I'm looking for an experienced texture pack creator that would be willing to be my mentor for a project. I'm doing my High School Senior Project on pixel art and graphics, and I'm planning on working on a Minecraft texture pack as my product. I'm required to have a mentor, so I'm turning here in hopes of finding someone to help me get started and learn the ropes.

While I'm not the greatest texture artist, i can recommend two things.
Firstly is to ask around the TAU thread, maybe they can help.
Secondly is this: http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299
Peytonisgreat showed me this to try and help me improve.
Maybe it can help you, 'cause it isn't for me
Use the tutorial Visual_Argonian showed you, it has everything you will ever need to know. As for the mentor thing, well, I would do some help, but I believe that your mentor has to be over 18, and I am only 14

The official Bluebird continuation is underway! Please come and help keep the pack alive!

Ah, you are correct, I believe my mentor must be over 18.
It makes me feel speshul to be self taught....oh wait, i'm helpless...
Even so, not as special as a 12 year old that was amazing at programming and self-taught. He was still at the age where he got pissed all the time-- like the people that make bucket-fills and rage-quit the internet because someone said something bad about it.
Hrmm... I haven't talked to him too much lately.

Santiago3 might help, but I'm sure he's busy too. You could try, though. (I hope he doesn't get mads at me for suggesting him :c)
...
Just, try not to end up in PMC. I'm not sure how many people over 18 you'd find there, but it's probably not that great a place for finding mentors.
Depending on the time commitment, I might be willing to help you out. I'm busy and not around all that much, but my other obligations have lessened pretty significantly in recent weeks so I might have time.
I'd like to know what would be required of me before signing up, however. I'd also like to see some examples of textures you've started on so I know if you're going to me worth my time to mentor. No offense, but I'm not going to try teaching someone with zero ability again.*
From what my teachers have told me, my mentor basically must have a basic knowledge of the field of my choice and help guide through the process and creation of the final product. It can all be done online through PM's here if needed, and it is really as simple as giving advice of critique about the process and the product.
I have a bit of experience in pixel art, but I chose it mainly because it's something I wanted to learn more about. Our project required us to pick something we aren't entirely experienced it. I have pretty good experience in normal arts, but pixel art is semi-new to me. Doing a Minecraft Texture Pack (or at least part of one) was an idea my teacher and myself had. I'll admit I have no experience in making texture packs, but after extracting some textures it seems that it would be not too hard.

Let me see what you've gotten done so far, then, and if it's any good I'll probably agree.
And yes, I'll prefer communication via a private conversation. I generally check the forum once every day or two, and can usually take the time to write up a critique or bit of advice. Hopefully that will be sufficient for you and your teacher.
Edit: Since it's been nearly a month since this post and you haven't replied I'm going to assume that you are not sufficiently interested and, as such, I'm withdrawing my offer.

That really is amazing; it's like music lessons now

*(No Urdothor, I'm not talking about you.)
