I always wanted a "more materials(not more ores)" and a "really f*cking hard (in a good way)" mod.
This mod does both. Bookmarked, and all my previous worlds have been trashed.
Glad I tried it.
Alright, just tested something out and I'm a bit perplexed. In order to work unshaped bronze you need a bronze anvil. To get a bronze anvil you need to fuse two bronze bars.....Am I missing something?

I think copper can work bronze, but i still haven't found tin yet.

I tried with a copper hammer on a stone anvil and no luck. Tried a tin hammer on a bronze anvil and it worked. Wait...ok I need to make a copper anvil. Huh, ok no I can't figure out how to make a double bar.
I just wanted to announce that we have a New Website and Wiki setup. Hopefully those of you struggling to learn the TerraFirmaCraft way of doing things will be able to learn a bit easier over there.

Welding is tricky at first. The key is to get both bars very, very hot...as in, close to melting hot. It's easiest to do it with metal right out of the bloomery or the metallurgy table...soon as an unshaped bar solidifies, slap it on the anvil, shape it to the finished bar, repeat with the second, and weld them immediately. Otherwise, try heating them in a forge until they reach their "melting" color, which you will learn with experience for each bar, and try every 10-15 seconds of heating to weld them. If you're paying attention at all, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting the bars in that sweet spot, especially for the higher tier metals.
why doesn't the new wiki have a suggestions page? there were some good ideas on there and not just the ones i posted. XD
but i just thought up more things to add and change some slight thing, like a spit that you can put over a fire to cook multiple things, and a "stove" that you can cook multiple things on, faster cooking up to 2 things per slot and allows for more advanced cooking like seasoned steak that adds 1 extra half hunger for a seasoning, max of 2 or 3, good combo of seasoning adds additional hunger, there are 10 hunger icons but 20 hunger points, steak fills 5 hunger points and using the advanced cooking system allows for a max of8 or 9, maybe 10 if prepared correctly by the player, much more, just saying if you plan to do a complete overhaul that adds more and more realism, then why not do mot and more intricate things, cause lets face it, life is complicated and you can do everything a hundred diffrent ways, we understand that adding new content means you ned more time, ALOT of time, so we won't rush you but once you get the basic system finished, i do ask that you work on adding more and more advanced teirs to everything, from farming to culinary skills, even masonary, which should be a skill in itsself as mason work is a highly demanding profession, it should not be super easy to craft stairs and half slabs, decrotive blocks should also be implemented, and maybe stsues, that when crafted together with a metal cage and some gems allows you to create a mob spawner maybey? just a thought for later. also the more difficult you make everything the more it will make it so everyone has to divide up into jobs on a server, so some people who are realy good at and love to farm become farmers, people good at finding ores become miners, and blacksmiths and masonworkers, ext...
leave metalurgy exactly the way it is, you absolutely nailed it, but remeber to add armours

