Heya! I really like this mod, however I've noticed a small ...aesthetic issue with it.
All of the items from it seem to have "name" after them in the latest release. I tried using it on it's own, vs with the modpack I'm currently working on and the name "issue" still seems to prevail.
The rest of the mod seems to work fine it's literally just the "name" after each item i've noticed.
Playing with an "unorthodox" mod pack, and I've found that none of the fluid pipes will pump into the Smelters. I have pipes available from both Rotarycraft (usually very reliable with other liquid mods, works perfectly with Ender Chests, Dynamic Tanks 2, etc) and Engineer's Toolbox (only usually hooks up to ET stuff...but included for completeness). Which mod is responsible for making sure pipes will hook up to your Smelters? Do they have to change something or do you? I'd like to pump all my hard-acquired lava into there and not ladle it by hand...and I don't want to install Buildcraft just to get the waterproof pipes...

Ideas? Very enjoyable mod, btw.

TL;DR Individual higher-end ore is generating at rates less than 0.005% across several hundred chunks.
Hey, so I know that M3 isn't being developed any further, but I have a really bothersome issue. I run a server for my friends and I, and some of us have taken to quarrying. Others just to random mining. Personally, I've been building up a collection of all the armors your mod has to offer. I really do love your mod and I just need to get that out there because...
Ore generation is unbelievable. I quarried out a 10x10 (100 chunk) area, and found exactly 0 Zinc, 0 Adamantium, a couple of Atlarus, and maybe a handful of some of the other ores. I know that there's a level of rarity associated with the increasing tiers of ore, but Zinc? To make low level Brass gear? None at all? And No manganese either. I've tried to adjust the configs to increase oregen in new regions, but no one has reported any luck (RNG at its best?). Through searching, I found that at one point, config changes were made to not affect things, but never saw an update that said the functionality was returned.
I got a bit fed up and pulled a copy of the world down to my local box and opened it in MCEdit. I analyzed a huge region, 625 chunks that stretched from bedrock up to the sky (128 as far as the mod configs are concerned). It was in a mountainous region, just to get the most out of the scan.
The results are really shocking and disheartening:
Rough Number of Chunks: 160,000 * (1/16) * (1/16)
= 625
(7:0),Bedrock,160000
Highlights/Summation:
*Less than 200 of each Fantasy ore (except Carmot, hitting 227)
*Several thousand of each utility ore. These seem fine.
*41 Manganese ore and 66 Zinc ore. That's significantly less than any of the top-tier ores.
The base ores might be wrong. I've never had an issue finding Tin, Copper, or Silver. I only pulled the IDs that matched the Metallurgy configs, so thanks to the universal ore dictionary, other versions of those might have appeared further down the list and I missed them. As far as I am aware though, the rest of the ores in question are exclusive to M3 though.
If we assume for a moment that each column of blocks above every single bedrock block went up only 30 blocks (when in reality the average in the region is probably between 60-90), that would be 4,800,000 blocks. When their totals are summed, the "rare" ores (and manganese, and zinc) account for roughly 3,500 blocks. That is 0.07% of the entire region (and in reality, it's even less than that). There is twice as much gold on the map than there are M3 (non-utility) ores combined. 21x as much Iron. Only a few hundred less diamonds.
Please, tell me how I can fix this. Rare is one thing but these are bordering on unobtainable in any reasonable quantity. If this really is the level of rarity that you want, then I respect that, but I would still like some assistance here because my friends are starting to grumble about the fact that they are stuck at lower tiers of gear because they simply can't get enough metal to work with. I can appreciate it if your goal is to keep mid-tier metals from becoming obsolete by keeping the higher metals rare enough that you won't have enough to consistently repair your top-tier gear, but I don't think that mindset is going to stick well. If your answer is "Well, that's my vision for the mod, I'm sorry if it doesn't suit you. There's some other mods you can try...", I can appreciate that too, but I would really appreciate it if you could offer some advice here.

Thanks!
You can change the amounts that spawn and the amount in veins in the config. I also have mine set to spawn at any height in the world and get plenty of all of the kinds of ores. I also use the crushers so that I get 2x for each ore. I use Minecolonies mod and my miners are even getting stacks of the various types of ores. So I would suggest that you play around with the amounts that spawn per chunk in the config as well as the amount found per vein and even give having them spawn at any height a chance.
First: Thank you Shadowclaimer and Team for Metallurgy.
It is the reason I still enjoy this game daily.
For MC 1.6.4, what would you recommend as 'best' version for orespawn currently,
including version of Keithutil. and Forge that it was developed under.
I have two questions:
1. Is there any addon for make this mod compatible with Mekanism thats allows yo for Use the purification chamber for make clumps?
2. Why the IC2 Experimental doesn't macerate my ores? (Like Prometheum)
Sorry for the bad english (if there is something wrong)
I've been using this for quite a while and I just discovered that the item ducts from TE3 will not work with your machines. I'm trying to set up an ore doubler and nothing is happening. The machines work with Extra Utilities nodes and pipes. Were you aware of this? O_o

Yikes, I got a bit rambly there, didn't I? Whoops! Thanks for the speedy response.
We're currently running v.1.6.4-3.3.2.18, is that the bugged one? I'm going to re-download the world files off the server, update locally and then clear out the chunk files to regenerate the areas I've already checked through MCEdit, so I'd rather only have to do that once, heh.
Hello, bug report tiem. I doubt it's intentional, but copper ore mined from stone blocks and copper ore mined from gravel will not produce the same kinds of bars when smelted. One shows up simply as "copper bar," the other as "copper bar name," and perhaps it's my eyes, but I'd swear they look ever so slightly different in color.
Also I'm using the compatibility mod for TConstruct and Metallurgy, and Zinc Ore blocks look like something added by the mod. I don't know what, I've barely touched the game with all the errors.
I am new to this particular mod. I am currently running MC 1.6.4 with an assortment of 23 mods. This includes Tinker's Construct and the current version of Metallurgy 3.
I am using Soartex Fanver's resource pack. Before I installed Metallurgy 3, the graphics for my diamond armor and sword looked nice and clean. After I installed Metallurgy, I got a rude shock. The diamond armor and sword looked totally different and terrible. The same holds true for the gold armor and tools. What happened?
The other items appeared normal. It was just the diamond and gold related item. Gold ore block and diamond ore block looked normal.
UPDATE: 1. I downloaded a copy of Faithful 32x32 and I got the same thing with the diamond and gold stuff. Same problem persisted with Default.
2. Okay, I removed M3 from the mod folder and that core file. I turned on MC and everything is back to normal, for all 3 texture packs.
What happened? I've heard a great deal about it and I wanted to give it a shot.

By default, Metallurgy replaces the textures for vanilla tools and armor with textures that are more in line with the rest of Metallurgy's great armor and tool textures.
It's a simple config option located in MetallurgyVanilla.cfg:

Change that to false and the textures will go back to standard Minecraft textures.
Hi Xander,
Ok, I put the two files back in the mod folder and applied the above fix. It works beautifully. I took a better look at the other set of armors and tools. I see what you're talking about.
I've one other question, though. When I look at the names of the ingots or any other Metallurgy metals; it would say Steel ingot name. Name is added to the end of all Metallurgy metals. Why? I'm also using TC 1.6.4.

I can't offer an explanation for why items have "name" at the end of their names (mainly because I forget the reason), but it is a bug with Metallurgy. It was fixed in a recent build, but that was pulled because it had some issues relating to IDs.
It shouldn't affect the functionality or anything of the mod though, so there's no real downside to it other than it being slightly annoying.
I get that too
We're well aware of the bug
