If they were smart, they'd do it themselves, and probably add some features not seen by OF into it, as well. They are saying they're working on a new render system that they'll add someday, it may even be better than what OF does.
I'm doubting they'll ever get around to the new render system. Dinnerbone's pushing for more stupid features to be added to the game, the rest of the Bukkit team's hardly putting any work that gets attention, and Jeb's an incompetent head dev since he can't seem to put the team to work on major feature sets and promises they've made. The official mod framework's been promised for three years, but we're no nearer to having it now than we were that summer, despite Mojang hiring the Bukkit team over a year ago for this very purpose. The rendering rewrite was originally intended to be implemented in partly in 1.4 and continued in 1.5. As you can see now, horses, redstone enhancements, hay bales, and coal blocks were much more important to the developers than a reasonable framerate. The rest of the fishing system has been promised to be implemented since the original Halloween Update, but evidently no thought has gone into it at all ever since. There were many more mobs promised to be incorporated in 1.6, yet evidently this posed too difficult for the developers to implement before their deadline. Resource packs as a system are incomplete. Villagers still don't pose any purpose other than cannon fodder and black holes for rare emeralds -- something Jeb has promised to expand upon nearly a year ago but evidently forgotten. The revised account system has been under work for over a year. I'm going to be surprised if anything productive gets implemented.
tl;dr the developers are too ADD to follow up on their promises.
The horrible performance of Minecraft is due to the CPU dependency of Javascript rather than C. Most games are coded in the C language and perform better than Minecraft can. (Games such as Max Payne, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, Warcraft 3, Command and Conquer Generals, Warzone 2100, Tremulous, Need for Speed Underground 2, Counter Strike 1.6, Fate, Quake III Arena, Unreal Tournament 2004, Sim City 3000, Sim City 4, System Shock 2, Uplink, Age of Empires 2, Sid Meiers Civilization IV, etc...)
Games that are made in Javascript are more CPU intensive and LWJGL is very dependant on the Graphical Processing of the PC.
My PC is a perfect example of these depencies and how effective they are with different hardware and different software.
My processor doesn't like Javascript, this goes with The Binding of Isaac, Prison Architect, and Minecraft. That's because my processor is a Single-Core Intel Celeron processor with 3.46GHz processor clock speed. The fact that my CPU has to manage the operating system and other hardware drivers and software on the computer running in the background, makes games coded in LWJGL a pain to run.
My graphics card is an onboard chipset, it is an Intel 82945G Express that has the latest installed driver. My graphics card is very outdated, since it can't run Shader Model 3.0 for DirectX games, and it won't even attempt to render OpenGL games made with any form of shaders. Since I have the chipset onboard, I can't utilize more than 256MB of Video Memory, and that has to be used on my operating system and anything else that is being rendered on the system. (Cursor, Background, Colors, Lighting, etc...)
My computer has 2GB of RAM to spare, and I have 2x 1GB DDR2 memory with 533MHz of memory clock speed, so it has trouble utilizing multiple programs at a single time since the memory is constantly trying to keep up with constantly updating visuals and the operating system itself.
So if you don't have a multicore processor with at least 2GHz of processing speed, and a video card that can manage OpenGL shaders with more than 256MB of video memory with 4GB or more RAM on a 64-bit Operating System, then you will experience lag and other framerate issues on even the lowest settings that Minecraft has to offer.
I don't get more than 30FPS on a flat world setting for Minecraft 1.5 without Optifine.
I can now manage more than 60FPS on a flat world for Minecraft 1.6 without Optifine. (but it has serious lagspikes that can take any framerate to < 5 FPS for several minutes at a time on a flat world)
If they were smart, they'd do it themselves, and probably add some features not seen by OF into it, as well. They are saying they're working on a new render system that they'll add someday, it may even be better than what OF does.
Does that sound even remotely like Mojang to you at all? We're not talking about 1990's Microsoft here. If the ethos of the company looks anything like public sentiments of its honchos and the broad, collaborative community that supports it, then the last thing I would expect Mojang to do when a part of that community is adding value to their brand is to go out and find some way to appropriate or extinguish it.
"Smart?" In what sense? Tossing away their sterling reputation as an indie darling by cannibalizing its own base? lol I don't think so.
Problem: I can't give cookies on this. It doesn't load...
Don't worry! I have something better!
Soup for all!
On topic of the mod: This is the one mod I can't live without! I'm so glad you keep working through all the new stuff with resource packs and such! Keep up the great work sp614x!
I'm upset that my free Minecraft DLC isn't giving me what is in my opinion, enough content.
FTFY.
Firstly, it's not free and it's not DLC; I'll elaborate.
See the term Downloadable Content:
Downloadable content (DLC) is additional content for a video game distributed through the internet by the game's official publisher or other third party content producers. Downloadable content can be of several types, ranging from aesthetic outfit changes to an entirely new, extensive storyline, similar to an expansion pack. As such, DLC may add new game modes, objects, levels, challenges or other features to a complete an already released game.
and the term Patch:
A patch is a piece of software designed to fix problems with, or update a computer program or its supporting data.
...
Video games receive patches to fix compatibility problems after their initial release just like any other software, but they can also be applied to change game rules or algorithms. These patches may be prompted by the discovery of exploits in the multiplayer game experience that can be used to gain unfair advantages over other players. Extra features and game play tweaks can often be added.
Game patches do not meet the standards of DLC, leading the term to logically collapse to "free content." This content, however, is not free; it's distributed in the game a cost of €20.
Secondly, it's all major content that's been confirmed and promised by the developers for a substantial amount of time, not me listing feature sets that I demand. I personally couldn't care less half the features I listed, rendering rewrite included. The point I was making in that massive wall of text is that the developers are largely incompetent and that I don't expect them to get around to the new render system for quite a while.
(Did you only read the tl;dr statement and think I was referring to the OptiFine developers? The entire wall of text was complaining about the Mojang dev team.)

I was under the impression that he was talking about Optifine, as this is, after all, a thread about it... In which case, it is free, it is technically DLC, and the developers have absolutely no obligation to release the updated version if they don't want to. On another note, Jeb has been promising a method of changing usernames for over a year now, and look how far that has come! (http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/swt9j/jeb_mollstam_is_working_on_a_way_to_change/)
For some reason my email is giving me a ghost post that came before the "FTFY". To whoever said that, Minecraft was made in Java. Java is not the same as JavaScript. JavaScript is a coding language for web browsers. Java is a coding language for stand alone programs.

The post I was replying to was in response to my remarks that it's been up to years since some major feature sets had been confirmed for the game itself, yet had not been added. As I said in my revised response, perhaps he misinterpreted my post through only reading the tl;dr at the end and believed I was referring to the OptiFine devs, rather than the game devs.
If I were sp614x id send every user the link to optifine through a privet email, and let the jerks sitting there DEMANDING it be finished watch it sit at 99% for a couple weeks.

Nothing more relaxing than reading random posts in here, drinking water, making some Enderman drawings on a piece of paper, and refreshing the page every 30-60 minutes ;D

Why do you bother refreshing so often? Every 3 hours should do.
Does anyone realise that it will seem longer if they watch it for longer? Go away, take a nap, and realise that several hours just went by and the percentage probably increased a bit.

xD Haha. That would teach 'em.
1.6.2 has sure some bug fixes.
I hope it is ready when i wake up
