ive been releasing test versions of my pack in incraments, along with a map i made specifically for testing my map with rooms divided by category. ive been sending it to people who posted on my thread and showed interest in thesting it through the pm system... to be honest, i was considering just putting the next testing release as a link in my thread, rather than having to send it through the inbox, because so many people are showing interest in testing. would that help my application, or were you referring to a full, usable release? because that could be awhile.

How to join/criterion
-You must have contributed AND POSTED a downloadable compilation of works of your artwork. Please note the stipulations above regarding WIP's. Please include a link to your work in the application comment.
As long as it's a publicly available download it should be fine
WIPs are fine, as the OP says:
WIP are acceptable but if you have only a few textures done, we may want to wait until you have more completed.
"****ed up Happy Land"
Based around the urban area? Nobody else think somebody might find it a little insulting?
I don't see it would be, it is not talking about any -specific- urban area, or any group of urban areas, it's not insulting someone's home city, if it's "****ed up" it's a fictional city where things are like this way, a twisted version of reality. Not actual reality.

well, in all honesty, im going for a stereotypical upstanding 1950s style neighborhood, like the one you see in fallout 3 in that creepy simulation... if you've not played it, well... basically i just want to make it look like an overly nice neighborhood with dark secrets.
maybe i meant suburban, i think i may be misusing the term.
now that i think of it, urban implies a more commercial/business environment, such as new york city? not what im going for.

great. ill leave a post here once i finish and upload the next installment. shouldn't be too long, as the next bit is just the nether textures + obsidian, and ive already done some of it.

tranquility lane INSPIRED, not quite themed.
i also was a bit inspired by Andale... you remember that im sure? the small town in fallout 3 that is full of oddly cheerful people with basements full of corpses in refridgerators?
not completely inspired by this of course, and certanly not fallout themed, but the concept is what i like.
once we're both a bit less busy, since we are both working on projects atm, we can get some ideas together.

it looks odd without the solid chunks moving. Also maybe making it a little slower will make it look more thick and molten. it looks pretty fluid as is.
lava is hard... this is what i came up with, no way im actually going to use it.
i was going for molten gold, i ended up with a pool of melted leopards.
any advice on how to make proper lava?
What resolution is that? I have a few techniques I use in making animations, and I like to think that my synthetic reality's lava is the most realistic one around

molten metal. that was *supposed* to be molten gold with bits of charred debris in it, but... it looks more like a leopard melted.
i realize the fact that it turns into cobble wouldn't make sense, but in this pack im focusing on aesthetic quality, rather than making things make sense (but i am filling holes in the story wherever i can, for example... my explosive device will have the initials TNT, and the name written on it, but it wont stand for trinitrotoluene)
anyway, if it helps identify the flaw in my method, here's how i got this result (the best i can remember) i used gimp by the way.
1. created some solid noise (cloud variety)
2. distorted it with the iwarp tool.
3. offset the layer x2/y2
4. smoothed and cloned over seams
5. evened out the pattern from smoothed over seams.
6. used curves to get the base color yellowish.
7. added some random, but carefully placed (for shading purposes) brush strokes of greens, deep red, and brown, blurred, and set to overlay, and merged.
8. animated it, and drew some rocks/charcoal-y looking bits of debris to put on top.

yep, so that's what i did...
Hmm
Well if you don't mind I could try my hand at making something like that for you

well, i appreciate the offer, but being that this is my first texture pack, id like to keep the textures completely my own.
ill be open to collaborations, big or small on future ones, but not this one.
the problem for me is i cant quite understand what molten gold would look like.
ive tried googling it, and all i come up with are either pictures of it in the dark, so it glows orange, or badly rendered gold colored liquid made digitally. what im going for is what molten gold would look like seen in bright light (so you can't see the glow) its hard to find actual photos of it, but it makes sense, being that gold is so rare and expensive.
however, if you have any advice on how to make the top bit of the lava, floating debris and such, that's what im actually having the most trouble with.
Molten gold is so hot that you will still see the red glow during daylight, which is why there are no pictures otherwise.
Here is a daytime picture of molten gold being poored into a mold.
(via ABC News)
See how bright it is in the room and the gold is still bright yellow?
hm... i see. i suppose it depends on their melting point. lead is silver in daylight when molten.
but then, this is an indoor picture taken with florescent light. the gold may very well be visible if seen in direct sunlight (or perhaps with light through a skylight as industrial buildings usually have)
you see, the difference you might perceive between daylight, and indoor lighting may seem to be marginal, but in reality, daylight is usually about 30 to 50 times brighter than average indoor lighting. i know this because i do a lot of photography, and my camera is able to measure lighting levels.
but i suppose, i ought to give up on gold, as it might not quite be doable...
but how about a nice hot pit of mercury? its certainly more menacing than gold. it's a shiny liquid metal.
I know this. Im also a photographer (been doing work professionally for over 6 years) I know all about lighting and can ramble off lighting ratios in my sleep
What im saying is that it will still look nothing like gold in its molten stage. It will still be glowing red in the bright sunlight. The melting temperatures of gold are 1945 degrees Fahrenheit for 18 karat and 1550 degrees for 24 karat.
Mercury would be pretty cool. i always used to trip out as a child because mercury is a solid, but tooks like a liquid. lol
