I have recently been wanting to start a new texture pack, as I lost inspiration for my older WIP, and I got more into pixel art. So one day, last week, I started playing with different resolutions and color palettes. I soon realized that 32x and above was a bit beyond my pixel art capabilities, and in 16x or lower, I felt like I couldn't get enough detail in that small space, so I decided on 24x. I've been working on the textures for about a week now, and I have 14 in total (Including greyscale grass and sidegrass). I was very much inspired by peytonisgreat (Bluebird), Steelfeathers (Iridescent dreams and her new, beautiful 64x Cartoon/RPG pack, (please continue it!)), and Levaunt (Derivation).
The Textures
Here's what I have so far (Will be updated every once in a while when I feel like it )
Screenshots
Dirt, Sidegrass, and Planks Stone Bricks (Normal, cracked, mossy), Stone, Ores (Iron, coal, gold), and Cobblestone
Personal dislikes/issues:
- Coal ore needs more depth
- Iron ore needs more contrast
- Grass has weird tiling when tiled in large areas
Constructive criticism and feedback welcome and appreciated!
That looks fantastic! The only thing I don't like are the roots in the side dirt, they seem really odd.
Edit: I is inspiration
Thank you very very much, this means a lot coming from you. The roots are kinda my favorite part of the side grass, but I see why you might not like it.
@Edit: Yes you is
Awesome. The grass tiles fine, but the ore needs embedding.
Thank you for your feedback!
From farther away you can see a line pattern in the blades of grass, I'll fix it soon if I get around to it. I tried to make the ores look embedded as much as I could with the palette I had, but it ended up not looking so great.
I like it, i really dig that style.
However, the ores need to be pronounced more, they just blend in too much, try adding more shadows/embedding around them.
The stone, stone brick and cobble need some brightness/color variation.
I do have to say, your stone texture looks more like round cobblestone than natural stone, though. The lighting isn't right for natural stone, I don't think.
Looks good!
Though I'm confused... what resolution is is actually 32x, or does MCPatcher have support for unorthodox resolutions?
If it's 32x, does that mean not all the pixels are equal?

You can make any resolution you want. 17x17, 24x24, 30x30, so long as it doesn't go past Minecraft's actual resolution.

I will work a bit more on the ores next time I work on textures. Brightness/color variation would end up being very drastic and would not look good, because I'm using a limited palette. It only has so many shades of each color.

EDIT: You could maybe name it Midgrounds.
Like I said before, there aren't really enough shades of each color to have natural looking shading.
Also, cool name, but could you please explain it?

Thank you for the compliment! I think MCPatcher either scales up the textures or just keeps them as is somehow.

I understand that, but I've always had one problem with that kind of shading on stone. It's just flat... flat... flat... WOAH NOW IT'S ALL SHINY AND FACING A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT DIRECTION, BETTER WATCH OUT.
Midgrounds, as in the middle grounds between 16x and 32x.

I don't really know how to fix that, dithering it too much would just look bad.
Ah, the name makes sense now, I like it.
Next time, make your own palette. It usually looks better.
I found out that I'm horrible at making my own palette, the colors end up looking really bad together. I really like this one, I use it for almost everything.

...But that's just my opinion.
My DeviantART, requests welcome.

Just be sure not to let any invisible space go through on the bed.
Consider me interested for making a 24x pack, it's evenly divisible by 2, and that's all I need. Not to mention it's divisible by 3.

It won't be released for a long time, I'm not good at making textures very quickly at all.

There are in game screenshots in a spoiler at the bottom of the OP. I fully encourage you to make a 24x pack, it's very fun to play around with.

Also, 257x pack for the win! Or maybe a 7x pack...
Here's the palette I used, I added one or two colors for the stone and grass, they're not on here.
Next time, make your own palette. It usually looks better.
