That's a pretty good idea overall, but I have a suggestion. Instead of remaining 1 block from start to finish, perhaps have the "splitting" be "random" as well. That is, instead of never splitting, it has a 1-in-4 chance, or 1-in-8, or something. Or, the higher the split point is, the less chance there is that it will split at that point. <-- With that idea, it could be set up so that from y=128 and down, the water separates just as it does in Vanilla Minecraft. And when y=0 or less, the water doesn't separate at all after that point. The idea there, is that most likely, the water has already fallen so far, by the time it reaches that point, that it will have separated plenty of times already.
Either way, it's a pretty good idea. But I do enjoy seeing large waterfalls (though, I can definitely see how an entire mountain covered in water could be annoying), so I don't mind if the water splits occasionally.
Double post: I can't get the PTM-integrated release to function. Is there anything I have to install beforehand, and has anyone else gotten it to work right?
I'm pretty sure a lot of the functionality of BTM/PTM is now built into Cubic Chunks. Instead of trying the "integrated" build (which I'm pretty sure is really old, but I could be wrong), try regular Cubic Chunks, and look for the *.INI file that should be made, and see if that can do what you're looking for. Also, look up some posts from user "Minecrack", and check his post about higher worlds (it's in his signature). I think his posts go into a little detail about installing Cubic Chunks, and using the *.INI file that's created.
Entries, over multiple days:
1. Just fixed three bugs: one that made the whole world generate as nothing but water blocks, one that made the world generate as nothing but regular ocean, and one that caused Minecraft to constantly unload all ChunkCubes that weren't near sea level...
I'd been meaning to overhaul the unloading system for ages, anyway; now I actually had to.
Now that that's out of the way, I can get back at that lighting bug...
2. I've decided to just re-write the whole lighting-update system (IE: the system that says, "Oh, here's a torch. Better make the blocks around it bright."), that Mojang just re-wrote for B1.7.3 to B1.8.1. I daresay their re-writes make it more efficient in Vanilla, but they destroy Cubic performance...
3. I've also decided to make each Chunk permanently store, and save, the First-Liquid-Or-Solid-Height-Map. This will be a save file size increase of 1/20 of one ChunkCube's size, per Chunk. So, it will be, at worst, 1/200 less hard-disk-space efficient.
4. Do any of you wonder what gorges will look like in Cubic Chunks?
@Itzli: Yes, it would mean you could add more blocks when it says, "out of terrain sprite IDs". The patch would require Forge and Cubic Chunks.
@AdverturerOK: Good Luck!
@Hightower: You're welcome.
@Japa: What exactly do you mean? Do you want, say, a pre-generated map of where-is-what-biome? Perhaps outputted to some sort of file? I'm pretty sure I could do that, if I ever had time...
@Masterhummel: No, it won't include Server, not for a while yet... That's a whole new update...
@kirakenso: As soon as I get the lighting fixed, which should be soon (I greatly hope so!).
@FourFire:
@MineCrak: LOL!
@MineCrak: Thanks for telling me... Pity it doesn't apply to Beta1.8.1...
@kinnikinnick: Thanks. :biggrin.gif: Also, go ahead with the mod! It sounds cool enough I've +1d your post, and if you built it, I'd add a link to it in the CC OP as a suggested add-on.
@Mathir_Girelad: I'm surprised you didn't see any trees. I can usually find trees, if the settings are anything reasonable... Hmm. I'll pay more attention to that.
@Captain Crazy: Do you happen to know Kingsley Shacklebolt, by any chance?
@Captain Crazy: That's a really old version. I'll probably actually take it off of the OP soon... However, the V1.5.2 has several BTM options. (Do note that at the moment, because of a glitch, you have to set them from the global file.)
@FourFire: The great thing is: this is electronic. So, you can just save a copy beforehand, then strike it down as many times as you want, and still have it when you're done. :biggrin.gif:
I'm glad you chose to work with Forge. I think it will still be used after Minecraft is released next month, unless their API will do the same thing as Forge but I doubt it.
When you talk about increasing the number of blocks ID, does it includes the sprites ID?
When do you thing 1.8.1 version of Cubic Chunks will be out?
I haven't been following this too close recently but I got to thinking about how to shrink both world sizes and the amount of memory the game needs. Seeing how large parts of the map are solid stone could you reduce them into a megablock of sorts?

