Currently seeking contributors for a massive Wiki project @ http://minecraftuniverse.wikia.com The aim is to cover in-depth as many mods as possible, right down to Blocks, Items, and Crafting Recipes.
Actually no it does not, it talks about Buildcraft pipes and an add-on to Buildcraft's valves. Last I checked an add-on is something that won't work without the thing it adds to. Especially since it's recipes involve the use of things that can only be built with Buildcraft. The situation I'm talking about is how to get steam from a boiler to an engine WITHOUT Buildcraft being present at all.
Actually yes it does "but it is also possible to attach the devices directly to the boiler" it's not recommended but it is there.
Not sure if I should report this to you or to xcompwiz, so I'm telling you both. I'm having an issue with the new sound engine, Railcraft, and Mystcraft. I have a lava-fetching system set up with Mystcraft portals to the Nether. The new sound engine added some pretty decent sound effects for in-use track. The problem I'm running into is, the minecart going through the portal does not stop the sound effects, and every time a minecart comes back it counts as a new source of sound for the tracks.
Eventually, this builds up into a constant mechanical thrum, which I actually really like for my factory, provides a great feel to it. The issue comes in when the sound engine tries to play that many sources of sound at once and lags the game.
Sadfully, liquid unloaders aren't capable of providing steam to an engine attached to them w/o the use of pipes whereas loaders do work fine when attached to a boiler directly.
o.O yep I missed that. Thanks
Gah, going to be a messy build. The build I'm going to TRY and make is to have an automated rock crussher using Railcraft for the automation. So an automated water tank farm and automated coking oven system to feed the boiler followed by automated feed of coblestone getting reduced all the way down to sand (I've got a gigantic over supply of coblestone and a serious lack of sand atm so...). We'll see if I can get it all working (probably over the weekend)
Sadfully, liquid unloaders aren't capable of providing steam to an engine attached to them w/o the use of pipes whereas loaders do work fine when attached to a boiler directly.
Unloaders should be able to supply engines. Provided they are powered by redstone.

Question:
How do block signals maintain the info telling them which other signals they are paired to? I seem to have SOME (but not all) block signals that will react properly to a cart on the track (yellow if the cart is going away, red if cart coming towards you, etc)....then, for no apparent reason, suddenly forget its state. They'll go green, even though I'm looking *right at* the cart within the bounds of the paired block signals. Any additional changes to what goes on with the track (carts coming and going, etc) are now no longer recognized by these paired block signals.
I think my Railcraft mod has Alzheimers.
Oh, I've noticed that if I teleport to the *other* end of the paired block signals, they will register correctly for a bit...then go green and ignore any further events.
I should note the following things:
1. I'm still on Minecraft 1.2.5, because there are 2 fairly indispensible mods I'm using that are no longer maintained.
2. There are paired tracks. They are separated by a width of 1, and each block signal is on the outside edge of the rails. To put it this way: Block signal > track > NOTHING > track > block signal. I have a sneaking suspicion this might be causing the problem, but I'm baffled as to why my signals work SOME of the time. Some paired signals are very reliable. Others are totally flaky. And yet others vacilate between working fine and not at all.
Anyway, any help you can give would be awesome. I'd hate to think that I either (a) have to upgrade to MC 1.4.2 (there goes 2 mods that I'd really like to keep) or (B) completely rebuld the track.
Those mods, btw, are Extruder and a mod that has additional lighting items (they're pretty, and I'd hate to have to go find all the places where I used them so I can replace them with something else). I'm also using Forge (of course) and Journey Map. No other mods.
Question, when reloading an SSP game or SMP server, do all of the world anchors load up their respective chunks at that point, or do they have to be loaded by something else first?
Second, if not, could I 'cascade-load' all of them by placing world anchors in the spawn area chunk(s) and chaining those out to a bunch of world anchors from there?
After a bit of experimenting, I've come to the conclusion that this mod is incompatible with the GUI API mod, as used in the Mo Creatures mod. I hope this can somehow be resolved because I would love to use both mods, but as it stands I'm keeping Mo' Creatures.

