Don't worry, mate. I've never released a texture pack, and I've been here a while. I never had the motivation to complete one. I mainly just browse around giving feedback and helping those I can. We all start somewhere, man. The first thing I ever edited was a sprite from Fire Emblem 8, and all I did was give the character a scythe. I'd say that everyone started by editing default, gradually shifting away as they gain skill and experience. Don't be discouraged by people, they're not perfect themselves, and probably started out like you. Think of it as tough love. You do something your parent/guardian doesn't like, and they punish you so that you don't do it again. Some people don't like default edits because it truly doesn't show who you are and what you can do. We've all seen Mojang's textures. We want a change from them, that's why we have texture packs.
Also, I hate the 'Don't post your first texture pack' thing. Why not? Some people's first texture pack might be an amazing, mind blowing work of art, yet you say not to release it? Man, I might just go make my first texture pack and release it.
second part is a little sketchy in how many people have an amazing first pack. but the first part is just what ive had in my mind this entire time. i'm not gunna leave because someone doesn't like a fresh start, thank you
By posting your first texturepack, you've gotten yourself a ton of complainers. Do you understand?
I said harsh feedback, not harsh flaming. It might hurt your feelings but it doesn't hurt your creativity.
I could go right out and say "You are bad, you can't texture, leave now" but I didn't. Instead, I choose to try and help you become better and improve.
It's not about what you can and cannot do, it's about what people want to see, do you really think they want to see this?
I was trying to give you some nice and helpful advice, but since you can't take it right, you're not ready for this community.
despite popular request, i will continue posting new textures.. updates include a completely new smooth stone, and a color blender applied to the coal ore. based on legit reviews, and not trollers, i will either continue to apply the blender to the rest of the ores, or try out a different blender. also, i have made MY OWN background for the smooth stone.use this one in your minecraft to test the pack:
use this one to see the blending in the file without going into mc(check top right corner where there would normally be purple)
!!!DO NOT USE THIS ONE AS YOUR TERRAIN FILE!!!the crafting bench and emerald blocks have been covered in the texture so you can see the blending in your favorite photo viewing program:
view this one to see smooth stone background on coal ore, check upper right to see side-side:
choice a: i like the blending
choice b: i like the blending but would prefer the smooth stone background to be lighter
choice c:i like having a constant background for ores and stone(pic 3 ^^)

Have you tried these in-game at all? The stone looks like it's really highly contrasted and dark, it might not look that great in-game at all...
Always test your packs in-game, it may look fine on that little picture but there's a big difference between seeing it there and seeing it in your game world.
I would lower the contrast then try it out in minecraft, at the moment the shapes and contrast make it look like it could give me a headache from looking at it from far away/too long.

thank you for that, i will take that into great consideration.... however, my minecraft account was hacked last week and i wont have the money for a new one until the end of the month. i may also note that these textures are entirely free hand and there isnt much that i know about headaches or reducing contrast, i suppose i could try an go over all the textures and reduce the overall brightness, but beyond that... i may need a little hint of advice on doing so... :/

Ahh, sorry to hear that, really sucks. :/
Anywho, what I meant with reducing contrast is basically making it so that instead of that really dark background and the very bright lines running through it, make the line and background a more similar brightness, that will stop the line standing out so much when you look at a big wall of stone. I was saying it could cause headaches because all those white lines on the stone would probably make people a little dizzy or hurt their eyes when they are running around in the gameworld because the line will be extremely obvious and couple that fact with the person moving their screen around (because they're likely to be moving, not just looking at one spot) it could look really confusing and hurt their head a little.
Finally you take the advice of someone Anyway, as has been said by Sheep here it's quite high in contrast and I also think that the textures are a bit bucketfilly. Just my opinion, I could give you a quick example of a less simple(but still simple) stone texture?
o saw the stone texture you did in one of the forum threads you started, if that isnt the one, feel free to put it up. chances are, i wont be able to use it because the theme wont match but i can always learn new things from other peoples works
im sorry for not posting anything, ive been checking often, but no one has replied. i wasnt able to work on the pack today, :/, because my business has been moving and ive been working from EARLY in the morning until LATE at night. if my laptop wouldnt have derped so hard during lunch, i couldve gotten something new for you guys to criticize me for, but not all files are inter-os capable, sooo, have something for tomorrow hopefully, im so pessimistic...

thank you for the clarification, and in response, the new and improved backgrounds for stone and coal (and iron, gold, etc., if you like it):
doing some work finally, moving has been a pain. just finished doing a background for ores/stone so its not quite as plain. just finished applying it to the rest, thank you paint.net transparency. no mo picks until i get "ilikegaming782's" color re-dux for the ore outlines. i just needed a reason to work on them. see yah in a few
Hey, as a special favor I have redone the ores, stone, and mineral blocks. Feel free to use this.
thanks for the idea, but i was going to do a complete re-duex over the weekend, i will keep this for reference though.i just finished a background that wasnt used in this for the ores so it might not have seen much spotlight.but it was still a pretty good texture.
JUST, as i said, i have started tedious work fine tuning the gentle colors darkness's. i have found the perfect shade of lack to reduce contrast on the ores and am in deep thought trying not to screw up. texturing is something you have to get used to, and despite what most people say, i am going to continue.
The outline is still to dark -.- You see Zardiums up there? You see how the "outline" is the same general color as the middle of the ore? That's what you want to do to make it look decent.
but the contrast between the ore outlines and smooth stone or any other block would be too much. because my ore colors touch the sides, they separate the colors of that block to the adjacent ones, normal ores are dont touch the sides, so they dont have that problem, and as far as im concerned black is the least contrasting color to date, i can make the outlines lighter, but they would blend with the background and it would cause irregularities, and when used over a large area, would cause MASSIVE headaches.
