Before the lag kicked in, I got to play a bit. I love it. By far one of the best Mods I have come across. i will reinstall when a fix comes out. Thank you for all your hard work. :smile.gif:
This might be a stupid question, but you don't say in the forum post or in the readme file what "patch.properties" is for. Can you explain that somewhere, because I'm afraid to delete it in case it's important.
you only need the patch.properties if you're using TFC's modmanager.
Anyway, it seems this mod isn't compatible with the Connected Textures Mod because it makes all my glass solid white! I know I installed it correctly because I heard the epic environment noises.
What reference? MAtmos is the contraction of "Minecraft" and "Atmosphere", the actual origins were "MinapticsAtmosphere" which used to be the ModLoader mod name, but all class files that I've written were shortened MAtmos, in which it became the new name of the mod after I finished coding it.

Weird, are you sure it's not ModLoader that conflicts? I've heard BetterGrass and ModLoader were conflicting giving grey textures.
It is amazing how much a little background noise adds to the experience. I'd love for something like this to be integrated into AdventureCraft or SDK's mods, as atmosphere heavily affects both.
Keep up the good work! I may have some sounds from my map that aren't either free to use/distribute or my own recordings. You have a lot of sounds though, so I don't know if I have that many...

Dunno which the poster was refering to but:
Matmos is an experimental electronic music duo originally from San Francisco but now residing in Baltimore
Matmos refers to the seething lake of evil slime beneath the city Sogo in the 1968 film Barbarella
Matmos might also originate from Swedish, literally meaning "mashed food".
Well, I tried this mod. It's fantastic, but rendered my game unplayable due to lag. It took me 5 minutes to set everything down to the lowest possible settings with it installed, and then another two just to quit the game. Oh well...
If some modders here have any insight on how SoundManager.playSoundFX(String, float, float) works please tell me.
When I'm trying to run this method it only ends up playing at the origin of the map.
I've been backtracking other points of the code where playSoundFX doesn't have this behavior (GUI, portal trigger, portal travel etc.) that is playing on both headsets, balanced, and I can't find out why I can't get a sound to play on both headsets at all times even if the player is moving.
EDIT:
By the way, I've encountered abnormal conditions where wind would play indoor (which is not supposed to happen in the situation). In the next update I'll try to tweak the wind volume intensity and prominence overall.
Remember, this is all about tweaking the database defined in matmos_default.dat.
So, did anybody tune a configuration with less wind?..
Wind is fine, but there's too much of it. It should be played kind of randomly, only sometimes, on big meadows and deserts. It may be played *always* at great height. But not in ravines, not in forest, not in big closed rooms.

You ****en signatures distract people from reading.
one thing i discovered! the cave sounds (dripping etc) play when im in my branch mine and it seems to lag the hell outta the game when checking area! especially when the cave sounds playing and then say the water flowing sound has to play (water nearby) or a portal sound has to load!
it's not the comp as my comp is very high spec and runs the game 100-200+fps no prop!
here's a pic:

(the green is where the sound for portal stopped playing, high points are where the sound for portal was playing/loading)
hope it helps
I'm getting this issue too. Lags to hell when I'm in the nether, too.
This mod doesn't seem to be working for me. I installed ModLoader and I put all the files in the right place, but it's not playing any ambient sounds. I'm not using MCPatcher and I don't have any other mods installed.
Install mcpatcher FIRST, WITHOUT bettergrass, and it'll work. I installed it on top of a bunch of other things, it's working great for me, aside from the odd stutter. I'm running HDTP with Misa's pack, GLSL Shaders, ZanMinimap, and this.
The issue is with modloader and bettergrass. If you want a BG-like effect, extend the sides of your grass blocks further down in an image editor. That's what I did.
You can eventually look at the end of the FAQ in the OP thread, and try to run Minecraft with a console open to do the following:
There are ways to diagnosis:
If your console gets spammed with lots of lines (pages of them) when loading the menu, then it is likely that MAtmos is running.
If your console does get spammed, start the game.
- If a line of text appears in the chat, then the .dat files are missing or corrupted.
- Else, this line of text doesn't appear, go back to the menu. Look at your console, and look at the first lines. If you see messages that are similar to "resource/atmos_hl/wind/strongwind.wav" is missing (for example), you have not correctly installed the resources (sounds).
Else, if your console doesn't get spammed, look at whether the word "ModLoader" or "Mod" appears on the screen. If not, ModLoader may be missing.
you only need the patch.properties if you're using TFC's modmanager.

I've got working CTM with this... you must have some sort of issue. I've got the newest version of ModLoader, the newest CTM, and MAtmos. They all work fine. Make sure everything's up-to-date
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------On topic, I think this quote sums up rain in this mod quite nicely.
Blow, winds, and crack your cheeks! rage! blow!
You cataracts and hurricanoes, spout 4
Till you have drench’d our steeples, drown’d the cocks!
You sulphurous and thought-executing fires,
Vaunt-couriers to oak-cleaving thunderbolts,
Singe my white head! And thou, all-shaking thunder, 8
Strike flat the thick rotundity o’ the world!
Crack nature’s moulds, all germens spill at once
That make ingrateful man!

I should mention the lagspikes seem tied to block breaking

Will it have better underwater sounds? or are Cricket's just that powerfull?
ps. love the mod :biggrin.gif:
PS: Use adf.ly so you can get some money! =D
