I´ve got a question: Is there a way to change the water level afterwards?
I created a map and as soon as I explored it ingame i realized that i made the water level too low so that the clouds are turning black when walking at sea level..
Yes, you can change the water level with the Flood tool. Left-click on the water to raise it, right-click to lower it.
But there's another thing you can do to get rid of those black clouds: check the "Superflat" checkbox on the Export screen. That will set the level to Superflat mode, in which Minecraft doesn't change the sky colour, fog, etc. when you get to very low altitudes.
One other drawback of such low levels is that Slimes will spawn on the surface though, and unfortunately there is nothing you can do about that (at least not without using a mod).
My god.. I'm so glad you continued on with World Painter Captain_Chaos. If I had any more +1's left I'd be plastering them all over this thread.
And it's fantastic that you are supporting the Higher Worlds made with Spoutcraft! I only recently even learned about it's Higher Worlds capabilities and have added it to my Higher Worlds thread. I will now add a reference to World Painter working with these Spoutcraft worlds. :smile.gif:
I love it except i don't like the default hill shapes too much. and the caverns brush has some bad chunk borders. but overall i do like it. continue the god work :smile.gif:
but is it possible to make it so you can change what block the pyramid is made of?
Not directly, but you can raise the pyramid and then just paint it over with one of the Terrain tools like any other part of the landscape. You can pick the solid square brush and zoom in a little to make it easier to paint within the lines, or you can just slap the terrain on and clean up the edges later manually in game.
Is there a way to change the height of the map after it has been started?
And this is by far my favorite mod i have found yet (although its not exactly a mod, haha)
If you already saved and exported it to play... if you hadn't done any in game changes, just reopen your saved world file in world painter and resume editing it.
If you did export it to minecraft and made in game edits. you can IMPORT the map back in and edit it, then merge it.
I downloaded the application and it said something about installing the program that installs the stuff (install4J). So I allow it to make changes to my computer, so it starts the setup, and then when it's done, everything closes completely. Then when I look in my downloads, I see world painter, and an "Error" written in notepad. So then I trying running WorldPainter again, and I click run then the whole thing disappears again.

You don't click on WorldPainter in your downloads folder to start it, it's in the Start menu just like any other program you install. Does it not start when you click on WorldPainter in your Start menu?

This is correct, and currently the only way to change the height of a map with WorldPainter. You can change the height of a WorldPainter world from the Edit menu.

While this is true in general, you cannot change the height this way! You can't merge a WorldPainter world with a Minecraft map that has a different height.
There is no way to change the height of an existing Minecraft map using WorldPainter. There may be external tools that can do it.
Edit: Jeb just announced that Minecraft 1.2 will have a new save format which will be 256 blocks high and that Minecraft will automatically convert existing maps to the new format (and thus the new height)! So if you want to go from 128 to 256 you can just wait for Minecraft 1.2, which will do it for you.

Luckily I write modular code. I'm about done... :wink.gif:
There isn't a version out yet which actually supports this format, right? It's the next weekly build if I understand it correctly.
Almost done!? Holy Chaos! You are good Sir. :smile.gif:
Correct. A standalone old to new World converter and its source code have been released by Jeb at mojang.com, but tomorrow's 12w07a snapshot dev build will be the first version of Minecraft to use it. And if all goes well v1.2. He's releasing this snapshot a little early this time, on Wed.

jeb also said he'd be releasing documentation regarding the new Anvil map format, so you shouldn't have too many problems with luck :smile.gif:
what i'm really looking forward to is the changes regarding biomes. biomes will now be stored within the save file, making them editable... finally, no more searching through 400 seeds to find one that kinda matches the island i build in worldpainter... soon i can just change the biome!! wooohoooo!!! at least, i hope you're looking at the idea Captain Chaos :smile.gif:
I just released version 0.5.1 of WorldPainter, in which the major new feature is:
Minecraft 1.2 map format support!
This version adds support for the new map format used from this week's weekly build (12w07a) onwards, and which will be used by Minecraft 1.2 when it comes out. To use it, make sure your world is 256 blocks high (by creating a new world with that height, or by changing the height of an existing world using the Edit -> Change height... menu entry), and then select "Minecraft 1.2" as the Map format on the Export screen.
Note that for now you can only export worlds of height 256 as Minecraft 1.2 worlds. If and when the various non-standard height mods are updated for Minecraft 1.2 I will modify WorldPainter to allow non-standard heights for Minecraft 1.2 worlds, although I may wait until Minecraft 1.2 is released to avoid having to chase many mod updates.
There is no support yet for painting the biomes, even though the new map format allows for this. Implementing that functionality is non-trivial so please be patient as it could be a while yet before I get to that. Please consider donating to make it worth my while to put more time into WorldPainter and finish this more quickly!
Note that the default water, landscape and cloud levels have not changed in Minecraft. There is more vertical room to build, but the default landscape is the same. In order to emulate this in WorldPainter, if you create a 256 block high world, the default water level remains at 62. You can change it of course, but be aware that if you change the default terrain level to be around 128 you will have clouds at ground level!
For now the default world height is still 128, and the default map format Minecraft 1.1. I will change the defaults when Minecraft 1.2 comes out.
Other changes
There have been some other changes as well:
The undo buffer is no longer thrown away to make room if WorldPainter is short on memory. This means you may need more memory for the same operations, but you will always be able to undo the operation.
The Flood tool now displays a dialog box if it takes longer than two seconds, allowing you to cancel the operation if you unintentionally clicked to flood a large area.
A progress dialog is now also displayed for calculating the biomes, which can take a long time for large maps.
You will be offered the update automatically when you next start WorldPainter, or you can download if from the first post. This is a large update so there could be bugs. Please let me know if you find any problems!

Could you elaborate on that a little? There should be no visible chunk borders in the caverns!
Thanks, glad to hear that! :smile.gif:

It will also be using a form of Cubic Chunks too instead of the Linear chunks that Minecraft has always used before.
Sounds like a huge update will be needed for all Map tools..
