Hi this is my tool, dim helper, what this does is add the variable "Portal" to entityplayersp for situations like this:
in eclipse my mod couldn't find the variable portal and the code looks like this:
entityplayersp.portal = getDimNumber();
it couldn't find .portal so i added some stuff to entityplayersp and the error was gone!
now any dimension mod can use the source code and add it to the src folder and the variable will be their!

well my dimension mod compiles fine but when i use the portal i got to the nether so im working out how to change were i go and it may take a while cause im busy on IR

It can be both. In fact I'd say APIs are a subset of mods.
