optifine when installed last overwrites 7 files that BTW uses. If you install optifine then install BTW over top it works, but you lose alot of optifine functionality. So technically it is not compatible, but some of it works.
ooo what functions are erased if you install it after BTW? That is how I do my installs.
If a mod pack was to form PowerCraft would have to be a requirement. It doesn't overpower BTW at all and it feels like BC did back in the day with just the basics (transport, builders, and factory). It has a computer function (weasel) which if someone takes the time to learn the syntax can take their game to a whole new level, but without destroying the content of BTW. As of right now though MightyPork has stepped down from the development of PC and left it with two other gents. I just hope they avoid the trap of Forge.
I sure hope there is a way to disable that. I very much dislike the nether and avoid it when possible.
A big part of the mod is trying to make the nether more useful, so no, I doubt it'll be an optional feature.
Besides, what's really so bad about the nether? Yeah ghasts are annoying, but unless you have to play on short render distance as I do, they're pretty manageable. Enchant some bows and practice your archery. Pigmen are usually non-hostile, and both other mobs can be avoided rather easily. Constant cliffs and lava? watch your step and you're golden. If anything btw makes the nether safer... if you're willing to work at it a bit.
I have found a bug with optifine and BTW. If I install them together, the BTW blocks take on textures from vaniila blocks, like the axel when placed looks like it's made out of iron ore, the gear box looks like mossy stone on two sides and mostly invisible on the other sides until an axel is placed on it, which makes it look like obsidian. Lastly from what I saw, the block dispenser looked like tnt and stone slabs. I raged and removed optifine just to meet some lag with even minimum settings. Sorry if this has already been posted but if you know how to fix it please let me know. And no, installing a compatible texture pack didn't work, it just showed the texture packs versions of the blocks. Sorry about the wall of text but I had to explain it kind of clearly. Also, if you want I can have some pics up to show you what I mean by tomorrow afternoon.

My issues with nether aren't the monsters. I tend to find the lava a lot down there. So much so that I try and limit my need to go in the nether at all. When I am forced to go down there (for glowstone or netherack) I carry a ton of cobble with me.
That kind of stinks to not have the option to disable the growth

I haven't had any issues with Optifine and BTW. I install BTW first as well as any other mods that require the jar. The last thing I ever install is Optifine. That is why I am so curious about the Optifine and BTW conflicts.
Which version of optifine do you use? I have tried two, one crashed and the other one stuffed the textures. And yes, I installed optifine last otherwise magiclauncher says "not compatible". Lastly, no, I don't think it's magiclauncher, but I'll try it without it.

I'm a lot more terrified of lava than nether mobs. The best place to build in the nether is the ceiling. Find a "mountain" that touches the ceiling and dig up to level 111 or higher. It's all solid netherrack up there according to the wiki. I moved my nether portal up there and have a windmill up there too.

I haven't been able to get OptiFine to work with BTW, but I always install BTW last. It gives me a black screen after I click the button to log in. I'm afraid that it will erase my save if I install another mod last over the BTW mod.
I have recently faced the same problem. I installed ML, BTW, then OF and removed the the jw.class so I could see Dragon Orbs. Each BTW block is using the default terrain.png textures, and it occurs with my JohnSmith support as well as in Vanilla. I took OptiFine out last night, but the lag spikes are very annoying and can no longer run fancy graphics without shooting to 10 fps.

Lurking the BTW official forum, I viewed you were to install BTW last, however I get a black screen as well. I'm strong against never using Magic Launcher or MCPatcher, I always find it a tad bit fun putting crap in my .jar.
Edit: Browsed the BTW Forums again and ran across a solution. Installed a previous version of OptiFine, (C2) and textures are back to normal.

i just patched with the last version of mc patcher and installed modloader + btw.... what did i do wrong?
use manual install, magic launcher screws it up, multimc works with a bit of tweaking to the BTW package, puting the contents in their own zip and telling multimc to use that zip and not the downloaded one

windoge 8 has the saddest excuse for a BSOD, it just tells you the type of error, no stop code, no nothing, just "something went wrong, all your unsaved work has now been lost to the void that is volatile memory"

One important thing to understand about the difference between me and other mod developers (or even Mojang for that matter), is that when people whine at them about difficulty or player death, they tend to eventually cave to public pressure.
With me on the other hand, well...I just laugh and grow another tentacle.
Help please i get this error, this is the full crash report from the folder crash-report

Yeah, following that logic I'm going to have them drop diamonds in the next release of the mod (can't let Mojang beat me to the punch there).
Along with that, I'll be adding a full range of obsidian tools.
