im trying to make the minecraft mobs in solidworks, but some of the textures are a bit confusing! thank you very much, i would not be able to make some of them without this.
I'm trying to make skins for the armors using the double layers, but the 2nd layer only covers the chest and legs and not the head and arms. The outer layer is the plates and the inner layer is supposed to be the dark part under the armour. Is there any way I can fix the 2nd layer ?
I'm not sure what you're talking about. The armor_1 shows up everywhere, and is designed for the head, torso, and boots. The armor_2 files are for legs only. There's not much that can be done about this since that's the way armor is supposed to work.
If only i'd found this topic before today, would've saved a lot of work...

Good spot with the Donkey part. The reins and bridle move around depending on which horse skin it is too, so there's some additional options I didn't figure out yet.
oh splendid the first default mob whose eyes you can't see when looking at it head on, and the first default mob with a tilted head. Making an icon for it for the minimap (or rather constructing one on the fly from the current texture pack) is going to be a massive PITA unless I give up on having a consistent angle with the rest of the mob icons

Mother of god, that's almost as convoluted as the dragon if not more.
The Ender Dragon has 21 unique surfaces to texture. Horses have 34. So yea, this mob is officially harder to texture than the freaking final boss of the game.
I hate horses in Minecraft. I keep hoping they'll dumb them down before the official release, but I doubt it. They went the lazy way, and they're sticking to it.

Why would you want them to be dumbed down? They're awesome. More features > generic "atmosphere" mob.

Stand a horse next to a cow and tell me they look like they belong in the same game. I dare you. I double dog dare you. They won't because their textures are completely different levels of detail, their degrees of articulation are miles apart, and their animation quality is radically different!
Dropping the quality of the horses would fix this, and it would do so easier than the alternative.
Now look, and I'll say this for the record, if they updated every other mob in the game (including the player model) to be in line with the horses I would be fine with that. I would happily go back, re-texture all of the mobs, and bring everything up to speed with the new standard. And I'd do it with the biggest grin on my face you have ever seen.
But the fact that the art creep has become so blatant, and they will never go back and bring everything up the the current standards, really makes the entire visual aspect of Minecraft seem increasingly uneven and jarring. If I didn't already have a texture pack, I would make or use one just to minimize the escalating problem with the default graphics. Just so that the geometry spike of the horses was the worst thing on screen.
OK, sorry, I'll stop now. Rant over. Everyone, resume what you were doing.

Man, thanks to you I just made some really satisfying mob skins. I got sick of those weird vanilla villagers and have been itching to nail the process down. I've almost got them memorized now. I've also been dying to edit the Ender Dragon but it was naturally too confusing to do so without brutal trial and error. Thanks for making this a ton easier.
EDIT: I would like to note one problem. I actually followed your template guide and in some cases the textures actually appeared reversed or in the wrong positions. Could you update this?
hello, I am wondering if you could add a template for the horse armors :s
especialy when I looked at the one from Misa´s Realistic Texture pack, she has some additional part on there as well, so you could? add those parts to the template as well... well... if you are in for it.
The horse armor follows the same layout as the horse itself. Exactly the same. If there's a bit outside of those areas, it may be for texture or pallet sampling, which is a common practice especially in higher-res packs.
hello, check this out!
Upload it to a hosting site (I suggest imgur.com) and then use the image tool in the editor to put it here.
There's also a sticky thread that shows how to post images that will give a better explanation.

This is something I've been beginning to wonder myself.
Hopefully really soon.

Yes, it is taller, but the template is exactly the same. For sure.

2. Could you please do a template of the Mine Little Pony skins? Thx
