And didn't you realize that Paint.NET doesn't allows .PNG textures? That's why i tell everyone to NOT use Paint.NET...
Get Photoshop CS6 and GIMP...
Wait, what?
Paint.NET DOES support .PNGs (including those with full and partial transparency)
You just need to make sure you are saving them correctly, in this case saving them as .PNG 32bit, not 24bit. (or just keep the setting on auto-detect).

Sorry, I am a rookie when it comes to textures but, I was making one and now with this new update, it seems that instead of using one .png image called terrain in the texture pack folder, we have one individual .png image for each block and item? So, do I have replace each individual one with the blocks I want or can I do it differently? I am really misinformed.
Now about custom terrain animations, I had a few of them (like animated furnace, animated diamond blocks and etc.), what do I do now to integrate them into the game with this latest patch?
Thanks in advance!
Quoting myself because I'm still waiting for answers!

I don't know what that poster was talking about, I use paint.net and it supports png files and is awesome with transparency..

Ok, yeah, this thread REALLY needs updating for your reason alone. 1.5 changed it so that every block and item now has its own texture file. It's a lot more tedious, but terrain.png was going to run out of space at some point. Anyways, yes you have to replace each file with your edited files, but to save a LOT of time, you can make all the Pre-1.5 textures inside of terrain.png and items.png, and then you can use THIS handy texture pack conversion tool! That way, you only have to do the new textures in the new way.
As for animated textures, again, do them in the old way and use the converter to convert them to the new format.

This guide is quite helpful for me. I just need to finish reading all the pages for help on choosing colors for my texture pack... That's always hard for me.

That is what I was wondering about. I am glad I don't have to convert every block from my terrain.png with that thing. What a handy tool!
Thanks a lot for your reply. I just resumed working on my texture.
Another question, and last one. This time around it seems we don't need MCpatcher to use animated custom terrain blocks? Very nice.
When ever I use my texture pack, water, fire and lava come out as Missing texture. and before I get all of these "Use MC-patcher noob!" answers, It's 16x16, I have my water, fire and lava textures and I tried using the MC patcher and I have not textured them yet, so can someone plz help?
this is most likely a noob question though.
So if have a question feel free not to answer it may be stupid but what programs can increase an image without blurring. I have no money and so i cant use Photoshop i have gimp but its not working right So if anyone knows of a program that can do iit without blurring that's free that would be great thanks.
I have a lot of noob/dumb/stupid questions myself, but if your increasing the textures to make your own, then why does it matter if it's blurry before you change it? when you change it for a pack that puts the extra pixels to use, would it still be blurry?
Guys I just found out you can use the same method to open the minecraft.jar as Mac on Windows! You don't need to download anything like WinRAR or 7zip!
Copy your minecraft.jar
Paste it somewhere else.
Rename it to minecraft.zip
A popup should appear and say 'If you change a file name extension, the file might become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?' click 'Yes'
Double click the minecraft.zip
And you have the default textures. No 7zip or WinRAR required!!
The old custom animations feature from MCPatcher still works, though it's significantly more complicated than the default animations. Read the Texture Artist's Guide to MCPatcher's Features and MCPatcher's thread for infomation on how to make it work.
While this tutorial is excellent and it provides just about everything one could ever need to know, I'd like to suggest the addition of DTDSphere's restitched textures "terrain.png", seeing how the old vanilla terrain.png is no longer in use.
You know, name/explain each individual block on the restitched textures png just like it was done with the old terrain.png.
It doesn't seem likely. Steel hasn't expressed much interest, and it was incomplete even before the 1.5 update. Unless someone else (would probably have to be a moderator, or someone else who can edit other poeple's topics) picks it up, it'll probably stay in its current state.
while it makes me really really sad to think that this thread/idea will probably die as it is and it won't be updated/expanded anymore, at least the missing pics in the OP should get re-uploaded.
Because I know some stuff(but not alot) about making Textures, I'll try & make some post here that Steelfeathers can put up on the OP or in the comment/section it's suppose to be in. Maybe first do CTM if he would like me to post that

The moon and sun textures were moved to Environment.