Im looking for some help in setting up a system.
Here's what I have already. The main line goes from right to left. Along the track are a series of sidings (offshoots). Each of these sidings is controlled by a detector for a particular item. Ie first one is cobblestone, second is coal etc. As the train passes the detector it will send the cart down the first siding it comes to that it is carrying items for. So if it has cobblestone on it it will go down siding 1. If not it will carry on to the next siding. Once it has unloaded that particular item it returns to the main line heading to the right.
Here's the problem. At the moment once it has delivered the first item it returns to the main line and continues to the right. What I want is to set up a detector that when triggered will give one of 2 responses. 1) if cart is empty - carry on to right. If cart is not empty go back to the left and continue to deliver its goods until it is empty.
Can anyone explain (in simple terms please) how I can set up the detector to do this please?
Is there a way to rotate engines? I can't place 2 engines next to each, one will always snap to the other, preventing from building 2 x 2 x 2 boiler with one side covered with 4 engines.
as I said before in another post, use the buildcraft wrench or railcrafts crowbar while shift clicking the engine, be sure the engines are connected/next to a wooden electric pipe or a machine though.

try deleting the extrabiomes api out of the railcraft zip
Is RailCraft compatible with NEI because when I built this, NEI disappeared and can't get it back.
I just rebuilt it and am using TMI this time. The first thing I notice is now (after building it) when I go into TMI and turn on delete I have to hold the shift key to delete things.

That setup should be fine.
Your signal blocks may be too long and one end is being unloaded, although last time I checked it should still work even if the other end is unloaded.
For the record, I doubt updating will help much. I haven't touched that code in ages.

I can't believe people still have that bugged package, it was only up for two hours. Go redownload Railcraft.
After reading through some of the posts on this topic and seeing that many people are having oddities with
the GUI API mod that is used with Mo' Creatures.
I have to say they must be doing something wrong or some other mod is conflicting cause I have
Mo' Creatures and this mod runs fine with no problems.
Although I am using MultiMC and having tried Magic Launcher yet, but given the time were I live, it'll have to wait
in the morning.
BTW how does the Feed block work?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack

Hey Covert, I was reading some earlier posts and came across one you wrote in which you said you wouldn't be doing rails on the ceiling. Is that something you might reconsider, or is that the final word on the idea?
Keep up the great work!
Actually yes it does "but it is also possible to attach the devices directly to the boiler" it's not recommended but it is there.
Edit: ninja'd lol
Eventually, this builds up into a constant mechanical thrum, which I actually really like for my factory, provides a great feel to it. The issue comes in when the sound engine tries to play that many sources of sound at once and lags the game.
o.O yep I missed that.
Unloaders should be able to supply engines. Provided they are powered by redstone.
Second time I've seen this. For some reason its claiming that Gravel isn't a block, so you mucked something up.
Thanks!
Second, if not, could I 'cascade-load' all of them by placing world anchors in the spawn area chunk(s) and chaining those out to a bunch of world anchors from there?

I found this out by using a clean minecraft.jar file that only had Forge and then switching to one that had the GUI API files inside it as well.
If somehow my conclusion was wrong, then I hope this crash report can help in some way anyway.
Can anyone explain (in simple terms please) how I can set up the detector to do this please?
as I said before in another post, use the buildcraft wrench or railcrafts crowbar while shift clicking the engine, be sure the engines are connected/next to a wooden electric pipe or a machine though.
Already on 1.4.2

i believe there is some kind of error, correct me if it is wrong.
this is installed with minecraft version 1.4.2 + Forge 6.0.1.351 + Railcraft 6.7.0.0 only.
try deleting the extrabiomes api out of the railcraft zip
I just rebuilt it and am using TMI this time.
I'm using it prefectly fine with NEI...
That setup should be fine.
Your signal blocks may be too long and one end is being unloaded, although last time I checked it should still work even if the other end is unloaded.
For the record, I doubt updating will help much. I haven't touched that code in ages.
No need, Anchors will all force load on start.
Looks like GUI isn't compatible with Forge, not much can be done. You can try installing Forge ontop of GUI API.
I can't believe people still have that bugged package, it was only up for two hours. Go redownload Railcraft.
Hmm. I wonder if this odd behavior would stop if I drop world anchors by the problem block signals.
Experiment time!!!
the GUI API mod that is used with Mo' Creatures.
Keep up the great work!
