Thread info
Hi, this is not the typical complain thread, but more of a opinion sharing and discussion.
In 12w06a AKA 1.2 pre-release mobs drop armor, swords and ingots.
Now we can literally farm Iron.
A test made by me :
Do you think this is positive or negative for gameplay?
A test made minutes before making this thread :
remember this system is random, and the results down were probably just because i was lucky that night, those are not the same results of other hunting nights
I went out at night, no armor and just a stone sword.
Outcome : 2 iron swords and 1 iron helmet
What does this means for gameplay?
A player in a new world could get end-game equipment in his first 5 nights if he stays out to kill monsters.
PROS and CONS
Now, overall conclusions of how this affects gameplay
PROS :
- More reasons to go exploring caves or going outside to kill monsters
- Easier obtainable weaponry and armory.
CONS :
-farmable iron ( which is considered overpowered by some players )
- New players can get end-game gear in just 2 - 5 nights.
Most popular opinions
- Drops should be reduced a little
- Should drop chainmail armor instead of iron
- Should be left the way it is
- Should drop iron nuggets that could be crafted into ingots.
- The drop rates should be based on the difficulty settings
New info :
Rare drops are not only Zpigmen, zombies and skeletons, Endermen also drop DIAMONDS, please add this to your opinions, if you want you can change your vote if you need to.
Yeah... not gonna happen..
Leave your own opinions in the poll and you will probably change the destiny of minecraft...
You can get iron ingots but you only get like 1 ingot every 100 zombies... also what good does a stock pile of iron swords do for you? I know I can fill my armories without having to waste my crafting iron... I don't see how this is going to change the balance of the game at all.
Currently the only armor I've seen drop is the helmet too.
You can already farm gold at a much higher success rate if you rape the nether of it's pigmen population

Playing Minecraft since [Friday, March 19, 2010, 9:20:21 PM] (First indev world save)
Since in vanilla Minecraft you can't turn Iron armor or tools into ingots, the only value it has is to keep you from having to spend 20+ ingots for a set of armor. Iron's still used heavily for minecart rails, doors, fencing and the like.
I won't talk about modded Minecraft. I can't get enough iron with what I play, and that's with being able to melt down final products for ingots. :sad.gif:
Skeletons could have a chance to spawn with it. Stronger Skeletons. Woot.
But seriously, we need to get this iron thing under control. Leather is useless, and Iron basically is all you need, and you can get it with almost no effort.

I don't know what's the problem with droppable iron items. Iron is so extremly easy to get in large amounts anyway.
A player in a new world could get end-game equipment in his first 5 nights if he stays out to kill monsters.
Huh, i always thought any player can get end-game equipment in his first 1-2 nights. Get wooden pickaxe, dig, get stone pickaxe, dig, get iron pickaxe, dig, get diamons and yay! You are all geared up. Also, i always thought this game is not about getting top equipment.. But about creativity and freedom? Depends on your playstyle you say, but meh.. Why do you even need best possible gear? To keep digging? Fight and dig for eternity? It does not matter for online servers anyway, they usually have their own rules and drop lists.
At least now killing zombies is a little more fun, since you can get some random nice rewards.
To balance out the items, have them pre-damaged/pre-used when you get them as a drop. Somewhere between 25%-50% durability.
I like this idea. I think they should also have the protection of the item because otherwise why would they have it?
OP: I don't see how iron is "end-game gear." You can go mining and find iron in the first few nights and get more than you can get by killing monsters.

Killing a zombie was supposed to be to defend yourself, not to rack up more piles of iron stuff.
Unless mobs are going to become much stronger, and armor be nerfed, this needs to be removed.

Having the monsters rear the item (and benefit from it) would be amazing as well. Like early Survival mode

Of course, the way you get items highly depend on your playstyle.
Take me for example, my playstyle is like a farmer, when i start the game the first thing i do is build a house.
Then make Wheat and Animal farms to give me food
And until i dont have a two-story house i would not even think of going to a cave.
But someone that when he starts makes a pickaxe and goes mining until diamond and spelunking will get stuff like iron and diamond faster than someone that plays like a farmer.
However im glad most people is voting the options i myself voted, which were :
-Not at all, i do a lot of effort killing that much zombies, i deserve that armor
-Nerf it a little
Yeah, you can say that im kinda contradicting myself but i have my own motives and opinions that only i understand...
I like this change. On my server none of us typically use our iron on armor, or tools since we use so much on pistons and rails. Stone tools have always worked ok until we get diamonds.
Now being able to get some armor or weapons from mobs gives us a chance to be better outfitted with out burning through our iron stores.
I hate everyone who thinks this is an issue, because everyone is assuming that all players play the game for the same reason and play the same way. Everyone is always worried about "balance issues" and worrying that some things are too powerful and some too weak.
Give it a goddamn rest I say. This isn't some ****festfreeforallmmo where everyone needs to be equal for things to be fair. This is Minecraft. Make up your own play style, use the tools given too you by the way of game mechanics. Who cares if bread is to easy to get but mushroom soup doesn't stack. Who cares where you get your iron sword; mining or fighting, it doesn't matter because you chose to do it that way and it only effects you personally.
So quit trying to change MY game so we can all be equal for no reason.

Dunno though, we'll just have to see how it goes. Long as it's not diamond armor and tools dropping then I don't really care.

I like your opinion.
A lot of players have different playstyles.
Some prefer to go mining all day. ( some of them in peaceful )
Others like the combat part of the game.
Now both type of playstyles will get equal benefits.
Iron armor needs to be nerfed, or the dropping ne nerfed, or we go back to the old armor system
Opinions aside... It's Minecraft. Mining is 80% of the game.

And the drop rate should be toned down a bit.

Any way this is what I got in order:
The two enchanted bows are Power lvl1.
I think the drop rates are pretty much correct.
Hm...that sounds interesting. That isn't as bad since it's not an issue like iron is
