Checksum on disk is fbd2424, in patch 5d51dffe. Things are probably about to go very wrong. Did you put something into the jar file?
2013-07-16 14:44:40 [SEVERE] [ForgeModLoader] The game is going to exit, because this is a critical error, and it is very improbable that the modded game will work, please obtain clean jar files.
never heard of the whole work around installing in jar but in libraries method use "-Dfml.ignoreInvalidMinecraftCertificates=true" only seen it use "-Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true"

Now that we have multiple versions available, once again I find that the Standard (non-Ultra) B1 works better for me (I first discovered this back around 1.2.5, but then took a long break).
All I'm running is OptiFine and a small number of my own simple mods - no Forge, MCPatcher, etc. I used identical settings - in particular, leaving AA and AF turned off in Ultra. On a long minecart trip, constantly loading new chunks, and slowly panning my view around in circles, Standard remains (almost) perfectly smooth, but with Ultra I get big lag spikes. More specifically, the spikes occur when I stop turning my head; as long as I keep panning, it also generally remains smooth.
This is puzzling, because it seems pretty clear I have CPU to spare. My Mac is a quad i7 (8 virtual), and at least in windowed mode where I can watch a performance monitor, I'm typically using only a little over 100% (of one core), sometimes bouncing up to 150-200 but the average is probably about 120-125%, and the load is distributed pretty evenly across the 4 cores.
(On the Performance Settings page Smooth FPS is ON, everything else there is Off, Render Distance is Far, and my framerates are typically 50-70, rarely hitting 45 or 90. Java is 1.7.0_25.)
Out of curiosity, I ran Standard with Performance/Chunk Updates per Frame at various settings. Anything other than the default of 1 causes the same spiking behavior as in Ultra (note that in Ultra it is occurring even with 1 update per frame selected, though perhaps that setting doesn't apply).
However, it seems it may not be related to actually loading chunks. In a separate test, I simply stood in one place, waited at least a minute for loading to settle down, and then spun around in place. This works smoothly with Standard, but is jerky with Ultra. I think Chunk Loading: Multi-Core is somewhat worse than Default or Smooth with Ultra, but all of the Ultra options are quite disruptive. A more general example is when a tool freezes in mid-swing, then ends up hitting a block other than intended. This is a rare exception in Standard.
I'm not complaining, just offering this for informational purposes. With Standard, I'm delighted with the performance, and functionality (esp. the zoom!); I don't really care about AF and in general I've found AA to cost more than it's worth to me. And whatever the issue is with the Ultra versions, it's not something new.
If you can live without AA and AF, you may wish to make the comparison yourself, instead of just assuming Ultra is the best you can do.
I'd like some suggestions as well. I've tried every version of Optifine 1.6.2 possible but I am nowhere near the FPS I used to get. I was at a solid 80FPS, but now I'm stuck at 40 on the overworld at best, 62 in tunnels at best. It's just not good enough for me.
I've moved to trying to mess with my PC settings, so any tips are appreciated. I'm running Windows 8, 8 gigs of RAM, decent graphics card.
So this freaked me out by giving me a pretty long blackscreen, but then Minecraft loaded and Forge and Optifine seemed to get along just fine. Watching the log nearly gave me a heart attack though. *** Starting Minecraft ***

2013-07-16 19:13:47 [SEVERE] [ForgeModLoader] FML is going to ignore this error, note that the patch will not be applied, and there is likely to be a malfunctioning behaviour, including not running at all
You managed to decompile and continue without me giving source code? O_O Bro, you are a god. Of course do whatever the [REDACTED] you want!!!! Good luck on it
For some reason the newest OptiFine versions clash with mccapes. I find that the first [1.6.2] versions worked fine.
It's because the Ultra (and maybe Standard too?) and MCCapes (I use standard for it, but ultra may also be affected) both modify the ber.class file. This is not with Optifine, it is MCCAPES. The 1.6.1 version of MCCapes modified bej.class but they've changed to ber.class with 1.6.2.
The optifine (not vanilla) animation features don't work any more. I am using OptiFine_1.6.2_HD_U_B2 and animations converted with MCPatcher simply don't show up at all. I also tried using the .properties file from my 1.5.2 version but it still won't work.
I see that the "Information for texture pack authors" has not been updated either. So I guess you might not have added the animation features yet, but I don't see any to-do list. I can provide a sample animation and/or more info if needed.
Also, feature request:
I would appreciate it if you added the extended random mob features that MCPatcher has, like weights and biome specific skins. Maybe you can work that out with Kahr. Seems to me like he does all the work with texture stuff.
I get this crash when I install Tinkers Construct with Optifine. If I remove optifine, I don't have a problem. It seems to also be tied to the texture pack. I use Sphax 128 with a lot of mod texture addons. Without using the addon for tinker, I still get the crash. If I use Optifine and use vanilla textures I don't get the crash.

This is my pc specs:
I don't care if I am on minimal settings using Optifine, but I would like to not lag while playing. What settings would you recommend I use?
I've moved to trying to mess with my PC settings, so any tips are appreciated. I'm running Windows 8, 8 gigs of RAM, decent graphics card.
If you're going to try to use server costs an an excuse, then be like Rei and just use Dropbox. It's easier on everyone.
So this freaked me out by giving me a pretty long blackscreen, but then Minecraft loaded and Forge and Optifine seemed to get along just fine. Watching the log nearly gave me a heart attack though.

I don't mind it helps the creator make money, I'm sure many others don't as well.
it didn't work for me, it says that the java virtual machine couldn't be created

Gave up trying to download https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/versions/1.6.2_OptiFine/1.6.2_OptiFine.jar for job 'Version & Libraries'
Job 'Version & Libraries' finished with 1 failure(s)!
Thank you it fixed it. Hell you helped me more than the people who worked on forge did. They kept insisting I messed with the .jar.
