Just thought I'd share this little snippet of code for an item that regenerates its durability slowly and has a slim chance to damage the player every so often. This is using my work in progress AuxSimAPI.
rand is a class member declared prior with Random rand = new Random(); of course.
public void onUpdate( ItemStack itemstack, World world, Entity entity, int i, boolean flag ) {
EntityPlayer player = ModLoader.getMinecraftInstance().thePlayer;
timer( itemstack, "damageTimer", 60 );
regenTimer( itemstack, 20, 1, (EntityLiving)player );
if( isTimerDepleted( itemstack, "damageTimer" ) ) {
if( rand.nextInt( 25 ) == 3 )
player.attackEntityFrom( DamageSource.magic, 1 );
}
}
Note that I honestly have no clue what the hell "Entity entity" is in onUpdate and this uses ModLoader (though the API code itself doesn't rely on it). But, still. Slowly but surely, my API is simplifying and beautifying things
Once I get a better understanding of some things, I might try to simplify regenTimer() to not need that typecasted parameter.

I have no idea about coding but you use a scripting language?(JavaScript )
And the next update,do you have to rewrite your mod due to Mojang's way of merging SMP and SSP?
Extra question,how many lines of code are in your mod?Let me guess...a little OVER 9000!
Java, which is a programming language. Completely different from JavaScript (which, of course, is a scripting language).
I have no clue what I'll have to do when Minecraft 1.3 comes out. I doubt I'd have to do much, though.
I couldn't hazard a guess. With the way I stupidly space things and my tendency to put open and close brackets on their own lines..... probably over 9000, hahah.

To be honest, the only bit that i "hate" about the Sword+ mod is the religious stuff, i know it's just prayer, but i still dislike that part.. (I know that hate is a powerful word, but i am not a fan of religious content, unless RPG-ish and i'm meant to do some role-play..)

Nonetheless i like this mod..
Don't consider it a prayer in the religious sense, then. Consider it a prayer in the legal sense (prayer for relief) and that you're asking the gem to power up a little quicker so you can upgrade your swords faster and quickly abandon your suffering that is a life without awesome swords.

No probz, but i still (I don't remember mentioning it) think that you should consider rethinking the recipes..
For example in the EE mod (Equivalent Exchange) the modder calculated the "****" outta of every item and it's value in numbers, so there wont be imbalance.. (Even tho you come across overpowered items, but they're still efficient and worth the huge value of EMC)
It's not that i'm comparing your good mod with one of the "goddess mods" but i think you should view the EMC of every item and consider changing the recipes a bit, because i find that most of your swords are completely inefficient..
I know it'll take hours of calculating but believe me, the Technic community will give a lot of love to your mod if it was efficient and balanced enough.. (Especially when Balkon's mod was dropped from the Tekkit pack, you have an opportunity, don't let it go waste..)
Just go to the EE wiki and take a look at the values..
P.S. The colors were added to make such a long reply "readable"
EDIT:I like what you did to prevent the overpowered stats, but nerf the recipes, please!

To be blunt, I don't give a damn about "efficiency".

To be realistic, it's more about what community gives, rather than you! :/ (Let's stop this childish conversation, shall we?)
But if you'd ask me, i'll say that i'd love to have a version without the weak/useless/inefficient swords
No-offense... still could use it one day.. no-offense again! it's just that i'm into playing with Technical mods and care for efficiency, balance and perfection in mods..
If you consider playing with the Technical mods, modify this mod while your at it, please! (Bookmarked!)

I don't give a damn about what the community gives a damn about. Plain and simple. When I design mods, my highest priority is making it something I want to use, myself. It's all about me. The only reason anybody else gets input is because sometimes I don't think straight and my ideas have flaws. Also, sometimes other people have great ideas that I want to implement for my own use. Rarely do I ever add something if I don't want it or find it mischievously bratty to add (such as the Ayin Blade's quirks or the dickish crafting process for the Radiance series).

I hate technical mods. I hate Equivalent Exchange. I hate Buildcraft stuff. I hate Industrial Craft. I hate them all.

I was just suggesting, don't be rude..
Sorry if i annoyed you, but it's your fault to get annoyed by stupid reasons! (No-offense, but don't act like a child..)

I am a perpetually tired, busy, and stressed out individual. I get snappy sometimes. I try not to let that leak out into unrelated affairs such as innocuous forum posts but some times, it just happens.
I will apologize for being a bit too blunt in my prior posts but they were truth unabridged. Though, I suppose I'd truthfully downgrade my 'hatred' of technical mods to mere 'passionate dislike'.
Just an idea: You could add in something along the lines of a katana into the swords+ mod It could possibly add a speed potion effect.
Miko's blade is a katana. It doesn't give you potion effects though.

I feel bad. So much of Swords+ is getting tweaked around next update and I may or may not invalidate portions of that review video. :/

It's OK, life is rough sometimes, but i think your passionate dislike is the same i used to feel about the Technical mods, that changed when i found that Vanilla Minecraft becoming lamer and lamer with time.. (I still like your mod but most of the weapons would be awesome in SMP, but useless in SSP)
So with the API coming, will you consider making and supporting SMP ?

I've had plans for SMP. Minecraft 1.3's is just a convenient time to try it since it completely merges and revamps the whole SSP/SMP thing.

Have some spoilers then
Anything italicized is only theoretical and not guaranteed
Great Blade can mine all wood material blocks very quickly but no drops are yielded
Titania Blade can smash any wood material block instantaneously but, again, no drops
Great Blade and Titania Blade will be redesigned to look more sleek and attractive
Aurum Series will have their regen powers tweaked to be better and completely asynchronous of their classes
Slight redesign to the Aurum series as well
Arturia Blade now renamed "Arturia Lightblade"
Ayin Blade will now emit Ender particles when held
Slight tweak to the Ayin Blade's design as well
Divine Goddess Blade on up will only heal you if your natural healing factor isn't working (less than 9 food bars)
Chosen Blade and Blade of the Hero can fire their charge as a ranged attack if you so desire
Chosen Blade and Blade of the Hero gimped from 9 hearts of damage to 7 hearts
Blade of the Hero charges faster than the Chosen Blade (or the latter does so slower than the former)
Blade of the Hero no longer undamageable, but still effectively undamageable (you will understand this if you use BTT alongside Swords+)
New sword, "Inoue's Will", which is an upgrade to the Miko's Blade that retains all its powers
Miko's Blade loses "milk" power (potion negation)
New sword, "Amaterasu's Fury"
New sword, "Eclipsing Edge"
tweaks to the Radiance Series
More colors for "the perpetually annoying one"
All swords detonate in your hand and instantly kill you when held if your username is Pelirow Err... j/k
Tauvelite will no longer automatically repair your current item if held in your hotbar. You will have to craft Tauvelite into a different item called a Tau Crystal to accomplish this
Tau Crystals have other uses
Ezralite gains more uses pertinent to redstone and glowstone dusts as well as Ender Pearls
Two new bows, the "Grenadier Bow" and the "Alecto Bow"
Enjoy
so in other words, i shouldnt update because you completly nerf the hero's blade and it still cant be enchanted? got it
