Not really true. Forge would still probably exist. If you want to consider something the "Bedrock" of modding, it would have to be MCP even though it isnt even mandatory to use it in order to make mods. Modloader is a commonly used mod though, and has significant importance because hundreds of other mods rely on it. My other post was deleted for update spamming? Really? All I did was ask WHEN anyone thought the update would be released, or if there had been any news on it. Then I tried to explain exactly how I feel about people bein' all "Take as much time as you need!" We really do need this update, and despite the fact that the author of it "Owes us nothing" (Which I agree with) I encourage him to get it out as fast as possible. In my mind this is not "Update spamming," but whatever. I am certainly not one of those people who goes "Y U No maek modsxz workK!" I actually understand that making mods is difficult, and that it takes time. And I hope you understand that.
Well actually forge (or rather fml, show cpw some credit) has an *almost there* compatibility layer for modloader mods, so yeah, one or the other will still exist.
Hey Risu, I just wanted to express my thanks for all the hard work you have put into making modding possible for the mod I play and all the others that build off your fine work! Its awesome that you take time out of your life to provide something like this for this community. I can't imagine the number of gameplay hours you have made possible for players as a result of modloader. I've been using modloader for over a year now. Thank you so much!
I shall add my thanks here too, for probably the most useful mod of all. It's thanks to Risugami that I've had so much fun in Minecraft than I would've ever had without any sort of mods. <3
I remember when Modloader came out, and for a while very few mods used it. Installing a mod back then was easy, as long as you only wanted one mod. Adding a second inevitably created conflicts. It was purely guess and check. Modloader promised and provided a solution for that, mods that didn't go into the jar and almost always had compatibility.
I guarantee that everyone that remembers what the modding scene was like 2 years ago can appreciate that fact. Risugami has done such an amazing job maintaining a pillar of the community with no thoughts of compensation for his time.
Well, I remember, and I appreciate it, damn it! Hats off to you, Risu, and thank you for making minecraft modding tolerable!
Thank you, Risugami! I'm sure I've been using ModLoader for more than a year now and if you add it all up, that's hundreds of hours of gameplay that your dedication to this modding community relied on.
You are a credit to this community! Thank you thank you thank you!
I googtuple (is that a word?) the sentiments of thanks. It's a great mod and hopefully he's not done with it.
As a former modder myself (another game years ago) I do understand if he wants to move on. You can't do this forever. However, if he is at that point (or past it), I hope the source code is released so others can pick it up.
Otherwise, it's not the end of world folks. There are alternatives that can fill the void and as I said in another post, the update is still young, give it time.

Plz stop the update spam! If you kept asking for him to update to 1.4.2 then you are idiots! Give him a break he needs to look at the code for 1.4.2 first. Now stop spamming or else this thread is locked for update spam until he contacts a admin for it to be unlocked!
Can't you read ? It's just a page made just in case the mod will be realeased !!
And i don't think it's a good ides to link to another website to download stuff that should be downloaded here.
ATTENTION FELLOW MODDERS:
Never use unofficial copies of Modloader or forge because then when people download your mod it wont work for them.
Edit:
Unless they get the unoffcial version
Please do not distribute decompiled Minecraft classes. It's clearly stated in the terms of use for MCP. If you change Minecraft classes, you can distribute diffs with your changes.
It's also not showing much respect for Risugamis work if you release an unofficial update while he is working on the Modloader update. If you can't wait for him to update it properly, use one of the alternatives that were mentioned before.
About as disrespectful as people to be promoting a replacement mod in this very thread, no?
Just stopped in to say thanks for all the hard work Risugami.
Don't let the update pests get to you, the whole Better Than Wolves community is on your side.

I still have to wait until the modloader get updated then I can update my mods.
If you'd like to update them sooner, you can switch to Minecraft Forge: http://www.minecraftforge.net/
It is already updated officially to 1.4.2.

Mainly because some mods just don't use Forge.