This is one of the most impressive mods I've ever played. I rarely play with mods, but this one was a real eye-opener. After watching a video of the mod in action (Thank you Direwolf20) I was compelled to try it out, and I'm so very glad I did! Expectedly though, it did leave me with more than a few questions which I can't seem to find solutions for yet.
1) Is it yet possible to smelt sand into glass? If not, is there another method for creating it?
2) Any tips for finding those first metals? I've come across a few metallic ores, but so far nothing which can be smelted in a fire pit. Of course, I need a chisel to make a bloomery, so I'm unable to smelt using other means yet.
3) Are there any plans to put the countless minerals to use? TFCraft has many different minerals with no (apparent) purpose yet. I have a chest practically full of kaolinite.
4) Many blocks seem to share the same texture currently (Marble and chalk, for example). Is this a fault of my own installation, or is this yet to be updated?
This is a truly awesome conversion of the Minecraft I know and love, and I thoroughly enjoy the new mechanics you've added to the game. Consider me a fan of your work, I'm very interested to see where this mod will go.
no you can not make glass yet but he is going to implement it soon, i think,
try finding sphlerite, not sure the exact spelling, it is the most common ore and can be smelted in a fire pit, it becomes zinc, a bellow helps speed up the heating process.
he is going to make a use for eveything in game eventualy, but he is as of this moment working on adding in the systems and working out the major bugs in these system, then he will go back through and finish each system then he might decide to go through and add even realism to the game. yada yada
marble seems to be buggy, it and other blocks have had major tecture buggs for the past 2 updates, the most notable of ehich are the invisible textures and the altered inventory textures, he is trying to fix them and he might have already, maybe they only look similar? there are multiple textures so maybe they just look so similar that you can't outright see that they are slightly diffrent to eachother,
where can i download forge and how do i install it so i can get started on this aw3s0m3 mod?
I usually use the "Jenkins Build System" thing on the site where you download, then use the left hand column and pick the version of Forge TFC currently relies on.
Also, Forge has changed websites to something a bit easier to access (before, it relied on Wordpress login. ), so you might want to find it in the "Releases" section in the new Forge website..
BIG F***ING MAJOR BUG:
if you drop a shaped tin ingot while it's hot you will infinitely loot it, also they're fake drops so don't get too excited if attempted to be used they disappear... so it only stuff your inventory... and yes it's hotfix 2 I'm using
edit: also destroying a farmland still makes drop nothing
also guess the prospecting pick needs a little re-coding cause I was cheaty messing around to see how it works and discovered it doesn't quite for nothing...
this happens A LOT i prospected where it points... also prospected around the vein before (you can still see the line vanishing)
this is my x-ray each orange sigh is an ore block (can't tell witch) also still the propick tells there's nothing around...
also it seems to have some weird priority system in telling witch ore is around cause the one shown on the surface is Bismuthinite not Native Silver
if this is a bug guess it needs to be corrected is already quite hard to find valuable ores in this mod without a prospecting pick that does as he wants... if it's wanted than... WHY Bioxx WHYYYYYYYYYYY!?!?!?!?!?
Great mod, I'm looking forward what it will be when the mod is finished;)
I do have a question, I've played for more then 5 hours and I haven't found any tin ore. I searched various biomes with gravite as rock layer and I have so far only found copper, iron and gold (hotfix 2). Is casserite really rare or is there a bug? I searched for casserite in creative mode by blowing up gravite rock layers and still found nothing:-(
I've been playing this mod for over 10+ hours in many different worlds. Pre-hotfix2, post-hotfix2... it makes no matter. I have only run across one metal that's smelt able in a firepit and that was bismuth in a pre-hotfix2 world (which of course I deleted when the new fix came out *facepalm*). I've been digging in granite exclusively. Into mountains (which is silly because I've found absolutely nothing in them...ever. I think elevation is still tied to ore creation), on rolling plans, wherever; it makes no difference. I have yet to see any trace of cassiterite. I've ran across traces of zinc and copper a few times with the prospectors pickaxe, but never could find the actual ore. I've had multiple double chests filled with cobblestone, and have gone though countless stone pickaxes.
I guess what I'm trying to say is keep digging, but find something else that makes you happy in the game. I, for one, like to farm... and push sheep off the many cliffs around my dwelling. I'm sure I'll find something at some point, but I've just put the metallurgy on the back burner for the time being. He said it was going to be tough, and he didn't exaggerate.
Edit- Just visited the new wiki. My goodness someone's been busy; it looks great!

Pleeeease, tell me or link me to your xray. I've been looking for one that works with this mod for a while now.

1. Yes. Use sand in a forge.
2. Learn where the ores usually spawn. Many useful ores spawn in granite. Also learn the trick to using the prospector's pick. There's a few guides that have been posted in this thread and I think on the wiki as well.
3. More than likely, yes. We might see some new features in the beta v2 that will make use of some of them.
4. They're not repeated, they're just very similar. Marble has a slight pinkish color to it while chalk doesn't have any distinct color to it.
also guess the prospecting pick needs a little re-coding cause I was cheaty messing around to see how it works and discovered it doesn't quite for nothing...

It's not 100% accurate all of the time. It also has a hard time with multiple ores and minerals in the same area (hence why it detected silver while you can only see bismuthinite).
Pleeeease, tell me or link me to your xray. I've been looking for one that works with this mod for a while now.
I'm quite curious about this as well. I want to add a bit of information to the wiki, including pictures of ores in their natural state. This would help out quite a bit.
Never mind. I think I figured it out! Zombe mod and added the custom IDs to the ores list?
There is NO priority system to the Prospector's Pick. It compiles a list of all the ores it has found in the scan area and then chooses randomly from that list which one you've found on that block. It will NEVER give you any more direction than that. The ProPick works as intended. It is only designed to be used to alert you to the presence of something, not to help direct you to the location. This is very similar to how it works IRL.
I will never make mining or finding ores easier. It is supposed to be a struggle. Sometimes it's more of a struggle than others. The ore IS out there, you need to just keep trying.
This mod does both. Bookmarked, and all my previous worlds have been trashed.

Ah, i meant to say copper anvil, not copper hammer. Congrats on solving your problem
