curious - what should be done with areas protected by worldguard, owned by people that either quit or havent been on for a while? sell them? tear down? leave as is for anyone to claim?
I hadn't. I'd been away for the last couple of months, didn't have much time for minecraft due to Uni, and logged back on today to find my base vandalised in parts (mostly just holes in walls to bypass protected doors).
Even worse though, someone either removed the protections I placed on my region (or it lapsed when Worldguard was removed) and has now placed their own restrictions on the chests, furnaces and the blocks surrounding my base. So I can't access my own stockpiles of materials (diamonds, iron, gold, redstone etc) and they're probably stolen anyway so I can deal with that. But I can't repair the vandalism, or use my own base's facilities anymore (like my storage room, kitchen, personal bedroom) because the area has been restricted (probably with the new plugin).
Can anyone help me by removing the restrictions that have been placed? If the restrictions are not removed, then I'm done with this server - I put a lot of effort into my base (its 100% underwater & underground) and I'm not prepared to do it again on the same world. (I'll probably join the new server/map though when 1.8 is released).
Ord, i've been in that base and it did NOT have any protections put over it whatsoever except for LWCing the chests. And to my knowledge worldguard had been up and running perfectly when the person who took it over raided it and protected it themselves. And i don't even think worldguard's even gone yet.... But in any case welcome back to the server :smile.gif:
Remember: we are not updating to 1.8 until Bukkit and at least most of our plugins do! Expect delays!
oh new map, we will welcome you. but i seriously hope we can transfer our plots to the new map. ineed my stuff in the new world......only loong away from many others so that i can make a house. that' s right, imma make a house nowXD tear down the Spaceship and make a house that stays there.
I rather dislike a server where you can be a vip for a couple of dollars. I think you guys should change that, either have none of it or make the price higher. Also if you make a place fun enough for the average minecraft player, you can get more from donations then ingame privleges. Like me I look for the fun servers and according to what I think I will donate money ranging from $5-$50. :biggrin.gif:
To those of you looking for a great server and those who are currently playing on IR:
This server was great, almost eight months ago. It was the first server I had joined on minecraft multiplayer, and at the time I believed it to be the only server I would ever join. It was flawless, it had great admin(s) who were very informative and a small community of regulars which were fun to compete against. And it was these aspects which made me believe that contributing back to the server would be ideal. So I donated six dollars which also came with its benefits. As time continued the server expanded and changed into something bigger and grander. I helped by greeting and helping new players to get the server more popular. It deserved it. Sure the server was down often at these times, but I ignored it and played whenever possible.
One of the major changes to the server at the time was a new city, where everybody could buy plots and make their homes or shops on protected land. I bought a few plots, and started making a new house too. It was made from many snow blocks and looked like a (not so small) small castle. It was the coolest thing I had made in minecraft yet. I continued to play and collect materials for a while as the owner added cool new plugins over time. Then I got the news that a new map had to be formed to replace the current one because warps (used in a teleportation plugin) were getting corrupt (I don’t remember the exact details, but it was something like this).
A new map was born. The city was gone which was soon replaced by a dull, boring one. My snow castle, and everybody’s hard work was erased and anger consumed me like lava on an ice-cream cake. The owner assured us that this would be the LAST time we change maps, and I took his word for it. Somebody immediately made a swastika and got banned. At this point I convinced the owner to supply me with the 10,000 snow blocks I had lost so I could begin working on another Ice castle, and so I did. Except this time, it was bigger and much better than before. It had a HUGE basement, with HUGE rooms for harvesting crops and other things. And I hollowed it all out of the side of a large hill. At this point I had started working hard to train skills for a plugin called MCMMO which was added to the server earlier on. I had worked hard on these skills so I could have advantages over other players both in and out of player verse player situations. Over time the outside of my snow castle started to get littered with dozens and dozens of double chests FILLED with materials. I was beginning to get bored with working on my snow castle, so I decided to make something REALLY cool, something that nobody has made before. And so I began to work.
I was making a massive multiplayer mini-game in the desert where player(s) would have to work their way through a series of rooms which contained obstacles and puzzles. The further the player went, the more money they would earn. I had only ever created about fourteen rooms for the mini-game (which required tens of thousands of sandstone) until IT happened. I can’t remember the reason, but we needed to change maps again. That pushed me off the edge, so I took a long break from minecraft and began playing (and kicking ass) at COD. While I was away from minecraft I knew that the owner allowed each user to choose one piece of their land to bring over to the next map. I wasn’t satisfied as I had two major pieces of work on the map; my home and the mini-game. So I decided I’d figure out what to do when I return to minecraft if I ever did.
Two weeks had passed since the newerer map was created and I went on the forums and asked if I could still get my stuff transferred over. An admin replied saying that the old map had been deleted. Remember that lava and cake metaphor I used earlier? Replace lava with a super nova, and Ice-cream cake with an ice molecule. I decided I was done FOR GOOD this time.
