As for swamps, what I meant by "useless" is that not many people like them. Swamps are the sort of thing that were only cool in the pre-releases, but now they are plainly annoying and ugly. The fact that they have more mushrooms doesn't contribute anything.
Yeah, seriously, the only real thing swamps have are the lilly pads.
Places that have mushrooms:
Mushroom biome(lol)
Caves
The Nether
I guess swamps are supposed to be ugly but I really wish I could change the green to a better dark green, one that doesn't look like smeared baby ****.
That would be an unfair scoring system. Jeb hasn't worked on the game as long as notch has, and half of the time Jeb has been working on the game, he was set back by Notch.
Wait another year or so, then use this point system.
I said the point thing more as a way of expressing that he is doing really well. Everyone here takes things too literally.
Here was the problem with Notch. Most, if not all, of his contributions to the game were quaint additions that did little to advance gameplay, and were meant to be perceived as "cool new features". Weather, Endermen, enchantments, etcetera. To have an employee who only designs cool new features, is a tremendous asset. To have an employer who only designs cool new features, and has the work ethic of an employee, does not make sense. Jeb should have been making the decisions since day one, with Notch relegated to a programming position like everyone else.
Why do you insist on giving the credit to Notch when he has said countless times he is against Mods in every way, shape, and form. He said it AGAIN at Minecon and it was one of the reasons he was leaving. Jens said more mods will be getting added now that he is in charge.
Why are you completely unwilling to credit Notch with creative mode when it was entirely his creation to begin with? Why do you insist on lying about Notch's stance on mods?
As it turns out, Notch is the only one who has added a mod. He implemented Scaevolus's save format back in early beta.
Notch has stated, from the get-go, he is against mods. Anyone who has been around since the beginning knows this. Do some damn research before you call me a liar.
On January 13, 2011, Notch included the FastRender mod by Scaevolus. This is the only mod that has ever been incorporated into the game.
I don't like mods anymore. I feel like they aren't authentic enough. I prefer how Mojang does it and not private scripters. I would only use the mod API for optifine.
The amount of complaints on the forums has gone down a bit since Jeb took over.
In jeb we trust!
All the threads that complain are usually just misleading titles and the actual thread compliments everything Jeb added.
If Notch was completely against considering ideas of mods, then I really would have to say Jeb is better for the game. Maybe Notch was too sentimental about the game and needed to be more open-minded and less arrogant and take good ideas into account, key word 'good'.
It's just you. People seem to completely miss the fact that most of what was added prior to Jeb taking the helm were all things that the fan community had demanded. They also seem to miss the fact that the vast majority of what Jeb has added since the launch are things that were originally supposed to be in the Adventure Update, but didn't make the cut due to the deadline. Even if Notch had stayed at the helm, these same updates would have been made since they were already slated to be made.
Of course, since it's not Notch, anymore (even though most of the work prior to launch was done by Jeb, anyway) and the launch has passed, we're all suddenly more patient. Nothing's really changed and topics like this are more pointless than ever.
Things people actually asked for
-Larger biomes (most probably weren't expecting biomes this large though)
-Larger oceans
-Less chunk errors (I still do not know why people didn't like these)
-Better biome transitions (No more checkerboard transitions and weird snow squares)
-Improved Nether(It's better, but Nether fortresses are largely useless.)
-Creative mode
-Different game modes
-realism mode
-SMP list (Added but is limited)
-More achievements (Added)
-Sprinting
-Food bar (Half the people liked this idea, and half the people didn't like this idea. It should be optional if they actually listened to us when 1.8 was released.)
-More mobs
-Different types of slimes(Added but underwhelming)
-Craftible mob (Most people shot this idea down. It definitely wasn't popular.)
-Endermen (Well people wanted an intimidating mob and this was the end result. It's still rather underwhelming)
-Strongholds (Underwhelming, we wanted a challenge, not a maze when we asked for super dungeons)
-NPCs/Villagers (Wasn't a very popular idea)
-Sheep regrowing wool (Didn't make it until 1.1)
-Mob babies
-Portable way to spawn mobs (Long awaited)
-Ravines (Implemented horribly IMO)
-More combat options (Improved but underwhelming)
-More farming(pathetic example of improving farming. It's the same damn thing, only with large mushrooms and watermelons and pumpkin seeds, which are still super rare)
-Watermelons/ way to grow pumpkins
-Way to obtain apples (Thank you 1.1)
-Vines/alternate block to cobblestone
-Better swamps (Took how many complaints to fix them)
-More stair types
-Fence gates
-Making it easier to build with fences
-Attachable fences
-Iron bars
-New music disks
Things that people didn't ask for
-Mushroom biome
-Larger mushrooms
-Any form of levelling system(Majority of people never wanted this to ever be in Minecraft)
-Potions(Most people never wanted this in Minecraft.)
-An ending to the game (Largely unpopular idea. Don't know where they got it from)
-The End (Ugly- sky world was what people wanted, not this!!!)
-Enchantment table (Very unpopular idea before it was added)
-Brewing Stand (We wanted the cauldrons from 1.9 instead. Brewing stands took all the potential from potion making)
-Silk Touch (People wanted more proper ways to obtain these blocks)
-Glowing armor/items (There was no point and not realistic. This was before they through realism out the window in 1.0)
-New Lighting system (Noone asked for it)
-Window panes (wasn't really needed)
-Changing game sounds (Noone asked for this)
-Opening/shrimp sized chests (There was problems with this idea. Problems that still persist since they included chests)
A lot of these things were requested, but they were hardly considered the most asked for ideas. The community will ask for literally anything. A lot of this stuff is not because the community asked for it, and some of it wasn't popular even when it was first announced. I think a lot of the most popular ideas were needed to make the game more complete. Unfortunately a lot of the ideas that were associated with a fully released game were missing in 1.0 and are now being added. Notch spent so much time working on things noone asked for, that it was no surprise that they didn't have time to include all the biomes in 1.0 or a lot of the popular things that weren't added in 1.8.
Notch spent way too much time working on The End. 1.0.0 would have been much better off if Jeb was in charge. He would have known right off that the majority of us didn't want a lackluster boss battle. We requested interesting boss battles, but there wasn't really a lot of support that would warrant that most of the full release prep time be spent on just one.
If they focused on NPCs more than the End, then I think Minecraft would have been a much better off. A skyworld would be much better off for infinitely spawning boss arenas, rather than just a bland one and done dimension. Notrch truly doesn't know what a full game is or what we wanted. We wanted new things to explore not a bland boss battle that is not worth the hours it takes to reach. A whole new explorable area is a million times more worthy of an end game reward than the entirety that the End is. It is because of Notch that we got the End and not something more interesting.

