Anyways, as mentioned by danix, it won't work with forge, but I believe you can get it working with OptiFine. The compatibility isn't the greatest, but it can work.

Ok, here's a weird bug: If you have a biomeless world with weather off (such as an infdev world) and you start the map when the rain or thunder flags are set, the fog will darken to rainy levels. using the /weather command to change them has no instant effect, but once you log into the world again, the change will occur.
Also, in earlier versions, I recall if you set the generator to one that didn't have structures, it would automatically set the structures flag to off, but this doesn't seem to happen anymore. Was this change intentional?
Speaking of structures, if you click the + button next to the generate structures button to pick exactly what will spawn, hitting either the continue or cancel buttons brings you back to the default page where you name your world and set the game mode, but it should probably just return you to the seed/options page.
is there a way to modernize the loot in dungeons to be the current 1.6.2 generated loot instead of the version the map is currently generating?
At first I didn't want to delete new loot. However, I noticed that the dungeon locations were wrong. After I removed enchanted books, the inaccuracy was gone.

Done. The third party programs are : wget.exe and junction.exe

Well, strongholds and other new structures use 1.6 mode on pre-1.8 generation.

They generate on 1.6 mode and pre-1.8 modes. On 1.8–1.5 they do not for obvious reasons.
And that applies for all 1.8+ structure changes — these changes are reverted for 1.8–$INSERT_VERSION_HERE modes, but are enabled on older and newer ones.

so if i were to start a 1.7.3 beta world, the dungeon chest would be before enchanted books where introduced, and mineshafts, strongholds and nether fortresses would be like the current build?

I've got a feeling it was the same issue they had with the lightmap with 1.8: Compatibility with older macs. They used OpenGL 1.3 multitexturing, which was a problem because apparently opengl 1.3 wasn't supported on Mac OS X until post 10.4 I think. Nowadays to support these older macs they can optionally use the ARB_multitexture extension, which is supported by the older versions of OSX. I'm guessing Notch didn't consider them an important enough feature to consider looking into alternative ways of doing it.
I'm not certain though, I've never seen an official post about it.
