I think that it is a bad idea as it makes wooden doors worthless unless you do something like this in witch it is there for looks(superflat for clarity)
As it takes like 30 seconds to do this, and the zombies won't even try to get to you.
im pretty sure that they will just jump over the gap with the new AI
I would love it if they included jumping animations with zombies, and sprinting! Sprint jumping would be so ****ing awesome. Come on Jon make zombies capable of jumping over two block gaps to get to you. Then give them critical hits for hitting you while jumping.
Guess what. If you want zombies to randomly come into your house, then you can just leave your doors open (or don't build doors!). No change was required. Thus, there is no benefit to anyone by the change unless you plan on thinking that it's neat to see a door get broken after the third time.
For the rest of us, this change just means 1) we don't play on hard anymore, 2) we no longer use wooden doors, or 3) we put a dirt block in front of our doors now. That means that people not interested in having zombies in our house at night, this means that we are slightly inconvenienced (at the very least, hard mode is no longer available).
So what you have now is a change that was not required in order to achieve its goal, at the expense of slightly inconveniencing people.
I think this is just another stupid attempt to make the game more rpg-ish, and I've stated elsewhere that I think those steps are stupid. When I want to play an rpg, I play skyrim. When I want to play awesome legos, I play minecraft

Undead break down doors in Skyrim? I have never noticed this. How is a zombie breaking down a door an rpg feature? Apparently sandbox in your mind = retarded AI, monsters that finger themselves in the butt until you kill them.
I think this is a great immersion-type thing. Change in difficulty? Not much. It makes a use for the iron door, and it makes zombies a bit scarier, though not actually that much more dangerous. Not a big change, but I really can't view it as negative.

Player vs. environment (PvE) is certainly a hallmark of rpgs. Increasing focus on combat situations against hostile mobs certainly fits into the category of PvE.
It's a peripheral point anyway. You can love Minecraft's switch towards RPG elements and still recognize that this was a pointless change.
All this update really does is discourages the use of wooden doors, and forces the player to simply wall themselves in for the night. No real difficulty added. Just a gimmick that can be easily worked around. I don't see why anyone would bother to even make wooden doors anymore, except between rooms on the interior, and perhaps maybe for the one-time thrill of seeing a zombie bust through their door.
You seem to be forgetting that doors have little windows on them that let you know whether it is safe to go outside. You don't want to break down dirt blocks in your doorway just to find a creeper behind them.

My 'fort' setup right now is basically a wall with a door. I can always see what's on the other side.
This zombie-breaking-door feature is probably meant exclusively for villages considering it's way too narrow for gameplay difficulty. I mean yeah, it could add to certain instance, but not very much.
If you people have problems with it either kill the zombies before they do it, open your doors while you play, block off unnecessary doors until Jon adds the necessary tweaks that will make it not annoying at full release. I mean do you think they are just going to keep the ability for them to just bust down any door for shelter during the day. That would get obnoxious.
They'll tweak it by next snapshot. Make sure you get your proper feedback "zombies breaking random doors for shelter is annoying" to Jon on twitter.
Skeletons can still shoot you because of the air above it. So you would need to torch the crap out of everything.
I use double fence gates, one stacked on top of another, it takes an extra click to open, but it is absolutely safe, and hearing about this probably very safe from zombies. So there.
If im not mistaken, in every zombie movie ever. Dont people barricade the doors and windows? so... Isnt that what some are suggesting?
Simply hear this out. No doubt zombies will gain block breaking ability and maybe youll be satisfied then. But please note this is a weekly update. not the new patch. Things will change.
No one complained when beds were put it, Sure they werent as useful as they could have been but they were put in to BUILD ON. Not to be a finished product This should be treated no differently.
Yes.
Anyway all you need to do is to pick up a sword and kill that lucky zombie.
After that your all right for the rest of the night.

...Use iron doors?

How to not die in a cave

It act the same as a wooden door and zombies can't destroy them. Plus they are cheaper to make AND stackable.
Skeletons can still shoot you because of the air above it. So you would need to torch the crap out of everything.
I've been saying that since the beginning :tongue.gif:

I've got a better question.
Why do people who love stupid design decisions always try to turn the argument into a personal attack on those who stand against their position?
This is a stupid development to the game. I don't care if you love it like no tomorrow. It's stupid. It's a bad, stupid idea.
I bet it get's undone.
