Heh! I edited the config file so that towns spawn 1200 blocks away instead of the default 600.... I like really long routes
I think a mod like Millenaire should be made that accomodates train mod. Millenaire has all the bells and whistles for it, it just needs larger numbers and a couple more systems.
I also think we need a Steam shovel:
As well as a modern excavator (for those using diesels)
It could use the same code as the Track Builder, but instead of laying track, it collects all aggregate and ores and then dumps them into nearby freight cars.
That's when a specialized mod like Millenaire comes in with some sort of special unloading block, that allows you to quickly unload a freight car and sell its contents.
I can put them together but don't think it'll be animated
now this is something i could really use open pit mines here i come
I didn't get to finish the cab. But this gives you an idea. Dunno if Spitfire can implement it. I imagine it could use similar code as the Track Builder, except you can drive around anywhere, not just on rails. This version would require coal or wood and water like the steam locomotives.
Unfortunately the shovel wouldn't be articulated... unless I can figure it out with Spitfire. I really would like to animate certain things like pistons and drive arms on the steam locomotives.
I'm having an issue with any train that uses a liquid; on SMP. Adding any liquid to an engine by hand will crash the server and to make it work I have to remove Trainsmod, boot and join the server to erase the offending train, then reinstall Trainsmod. I can fill them with a Railcraft liquid loader but that's subject to the liquid loader bug. Also opening any Tender's GUI will crash the client

Any clue how I could fix this? The electric trains are fun and all, but with the lengths I'm working with it means I'm limited to two engines.
I resent the word demanded, if you feel this way and you have control over it, then who am I to stop you. I was merely suggesting an alternative for players interested in improving their use of the trains mod, but I'll bet there are mods out there that can do what I described, so it's really not an issue.
Now that isn't a bad idea, but I've seen griefed landscapes, you don't want ANY part of that. Perhaps griefed structures outside of cities unless the building has a farmer permit.
Im sorry if i offended you, mind my english,i believe 「Demanded」 is a rather strong word, while a request usually isnt minded you have to understand that what you are suggesting is merely catering to one end of the spectrum and not both which really can be problematic.
dependent on the amount of requests or as it sees to fit that idea that i dished out may or may not be worthwhile.
im really sorry if you feel offended, again mind my words and take them lightly.
Quite interesting talking lately
I know that loading/unloading carts is annoying but I will not copy a block that already exist in Railcraft
But a switch inside the freight carts could be done, it would load or unload stuff in nearby chests (it has already been asked by Infius a while ago)
And having not enough freight to move is more of a Minecraft global problem if you don't have mods that add lots of items
The problem is that every one can gather everything and create everything on its own: that doesn't create a demand for transport
Even in SMP you can live on your own and create anything
If resources where a certain areas then transport would be necessary
TFcraft is a solution but it changes so many things in Minecraft that many people don't like it
I have never played millenaire so I can't speak about it

That can be quite so but i do believe demand and supply will exist in SMP servers which have a predesignated borders where you can explore e.g x-1000+1000 y-1000+1000 limitations and the like which can indirectly create demand supply chains, also since a minecraft world is infinite and only limited by your server capability trying to have limitations in place isnt a good idea dont you think so?
no guarantees, but you would move mod folder mods to the mods folder, and apearently jar mods to the modpackjar thing in the bin folder. i tried the modpack jar thing with a mod called runescape ores mod(which, btw, is an awesome mod if you understand ores, and metals from runescape), but that failed. i could retry, but refined iron is made the same way as steel in the mod, however it is a forge mod.... sooo many things to consider. i shall now provide two examples:
ex. 1. runescape ores mod goes in the minecfraft.jar so you would put it in this directory for tekkit:
techniclauncher/<insert mod pack name here>/bin/modpack.jar
ex. 2. trains mod goes in the mods folder, so you would put it in this directory for tekkit:
techniclauncher/<insert mod pack name here>/mods
hope this helped!
Thank you, evidentally, the mod was just incompatible.
Combine PowerCraft, RailCraft and this mod, and it becomes very easy to need a lot of freight cars when you can automate mining and building equipment to build ever greater factories to widen your world , well, at least that's what I do. I still haven't found a town yet, sadly.
Thank you, I've been trying to find good mods that make trains more useful.

I understand completely, I've discovered somemod combos that do just what I want so if people like me want more challenge, THEY can go the extra mile. After all, they are the minority. And that's fine, I was just ensuring that you didn't really think that I was demanding anything. I'm sorry if you thought that I was very offended, I was more annoyed and expressed it too harshly.

I LOVE you!! This is like a dream come true! I really hope that this becomes implemented.

TFcraft would be the perfect solution for me, but it replaces vanilla ingots, perhaps you could make vanilla iron ingots interchangeable with wrought iron and steel interchangeable with the TFC steel? I would really appreciate it! (assuming they're compatible, I don't have minecraft access until later next week)

np, but which mod was it, if i may ask?
"In other news, tigerbird1 had a great idea today! Here's What's Her Face:"
"So tigerbird1, what is your idea for?"
"Spitfire4466's mod, Trains mod, i highly recommend it."

It's flan's WW2 mod, I'm very interested in world war two and his mod just does a great job with it. (though the vehicle roll controls need work)

yes i used to use that mod as well, and i agree, the tanks and jeeps need more work in terms of movement. however the reason why it isn't compatible, is because it uses modloadermp which is incompatible with forge, which all the mods in tekkit use. i loved bombing stuff, and using the guns too.....
can someone help me, whenever i try to attach a 3rd car to my train, it says, Attached!, then the cart i tried to connect shoots of in the other direction. i connected the 2nd car to the engine before connecting a third.

I had picked up coal in my inventory and before that put stone in the track builder for the walls when I didn't want to. I then put the coal and the wall of the track accidentally and it immediately said "saving chunks" and went to a black screen and my save is (I believe) corrupted. Any help?
Here's the completed Steam Shovel. Wasn't sure on the cab colors. Couldn't use a wood grain like on the other pic because the cab is made of multiple elements and FMC seems to have issues with proper UVW values. I may provide alternate PNG's to let you choose.
[Edit] Bleh... was missing the bucket arm steam-valve and sproket assembly... (may have to refresh image).
Sent off to Spitfire, who knows what he can do with it. I forgot to scale up the cab a little, I was working with the steam locomotive scale instead of its own scale. So it may require a little editing.

now please please try your best to animate the arm:)
you have just opened minecraft up to the idea of open pit mines
btw is there any chance that we might see a haul truck that could be loaded by this ?
This is not a train, so it will be a bit weird in a Train mod (Yes I know: the zeppelin) So should it be Train, zeppelin and steam shovel mod?...
It is possible to animate boxes but due to number of boxes I see in the arm it would be a real nightmare: rotating one boxe implies that all other boxes must be move to fit the new position of the rotated box. And that's only with one box rotating
And I see about 12 to 14 boxes in the arm
If it's not animated, well it will look kind of static when you digg...

I think that this would be a good idea, I hope the modders agree!
Good idea, though I'd likely just use them for looks, and they should break if the trains ram them too hard.

In other news, tigerbird1 came up with a suggestion today for the trains mod, created by spitfire4466. Here is What's Her Face reporting:
"So, Tigerbird1, what is your idea?"
"This will probably be hard to texture, but my favorite steam locomotive ever is Daylight, and if it could be added to the mod, i'd be exhilarated."
"This was What's Her Face, back to you, What's His Face!"
