First off, whoever said Endermen were weak really must be joking. Even before 1.1 endermen would do 1.5 to 2 hearts damage per hit, and that was with iron armor. They also teleport frequently to avoid being hit, often reappearing behind you and getting another hit or two in before teleporting away after you swing at it again... No, endermen are fine the way they are, especially with the armor downgrade.
Second, I dislike the armor update. If the few in favor of the change want a bigger challenge, then ask for more difficulty options. I understand the concept of balancing gameplay for skilled players, but you have to understand that the average minecraft player isn't going to be as skilled as those who pushed for weaker armor... and YES, armor should give an advantage. And the better the armor, the better the advantage should be. Otherwise I agree with the point made that it becomes pointless to mine resources. Armor should not have been tweaked. Jeb could have appeased both sides of the fence by creating more levels of difficulty.
Third, there is definitely a huge difference in how weak armor has become. I did a test run with creepers and iron armor. At point blank in 1.0 I was only losing two and a half hearts. Now a creeper almost kills me even though I'm wearing iron. Personally, I might as well go running around without armor, because it now seems like a waste of time doing the work to mine the resources and craft it.
I am very glad to see people are enjoying the fact the game isn't as broken and easy now. Once we get better mod AI and such, it will feel even better!

Actually, the average player IS skilled enough to play the game with weaker armor. The people who insisted that armor should grant god mode either don't understand what a properly balanced game is like or suck more than the average player. I'm sure as Hell not an expert gamer with mad skills, I get crushed in any PvP or competitive game (not just Minecraft, pretty much any game), yet I've never had any problems surviving in Minecraft. All it takes is a little caution. Plus the game offers a number of ways to make your armor more effective. It doesn't make sense from a design standpoint to negate any need for those game systems by making base armor so effective the player is practically invincible.

Because almost kills is obviously no better than kills.
Still haven't seen any solid data with evidence to back up this 'stealth nerf'. Might help instead of raging over something that isn't real/intended/without hard facts? :tongue.gif:
Creepers at point blank do 4 hearts to full iron armor(used to be half a heart XD).
What I they should do if I were in full iron on hard: 5 hearts
If you were in:
Leather:7
Diamond:3.5
I also wish leather lasted a very long time considering iron is ultra common.
"I like my armor protecting me."
Well, if you don't remember, not only did they double the defense of armor in 1.0.0 but also made it where it kept the same defense. You effectively got a double benefit.
Either you make armor weak but keep the defense value or make it strong but make it degrade defense as you wear it.
For those of you who play hard mode but whine about armor being nerfed(I honestly don't see a difference, armor is still op as fuq), play on easy mode.
Just because armor doesn't completely nullify all damage doesn't mean it does nothing. I can't think of any other game where mid level armor is akin to god mode like in Minecraft. People seem to forget that even diamond armor isn't top tier, anymore.

Amen.
People keep forgetting that the defense stays on the armor, that's the key thing.
Hell, even when it degraded fast and lost defense I made tons of it. BACK THEN armor was perfect except for the defense degrade but I still loved it. People who baby step in combat need to get weened off of immortality and realize that combat is more about strategy.
Edit: I literally hugged a creeper with full iron and it did 6 hearts!!!!!!
*loves Jeb*
I guess he did fix armor(it was actually bugged btw) and it should stay this way.
I am in the Army, and I like my armor to protect me. You high speed kids can go ahead with your epic mob battles, but I'd like quality armor back.
Just saying, no armor makes a person immortal, or immune to damage. If there was such an armor, then there would be no casualties in any war of non-third world countries as the countries fighting would have this amazing armor.
In real life, if you get shot with armor on, you'll take less bodily damage from it and be able to retaliate but you won't be nearly as unstoppable as Steve the Iron-coated from Minecraft 1.0.0.

Not to mention that that was w/o enchants.
This new nerf gives enchants at least some point.

Look at soldiers from Vietnam. They did not wear much armor at all. Now look at soldiers. I actually like feeling protected by my armor. If people want an rpg, they should play wow imo.

I did say it protected you, but it doesn't make you immortal.
Armor in Minecraft 1.1.0 protects you, but it doesn't make you immortal. Unlike 1.0.0 where you were immortal after finding and refining 24 pieces of Iron Ore. Even if you take several direct hits, you'll still be alive because of your armor and that means it's doing its job of helping you stay alive in a battlefield.
If you don't want to die, play on Survival Peaceful/Easy, or Creative mode.
We should all face facts, btw. Minecraft Survival is part RPG and Sandbox. I begrudgingly accepted it during the 1.9 pre-releases. :dry.gif:
In 1.0 if you had a full set of iron everything would do half a heart, if that.
Even a creeper explosion, which is an explosive blowing up directly in your face. That's just silly is it not?
Not to mention iron is almost the most common resource in the game.

So your armor can withstand several nukes, countless bullets, and potential lava while still providing complete defense and not taking a scratch?
Dear god, technology is more advanced then I thought.

If I remember correctlyyy, in 1.8 or 1.9, the armor was nerfed like this. Aka it did a flat rate, no matter the durability of the armor. Iron always 35%, diamond always 50%, etc. 1.0 added a bug that brought it back to the old way (aka, Durability %=defense, 100% durability=100% damage reduction), and 1.1 just fixed that bug again back to how it was intended.

...this is a game. Not reality. In reality as well, armor HELPS STOP HARM, does not prevent it. You really make yourself quite silly arguing you want god-mode armor, and try to compare it to real life situations, where with 'the best' armor of today, people die just as easily to bombs or rockets, aka, how war is fought now, not army vs army in the sense of soldiers lining up and shooting at each other.
But that's not the point. Point is, this is a gmae, games will be balanced, don't like it, install a mod to fix it? :smile.gif:
> Throws the rest of the diamonds into a lava pit.
I wonder when the human mind will be getting a nerf?
I'm finally back. See profile for details.
