Able to make mac version. Its also custom to show the minecraft log in another window. Currently it needs to be fixed to be able to store the mcp_data folder in the directory where the .app is stored. It supports 32-bit and 64-bit.
Following the last part, the actual app works on my 64-bit mac. It should work on a 32-bit mac, the app is quite big (approx 96 MB), but most of that is wxPython for logging the actual output of minecraft (soon will have seprate versions) as I like that. Also this is the source, requires wxPython and I have included the other components you will need.

Ok, I love the idea that you are getting with this but... Running Minecraft with Java Portable decreases the FPS by quite a large amount, Why?
1.) Because there a multiple components removed from java in the portable edition that stableize FPS in games.
2.) Because it has to run off of a flash drive. Running java from a flash drive can cause FPS decrease since the game has to read/write back and forth from a drive that may not have that high of Read/Write speeds.
Im not trying to say that it is a bad idea to make minecraft portable, but why not just use the host computers Java installation if it exists and then use the Java off of the flash drive if the host system does not contain Java? That is how I would do it I hope that my advice gives you some ideas on how to optimize it a bit

I can't thank you enough - this is absolutely fantastic. I've added a link to the OP and I've also sent you a PM with FTP details, which will allow you to update the redirect on my site.

This is a good idea but unfortunately users can't always rely on Java being up-to-date on other PCs, hence why I've prioritised Java Portable. I haven't personally noticed any performance differences and I'm actually pretty surprised you have. Decent flash drives should actually be faster in many operations than most hard disks.

I guess that you may have a point on Java not always being up-to-date on other PCs. And I would say that half of the people that use flash drives just buy a cheap one from Wal-Mart or a local store and don't go out and buy a high-speed drive, which is mainly why i brought that up. Still, if it works and Minecraft isn't constantly crashing/lagging making the game portable is a great idea

This is amazing. The hurdle I couldn't get over with my attempt at making a mac version was how to get it into a workable app.
I managed to get my 1.1 settings over for my server but I noticed it created a folder called 1.2.5. I assume it just creates this based on the latest version? I just chucked everything in there and it worked fine though.

I made my version be able to use many versions. I originally wanted to make it so I could use different versions of minecraft without confliction. The Mac version is not yet compatable with the windows version as the app data and your Mac .minecraft folders do not yet match up yet. Currently testing a version that will support both.NotTarts, the script has comparability to work with Windows and once I have skimmed the app it can be used for both platforms. Curentlly it is not compatable with the Windows version.
I download the minecraft portable zip file
Then I made a folder on my computer and put minecraftp.exe in it
When I clicked on minecraftp.exe it made the folder but the launcher didn't open
How do I get to the launcher?
Thanks Sooo Much! I'v been trying to get minecraft on my laptop which runs xubunu, Its been about a year now that I'v been trying many different ways to get java on this os sp i could at least run the luncher. But they all failed Until I download this client of minecraft potable and ran it with Wine! Thanks!
Is it possible to use MC Patcher with Minecraft Portable? and if you can, how would I do it? if not, what can I use to patch Minecraft Portable so that I can use an HD Texture Pack? Thank you for any help you can provide.
I've been working on a portable client for Minecraft for a while now. I still plan to update it and everything, but I feel like other could get more done that I could ever get done just by myself.

*There is a virus warning when trying to run the program. If you are just trying to look at the code, don't run the program or tell me there's a virus. All code is in the source folder. Simply right-click and open it with notepad.
When downloaded and extracted, it should be in the Other folder. Inside there the source folder should be there.

Certainly! As I've mentioned in the OP, all you need to do is drag the .exe version of the patcher onto minecraftp.exe and it should direct it to the correct. If that fails, I believe MCPatcher also has the option to choose a custom Minecraft directory.
Im new to the forums, and was just wondering, would mods still work on this? Am I right in thinking that this works just like the minecraft launcher, but just loads the .minecraft from a different place?
Thanks!
That's exactly right. Minecraft Portable just 'tricks' the Minecraft launcher into saving under a different directory.
I'm not entirely sure, but I wouldn't bet on it. It's designed to work exclusively with the original launcher and I don't know if it will function using anything else. Magic Launcher has a portable mode too, so you might consider using that as a replacement to Minecraft Portable, rather than a complement.
Uhhh... You just gave out the launcher for minecraft. This is exactly the reason why Notch doesn't want people to mess with the code, because then thousands get the game he worked so hard on for free. If you want the Halloween update, well, im gonna let you think about it.
actually, this is a recoded version of the launcher made to play from your usb, not the original launcher.
Hi there, thanks so much for this awesome app! I have a problem though, when I use the argument option in the config I get:
Error: Could not created the java virtual machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.
The arguments Im trying to put in are:
javaArgs = " -Xms512 -Xmx1024 "
if I remove the spaces between the quotes the program seems to remove them and then nothing at all happens. Not too sure how to use this as it doesnt seem to be documented?
Edit: Im using the normal Java for this and not a portable one and left the path as default, here is the log:

The quotes aren't needed, so it's alright if Minecraft Portable removes them automatically. I think your issue is that you haven't specified what amount of memory you're giving it. You've said 1024, but 1024 what? You need to add 'M' to the end to denote megabytes, like this:
Source: (Link Removed, can be found on first page) requires wxPython
Binary: (Link Removed, can be found on first page)