A couple months had passed and I had noticed minecraft had been getting a few cool updates. They seemed interesting so I wanted to get back into minecraft(ing). The first thing I did was try to start over and forget the past. Thankfully all of my stats from MCMMO had been kept and it was the only thing I had from all that time I spent. It was difficult forgetting the past, but I did it for about three days until I asked the question: “Is there ANY way there MAY be a backup of the old map with my stuff?” A moment later I found myself standing at the spawn point of the map which had my awesome snow castle 2.0 with the dozens of chests and my awesome unfinished mini-game. I couldn’t believe my eyes! I was so relieved I could be with my works of art again. The owner then helped me find the mini-game and later I found and marked down the location of my snow castle.
The owner then began to tell me I could NOT bring my castle, or my mini-game over to the newerer map due to a chunk error which he knew about the whole time. Hammer to the face, please? He then told me that I could, however, bring my materials over to the new map. That cooled me down a bit, but I valued my actual buildings more than the materials. But I accepted it. Later that day I was told, by the owner, that the plugin MCMMO will probably be removed because he found a "better plugin" to replace it. All the extra work I had put into developing my stats on MCMMO every day I played may be lost forever. GREAT.
Later that day I had an encounter with another regular player who has played almost as long as I have. We started to kill each other which I enjoyed since I haven’t had a nice taste of diamond sword to the gut in a while. But it didn’t stop, time and time again this other player kept coming back and attacking me, I think he was mad at me for some reason. Perhaps because he lost a few items? Who knows? So I logged off and decided to come back when he’s gone. I log back in an hour later and find that all my materials on that map had been put under protection by that same player. What a jerk. We both couldn’t access the chests because there were two plugins that had a part in this. My chests were protected by “LWC”, and the land they were on was protected my “residence”.
I waited for the next day when the owner would be on to help remove the land protection from my chests so I could access them, since he had also helped me with similar situations in the past I assumed he would. Noooope, not going to happen. Apparently what the other player did was ok with rule six: Owner’s word is law. So now I can’t access my stuff on a temporary map which will be deleted in a few weeks because the owner won’t let me. What the HELL! …Next paragraph, “sigh”.
A couple days later (a few hours ago) I decide to confirm with the owner that I will be able to bring my materials from the 1.4 map over to the newererer map (1.9)once it comes out (the previous map (1.7)will be kept, and can be traveled to at any time). He replied saying I cannot bring the items over because it would be UNFAIR to the “others” who also lost stuff on the same map (which I doubt was anything close to what I had lost). I was furious but tried not to show it. I don’t think he knows what FAIR is. I could not believe how many times he had let me down up to this point. I tried reasoning with him but he said it was his final decision. I could forget about everything I had hoped of regaining. So I told him I’m going to leave if I can’t obtain my things. He said a few things along the lines of:
“ok, bye then.”
” Are you going leave?”
“Then get the hell out” (quoted two days earlier when I told him “I’m failing to see a good server” in an argument about my chests under protection)
It would seem he’s never liked me in the first place judging by the way he’s talking to me, and doesn’t care the slightest if I leave. He’s not exactly being nice to one of his oldest players still active. So I tell everybody I am leaving, why, and I click the button. Now ask yourselves a question: Do you want to be on a server where the owner lies and your hard work will all be gone at a time’s notice?
I’ve tried finding a new server to join, but nothing meets my standards like Immortal Realms once did. It’s a shame, really. For now it would seem I’m going back to the Xbox until I find a good server to start fresh on.
MCMMO isnt being replaced because we found something better, its being replaced because it eats up almost 1GB of the server's RAM and has been the main cause of so many server crashes in the past. Such crashes are possibly what corrupted the old map, making some stuff unable to transfer. :tongue.gif:
Most of us would prefer a more stable server to material things that can always be rebuilt.
when Dade said
“ok, bye then.”
”Are you going leave?”
“Then get the hell out”
he was probably just joking around thinking that you wouldn't leave since your one of the oldest players
I was on one of the older maps as-well and I had 3 major projects : my castle (which is the one I chose to transfer), my floating island and a giant rubiks cube. I chose my castle and personally didn't mind if I didn't get a choice since like you said in your post you got bored after a while which is the reason why I didn't mind if I didn't have anything transferred over. the only reason I got the castle transferred was because me and EyeConicMonkeh had worked really hard on it and it was both our homes but he left (haven't seen him for about 2 months) so that's the only place that has memories of him so that's why I want to keep it.
once the 1.9 map comes I'm probably barely ever going to be on the 1.7 map since ill get a mushroom island protected (hopefully) and build some epic stuff on there.
Nah, I wasn't joking. :smile.gif:
Anyway. Don't update to 1.9 when it releases! We will likely be on 1.8.1 for a week or more once mojang updates. Stay tuned here and on minestatus.net!

After reading all this, I feel I must clarify: We ARE going to have few days to transfer materials over to the 1.9 map before 1.8 is deleted, right?
Immortal is the best Pvp survival server out there with very supportive staff and a very understanding owner. Please come give us a try, plenty of room for new players!

It's awesome.