This paragraph explains why I was a bit disappointed with the "full" release.
That, and the swamps.
I think Notch's problem was that he tried to add too much things, I think he got too excited about the game and didn't really see where he was going. I'm glad that Jeb stepped in, he's doing good things, he listens to the community a lot more than Notch, but remember, Notch created Minecraft and he did a lot of good things with it, he just tried to go too far.
Notch started new things and worked on 3 games at once. Jeb has only ever worked on minecraft and has successfully finished all of the holes that notch left
i can't tell honestly..i still see the same amount of bitching.
Personally, Jeb is doing a good job. I like what he's been doing, specially regarding vines (been wanting those things to be makeshift ladders since i saw them.) The Spawn Eggs make for some devious traps for adventure maps.
i can't tell honestly..i still see the same amount of bitching.
Not true. The "bitching" (aka complaining about things that are an incoherent mess) existed in the first place because Notch never bothered to read the forums while making 1.8.
I don't know if it's actually that _Jeb is better for Minecraft than Notch, as I'm fairly certain that it would come down to opinion, but he definitely helps to make the game in the image that the players want. The only major rage topics I've seen since _Jeb took over are the ladder hitbox removal and the fact that he replaced Notch. Besides that, he definitely seems to better create what the majority of the community wants.
tl;dr - He might not be better for Minecraft, but he's definitely better for us.

The thing everyone hated on 1.8 and 1.0.0 was the terrain, and he fixed that. I don't see how that isn't good for Minecraft.

That's just stupid... It's like you hire someone to design a house for you from scratch and you taking the credit.

Jeb makes the tiny updates that everybody loves.

True that.
