Hello there. I've been making some packs, and I just started one from scratch with a "smooth" feel to it. Not simple, bucket-fill, but smooth. So here are is what I've done so far:
Note, these were resized to be seeable. They are really 16x. In order, Grass, Smooth-Stone, Dirt, Side-Grass.
I'm looking for constructive feedback, so please tell me what you think. If you like it (or dont like it), please post as to why you don't in your reply.
Not bad. Not bad at all.
Although I do suggest you change the stone texture if you're going for smooth. I looks like there's rocks sticking out of it.
Other than that it looks good.

Having only three shades makes it look jagged. Also, they are all so similar that it looks like a simple pack, but you're just in denial and refuse to believe so.

Than maybe that's the style I should go for... Jagged or Sticking-out.
I agree with Side_Salad, those are simple textures. Nothing to be ashamed of though.
There's little variation between them, the contrast should be different for each of them if you want to keep them the same. Side grass also needs a shadow.

Thanks for actually giving me a suggestion. I'll try my best!
Hey, so I tried out with 32x plank, and this is the outcome:
Note: This image was resized to be seeable.
I know, kind of simple, but it's a start, right?
Looks very bright. Are the little lines on the edge supposed to be nails? I personally think there's too much planks in that one block. But it's a good start. What editing program do you use?

Yes, just random patches of darker and lighter tones of gray. Just make sure there's no tilling errors. Will do
To add noise to an image, go to Effects>Noise>Add Noise in paint.net and make sure to adjust the settings to your liking
See how much better the block looks below, with some noise added?
It may not look like much, but the addition of a little more detail and a more well definied metal shine makes a huge difference.

Thanks! Any suggestions on the stone, then?
"Smooth" =/= less shades of color.

Talk to the hand
Thanks

...But that's just my opinion.

The stone could be just a smooth wall of rock or a wall of rocks.
Smooth wall of rock like a few different colors here and there?

The following is true, the former is false.
It's ok, but add some shading. And that side border is a bit thin for a 32x texture. Always try out your textures ingame.
