Started this thread for somewhere we can discuss how these two great mods can work together and a place people can share information on the subject.
We all know that they both offer some great enhancements to the visuals of Minecraft and our work as artists.
OPTIFINE gives more to the performance/visual side with FPS settings, in-game texture pack switching, multiple tweaks and settings all from in game menus and shader support for GL and SEUS.

MCPATCHER, has a great array of creative options which allow texture artists to do so much more. Advanced CTM features, Sky boxes to name a few.
Both of these working together is just a power house of a mod i think we all would agree
There are people already using the two together to great effect, a thread was started before with people sharing how they got them working but it looks to be deleted/moved. I think this is relevant to the texture discussion forum as its about how we can get even more creative with our texture packs.

I don't see why the two authors don't collaborate...
Have either stated that they do not wish to combine?
I have used MCPatcher in the past, but now that MC is going the route of HD I will be discontinuing (I know, I really liked CTM). Maybe, if the two join forces, I would be interested in playing with the mods.
As it stands, neither do what I want, and while both get close. It's just too much hassle, I want to do art not mess with modifications

If its only HD textures you need then yes, the new MC api will cover the basics.
If you want advanced lighting and advanced CTM (like me) then its just what's needed.
I've had no hassle running either, they always perform but running together would be awesome!

I did love me the CTM, not to mention the fonts and what not.
Really the only way to get the two to run together seamlessly, is if the two authors get together is some fashion. This thread would better be served if the mod authors were made aware of its existence (just my opinion)
Like I said, I am up for using them if they combine forces. I just don't want to do the leg work, I am already hands full with texturing. Also, I am not against paying for a proper modification. (Just so my post doesn't seem all "entitled" )
I made a rudimentary bump map a while ago for my pack to test it and had to use another shader in the OF mod to get it to work - i guess that was a SEUS shader?
As far as i know SEUS "SONIC ETHERS UNBELIEVABLE SHADERS" is the only mod with bump mapping.
As far as i know SEUS "SONIC ETHERS UNBELIEVABLE SHADERS" is the only mod with bump mapping.
That is good news
Actually, when discussing the subject, Doom brought it to my attention that there is apparently a different GLSL Shaders Mod that actually has more bump/specular/parallax mapping features including mapping on mobs and such.
Edit: I'm definitely not a modder at all, but has anyone tried finding the conflicting class files, the files that both programs use, and combining them by putting the text from one into the file from the other program along with the other program's text?
I have no idea if it would work, do nothing, or completely crash Minecraft, but that's a thought I've had.

Ahh, i have noticed on SEUS facebook page that Danixtro and Cody are working together more. It maybe that they have been swapping code, or someone else has written their own for GLSL
Well i don't know when it happened and can't find a update on the Optifine mod thread but the author looks to have improved its CTM and it can provide more than just basic CTM, ie the ctm.png file.
Anyone using Optifine's advanced ctm features please say what you have successfully working in game and a screen shot would good too.
This is Optifine 1.4.6 U A3 running multi face Vertical CTM
I had figured out a configuration that works very well - at least for me.
These are my current settings for MCPatcher and Minecraft to enable most of MCPatcher's better features while getting Optifines speed bump and settings:
Important is to use default chunk loading to get better glass working.
And this is what i use for shaders (i use the other, needed Optifine here and the GLSL shaders OF mod, i don't know if it works with other shader mods):
The last version of the shader reallyy surprised me, i get 15 to 20 FPS with my old 2007 iMac...
I've tried this, but for some reason it always takes textures from terrain.png for advanced CTM. It's really kinda annoying >:[
Hmmm weird... where do you have your CTM? In the ctm folder or in the "default" CTM.png in the main folder? Connected Textures is on in MCPatcher and off in the Minecraft settings?
I have my advanced CTM files in a /ctm directory. Patcher settings are exactly as you had posted.
Better Skies! I really love it, i don't want to miss my slowly moving cloud banks at the horizon.
This!
This is/was the only reason I used a mod with Minecraft. (MCPatcher that is)
Pretty much every other texture is malleable, except that sky.
Topic wise, I stick to my guns. The only way this threads premise can be achieved fully is if the authors of the mods work together.
So again, I ask, has anyone brought this to their attention? Has anyone linked this thread to them so they know that us consumers are interested in their collaborating?
That's the key to getting this thread to come to fruition, otherwise it's just wishful talking. And finding glitches that allow for smooth running of the two mods.

I haven't as yet but I will contact them both.
I don't have high hopes on a collaboration as the two have been running along side each long enough to know what they both bring to the table and nothing has happened to date.
I'll settle for running 2 mods if it gives me the key features i want like Meringue seems to have found a happy medium that suits his creative needs.
Hm, I think I found the culprit. Seems that when I turn on anti-aliasing the CTM goes all wonky. Very strange (and rather annoying - Minecraft looks so sexy with aa) but now that I have it off, CTM and better glass works just fine
On another note, I wonder if there's an fxaa injector or similar that'll work for minecraft...
Meringue, it works awesomely, the only thing I had to do was remove the ctm.png from Optifine to prevent the panes from getting botched. To be quite honest, you should post this marvel up on PMC and I'll be happy to link this!
I personally have not discovered a reason beyond semi-transparent glass to use MCPatcher over Optifine.
You can also use MCPatcher for the weekly snapshots, which you can't with Optifine, & the CTM for MCPatch is MUCH better than Optifine. & so is the scaling of textures with different sizes/resolution.
We all know that they both offer some great enhancements to the visuals of Minecraft and our work as artists.

Seeing shaders and Skyboxes in your screen shot makes me very happy
EDIT, this was meant to be in the above post....doh

Just need that CTM improved now.
