I'm not sure if what's happening to me is the same as Malkierian, but it sounds similar.
In my game, distant chunks flicker like a strobe. I load up a saved game; the immediate surroundings are fine; but distant hills and a tower that I built flash and flicker rapidly, as if the game is struggling to load them.
I've been trying to look into the issue and people keep referencing this mod as the cause, so I was wondering if anyone knows what I can do to fix the problem. I'm using MC 1.24 and have tried both the "smooth" and multi-thread versions of this mod, and both give me the same results. I'm not using any other mods of any kind, though I do have texture packs installed if that makes any difference.
I'm assuming that someone else may have had, and defeated, the problem on an earlier page, but with 834 pages to go through I don't know where the answer might be.
Does this work good on macs. Because I wanted to test minecraft on my mac but laptops are way worse than home PC's and I get 25 fps. I tried on two macs but neither of them gain much fps (maybe like 3 or so) does optifine work for macs?
Hey I love this mod and all but I'm having a bit of an issue. An HD texture pack I've been dying for to get updated finally updated a couple days ago and I wanted to use it but whenever I load up MC with the texturepack in my texturepack folder I can't load any worlds. Just a black screen. As soon as I remove the .rar file for the HD pack it works fine. Help?

That sounds like a problem with the texture pack.
And I thought texture packs had to be .zip files?(I could be wrong, it's just that I have never had a none .zip texture pack work)
I always like to say before I post bugs that this mOD IS AWESOME! I love it! Thank you so much for making it!
So the first problem I'm having is the same as Malkierian's above. Large chunks of the world go invisible, but are still there of course. If I walk in or around the area, it usually pops back. Also like he mentioned, breaking a block seems to reset it too. I've noticed that a water change makes it a lot worse. Whenever I dump a bucket of water, and probably lava too, this starts happening 10x as much all over until there's no more change in the water, i.e. it's flowed as far as it's going to. Using the default texture pack, the chunks fix a lot quicker when they glitch (I'm guessing because it's easier to reload the smaller textures) but they happen just as often.
Second problem I'm having is probably just a user error. There must be some option I'm missing because when I switch from Far view distance to Extreme, there's barely any difference. It seems to basically just eliminate fog at the edge of the Far view distance, and add maybe 5 blocks more of visibility.
Here are two screenshots of me zooming in (ctrl) on the same target, showing the difference:
Far View Distance
Extreme View Distance
As you can see there's not much of a change. Also, there's no difference in view distance if I switch between the default texture pack and the one I use(LB PhotoRealism 256x v7.8.2).
For both my problems, I have no mods except Optifine installed. Just dumped Optifine into the .jar and deleted the META folder, and selected my texture pack and preferred Optifine settings of course. Let me know if anyone has a fix for either of my problems.
Thank you Estelyen, that seems to have fixed my first problem at least in 10 minutes of testing. We'll have to see what happens in the long run. The odd thing is that it never happened before, with or without optifine.
And I think you were right about the second problem as well because in single player it works fine.
I appreciate the reply, but it's my own fault that I wasn't more detailed- I actually already did try turning off the Threaded Optimization and forcing Vsync in my Nvidia control panel, but nothing changed.
I found a video that basically shows what's happening to me.
I should note that my game doesn't have all the video options that are shown in this clip, so I've obviously screwed something up independent of the flicker.
I have a strange problem. I use MCPatcher to install mods. I tried without MCPatcher's HD stuff, using OptiFine's HD stuff instead, and all my chests had the textures of several different blocks instead of the chest texture, and my character also had the same textures all over him, as well as missing his right arm completely. Now, I want to use OptiFine, but I won't unless I can fix this.
EDIT: It was the Smooth version that did it, the plain one doesn't do it, but I get less of an FPS increase.
I tested the new Multi-Core-AA preview edition and I did run into a minor issue that I do not get with the plain Multi-Core edition.
At least when sprinting, I will sometimes get mostly-vertical flashing white lines between blocks in the distance (like on the jagged side of a mountain). It's weird because they're mainly vertical with a few horizontal ones. It's not horrendous, but is noticeable. I would still consider it minor though. I can personally live with it.
This happens for me when I have the Antialias setting configured to OFF. If I enable it, the problem diminishes but then I start running into the problem with constant white lines around blocks near me instead. Anisotropic-filtering did not seem to make any difference for this. Although, I personally felt I was taking too much of a performance hit when enabling Anisotropic-filtering. So, I disabled that too.
I tested combinations of the above settings with Mipmapping both enabled or disabled.
so optifine says it supports connected textures and it has an option to turn it on and off but it doesnt work? i tried different texture packs and different settings but nothing works. Please fix this since i cant get optifine and mcpatcher to work together to get connected textures either.
It works.
Not all texture packs support the original connected textures.
A texture pack needs to have a ctm.png file (all lowercase) in the root of the zip file for it. If you try to use connected textures and the texture pack you are using does not have that file, the default textures will be used for the connected textures instead.

...
I can not reproduce it, tried all combinations of AF/AA/OFF.
When AA is OFF it is normal to sometimes see flashing horizontal lines, especially on snowy hills without BetterGrass. This happens with Classic also.
Can you post a screenshot or a video?
That is so awesome. Will the old capes be replaced with new one aswell? Or is it for the later donators? P.S. Thanks so much for the new multicore update.. its awesome.
This line from logs looks suspicious. Latest Optifine MT, not seen in Standard.
And yes, i still get transparency, even after switching to Ubuntu 12.04 (i broke my Mint 12). Using Java 7, but i tried OpenJDK too. OpenJDK feels actually smoother, but it still got Smooth/MT bug.
I'm starting to think it's lwjgl-related issue, but 2.8.4 still got this.

This is a 4x HD cape, corresponding to a 64x texture pack.
I am planning to add a bunch of capes including some 2x and 4x HD capes. It will be possible to select one of the capes when donating.. The HD capes will also be available for old donators (of course).
I am currently considering what is the best way to enable custom HD capes. Later this may also be extended to include custom HD skins.

I believe the "Custom Capes mod" or whatever it's called, allows you to login to a website and from there upload the cape you want. Maybe you can do something similar, but only donators will be able to login (you cannot register) and when you are logged in you can not upload capes, but pick capes you have avaible. So you can choose if you want the present cape or a new HD one and etc. Just an idea.
Also: I am using the A6 MultiCore + AA&AF version, and if I enable AF the compass (and probably the clock) stops to work. The item in your hand doesn't show the red thingy. Turning AF off fixes it.

Just tested, compass and watch work fine with A6 Multi-Core+AA when AF is enabled.
i have a laptop with a dual core processor... is this what multicore was intended for, or was that more for things with LOTS of cores like full PC's with 4 or more.
just wondering if having 2 cores makes it worth it, or if id be getting better results with another version.

Linux? Windows?
If Linux, could you post your «glxinfo | grep -i opengl» output?
And post your system specs, please.
