of first-glance confusion over what exactly your mod does.

Um, heheh, that part was actually a side note about what I think redstone interacts as. It doesn't have to be photons/electrons, but making up names would make it even more confusing.
Minecraft physics is confusing enough as it is.
Also, technically the not-yet-existing orangestone would be able to do what you wanted - a separate redstone line. I just got lazy and forgot to implement it. Will try to do so now.

*blinks* Oh?
Suddenly my interest is piqued again. I'll keep my eye on the mod. Do you possibly have anything in mind with lapiz, maybe? You could have a purple dust with special properties of some sort.
What was the feature you wanted? If it made sense (and was game-mechanic balanced) I could add it into the mod.
okay, all out, heres what i would have done:
Works like redstone, but doesn't connect up (but still connects to pistons, tnt, pressure plates, etc. The logic behind this is that it still makes redstone current flow through, but doesn't connect to redstone-dust-block-thing.).
Either infinitely carries out redstone or up to like 40 blocks or something instead for 15.
glows half the amount (?) that glowstone does, but only when powered.
basically most other things you mentioned.
I want glowstone EVERYTHING! Repeaters, torches (Can be placed upside down), glowstone TNT, glowstone lamps, glowstone levers, glowstone tripwire, glowstone buttons, and finally GLOWSTONE PRESSURE PLATES! I do not know why i did that in all caps...

Do you think you could make it so we can place it on wall's?
I do also have an idea for you though, maybe if you connect glowstone to a redstone lamp it turns off until the redstone lamp is powered or something along those line's, I'm too tired to go too in depth right now.
Great mod by the way! ;D
Orangestone Dust should:
Connect between Glowstone Dust and Redstone Dust
Light up at light level 10 when powered
Do all things Glowstone Dust and Redstone Dust do

It's 1.2.5, and I'm a bit lazy to re-write it for 1.2.3. You can make banners and spotlights if you want.
1.2.5!

No problem! Though I want to ask if you like all the changes being considered...
I just did. Sorry it took so long, I was researching how to do it without editing any base classes. Thank you for the offer though!
