I downloaded a map that lags me a lot. Very low FPS rate. My regular gameplay is so-so laggy. It has a fast FPS rate, but it will lag and put two blocks down, then break two blocks, which is annoying. Only sometimes though.
I read the 25 ways to improve gameplay speed topic and I want to try using a texture pack that makes it so that my computer doesn't have to render as many pixels. I don't want it looking terrible though. I've never used a texture pack before, I'm using the current one. Just something simple that looks nice and clean.
Does anyone have an idea of what I could use? I would like pictures and a download link if possible, unless someone knows of a website that they could link me to that will provide pictures and downloads for different textures.
Okay I got OptiFine light and it improved the frame rate somewhat. I'm still having lag issues with placing a block and it placing two, or deleting a block and it deleting two. That is problematic in creative mode.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a nice looking texture pack with little animation? Like this...
I guess those are both HD ones. I like the ones with cool water textures. Do I need an HD version of OptiFine to run the HD texture packs? Will OptiFine for HD texture packs be as fast as OptiFine light to increase frame rate?
There's a ton of good packs out there, and a lot of those pack designers happen to be regulars in this forum. I'd poke around some topics and click on pretty sigs
Taiine's Glendale, SycloneSJS's Chroma Hills, corner_g has several good packs... There's also the famously popualr Misa, Sphax and what not. There's about a million more. Those just popped up off the top of my head.
Mine only has custom animations for the default animations that you would have anyway with minecraft and is 16x. With optifine you can enjoy the CTM as well it has.
as for the lag with placing and breaking blocks..
Sadly that is likely just something that will happen reguardless of the texturepack you use. I had that issue on my old laptop and it just just due to the system not being that good, even with optifine and a higher fps it still had place/break lag, and thats just your system, not the packs you use.
Thanks guys! I found a website and got a few texture packs, but one didn't work right. It was LegoPak... The blocks didn't change, just the interface. Kinda annoying because I was excited for that one. The rest were awesome.
I tried a 32x32 pack and it didn't work out too well. Slow even with OptiFine. Is OptiFine light the best for boosting framerate, or should I download another version of OptiFine for 1.5.1?

Ugh, darn.... Okay I guess I'll have to live with it.
The lego pack was likely not up to date. As of 1.5 the format for block/item textures has changed, so any pack that isn't updated will end up showing default textures.
I have had better luck using optifine standard or ultra. I don't know which will be better for you, seeing as I have a pretty good system. You might want to consider getting a RAM upgrade, they come pretty cheap and can make a huge difference.

Do they provide faster FPS than OptiFine Light? I have a 3.00 GB ram with a 64 bit operating system. Is that low? TBH I probably won't upgrade my ram just to play games. I would be interested in getting the best version of OptiFine for my computer to run Minecraft, however.
Yeah thats low. Standard is 4gigs and thats what my old lappy has. Now with my desktop I have 8 and minecraft runs smooth.
Ram is dirt cheep. You can get 2 4gig sticks for about $15 if that depending on the type of ram your system uses.
Yes, you just have to go in and see what kind of ram you have. Sadly not all computers use the same brand or kind of ram, so you have to go in and look at what you have, and also how many slots you have. Some computers only have two slots for ram, so you'd be replacing your existing one.

Some of the 'el cheapo computers (Wal mart $300 special) only have 1 slot. That's how my grandparent's little web/email-only desktop is.

Thanks very much!
This is the wrong forum by the way
I said I wanted to try texture packs... And I thought this was the texture pack forum?
All 16x Packs below are okay.
Just install Optifine and set everything to their lowest possible settings.
I may be missing something, but I don't see ant list of 16x packs... D:
But the topic got moved now, so you're in the right place.
As for packs that cut back on lag. All packs, reguardless of detail that are of the same size will all have the same amount of lag.
A 16x pack of a solid color will have as much lag as a 16x pack with lots of details. Same with 32x, 64x etc packs.
The only thing now that may cause more lag is if a pack has a lot of animation files or not.
If you want one that don't render so many pixels, look for an 8x pack. There's not to many of them however.
Other than that instal Optifine, it can help cut back on lag.
What i meant was, every 16x pack to exist will be effective.
If you don't like the packs here then you'll have to stay with the Default.

I suggest just poking around and clicking on sigs