Alright, I can't get the BTM to work. I need that Patch installed, right? Do I need either modloader or MC forge (or both) installed, and if so, in what order?
Alright, I can't get the BTM to work. I need that Patch installed, right? Do I need either modloader or MC forge (or both) installed, and if so, in what order?
That explains, in detail, how to install Cubic Chunks. You no longer need any additional BTM/PTM modded files for Cubic Chunks. As I said, many of the features are now built in. The *.INI file that you would edit is automatically generated, and can either be found in the .minecraft folder, or in the save directory of your world. If you install Cubic Chunks, and it's working, then you've got everything you need to use the BTM features (that are currently implemented). As I said though, check Minecrack's thread. It goes into great detail about installing Cubic Chunks. Hope that helps. Mouser X over and out.
Three releases: First, here is a patch that fixes a glitch that made CC V1.5.2 basically only recognize the global settings file. MAJOR NOTE: I've renamed the CC settings file to "CubicChunksSettings.ini"!!! Does anyone like / not like this?
Second, here is a test version of V1.5.3_Beta1.8.1. (EDIT: NOTE: it currently requires Forge 1.1.1, because I missed a few "if(hasForge()){}else{}" blocks when I updated. This will be fixed in the full release.)
@Mouser X: Good response. I have just renamed the file, though...
You will note that I called it "*.INI". I couldn't remember the name of the file (and I knew you were planning on changing the name anyway), so I didn't bother finding the exact name. Unless you changed where the file is saved, my post is still applicable, as it doesn't specify an exact name. However, Minecrack's installation post most likely does provide an exact name, so he's going to need to change/update that, I guess.
As for the name change, I personally prefer that that it remain as "biometerrainsettings.ini" (or whatever it was) for a number of reasons. However I understand why the name was changed, and I essentially agree with the change. Perhaps as a sort of compromise, Cubic Chunks does a check for the new *.INI file (I already forgot the name you changed it too...), and if it doesn't find it, then it checks for the old BiomeTerrain file. If the old one is found, read the appropriate settings, and then create a new Cubic Chunks *.INI file, using the settings from the old BiomeTerrain file. If neither file is found, then obviously create a new file, using the regular defaults. This way, people can use their old BiomeTerrain settings, without having to change/rename the files. Just drag+drop your old BiomeTerrain settings in, and Cubic Chunks creates the appropriate CC *.INI, based on that PTM file.
Anyway, glad to see such quick progress! I'm looking forward to CC for 1.8.1. Now that OptiFine is working for 1.8.1, and apparently is compatible to Minecraft Forge (which CC also uses), hopefully I'll be able to run CC+OptiFine! The lack of OptiFine support is largely the reason I haven't used CC yet (and why it took me so long to update to 1.8.1. I was waiting for OptiFine). I definitely look forward to using CC! Mouser X over and out.

I want to see 1:1 versions of all of these in minecraft soooo much! :biggrin.gif:
@FourFire: 30 "CHUNKS"? Holy Moly!! That will be beyond EPIC! You have to admit though, the following in-game made video would be awesome!:
Video: Colossal 30 Chunk x 30 Chunk Tower of Babel fills screen, as seen from a top a near-by mountain. Villages surround the base of the tower with villagers milling about. Camera starts to pan up, and up, and up the tower keeps going into the sky. Suddenly.. Clouds begin to form around the Tower very high up then roil and turn dark. Then Thunder & Lightning begins to be heard and seen from the cloud mass. notch's face can be seen to start forming in the clouds, looking angry..
Then his eye's turn red and massive lighting begins to strike the Tower!! Chunks of blocks being blown off of the tower with each strike! Even lightning spider-crawling along and licking the sides of the tower causing entire sections to blow apart! -- The smoke and clouds clear.. Only the ragged base of the Tower remains.. Then a time-lapse begins, showing the Tower rising again, being rebuilt by the villagers higher and higher...
** In fact; it dawns on me that this would make a great Intro Video for the Cubic Chunks Mod too! Something symbolic to do with people being willing to ascend to the Forbidden Heights in Minecraft, even if it angers the very god of minecraft itself. :wink.gif: :biggrin.gif:

@ Robinton: Please add an Auto-Climb toggle-able key to Cubic Chunks. And if possible a patch to do the same for the MC b1.7.3 CC v1.5.2. :smile.gif:
I've been thinking about this more and more and I think an Auto-Climb feature, whether it be a toggle-able key or whatever, should be a fundamental part of even Vanilla minecraft much less a higher world.
It becomes almost mandatory in a massively huge and tall world like the ones we are now making with Cubic Chunks. Even in vanilla I am rapidly tiring of the meaninglessness of having to hop with the space-bar in order to move around almost anywhere in the game. :sad.gif: It's ridiculous. And in an even more massive world where we will be climbing almost constantly.. Well.
* I really think that adding this little feature, with alterable key-binding and able to be disabled in the options.txt, will make the game sooo much more playable for everyone in these brave new worlds you are making. :wink.gif:

Minecraft makes you lose weight if you post in forums and literally shake with anger when someone posts something stupid.
I'd love to see more realistic geography with the ample space CC gives us. Lush lowlands, huge beaches, tremendous underwater trenches filled with sunken ships and snow capped, conifer covered, towering mountains with ore-encrusted lava cores.
Lol, I wanted to build a 1:1 scale Minecraft Barad-Dur since the yMod was released and I still want it, I started one but I think it was to little (diameter: 180 Blocks)^^
Seems that we have got the same idea :smile.gif:
I still hope for a 1.8 Bukkit-compatible Update :cool.gif:
If you are basing the tower off the depiction in Peter Jacksons Lord of the Rings, then the tower will need to be 1500 blocks high and have a base roughly 500 blocks diameter. The diameter at the top will be roughly 100 blocks. There is a decent picture of the tower here that you could use to get the rough dimensions.
I started to build Menger Sponge with Sponges then it crashed.

Third, here is RMob for Beta 1.8.1.
I will warn you, use V1.5.3 at your peril! The lighting will not update correctly!!! (I'll fix this soon, I'm still working on it...)
@Welka1982: Thanks. Forge already increases Sprite IDs. Full version as soon as I get the bugs out (hopefully < 2 days).
@Pjstaab: Oh! Create an IsCubeRock flag! Interesting... There are fewer of those than you would think if caves are around.
