I have the same problem when making a treehouse, never knew other people had it though. hopefully once jeb gets the code cleaned up and make jungle tree's their own tree with a sappling he can change it so they wont decay

Except, what if you destroyed the entire trunk? The leaves would still be there, and would never decay.
Unless this is to be the desired effect (floating canopies anyone?), there are still issues.
In case you were wondering why I +1'd all of the posts of yours in this topic, it's my thanks for this fantastic seed.
Gracias
De nada man =) As soon as i found it i tought it could be interesting then i saw a couple of people saying they wanted only jungles on an island i then you cam here and well i tought its time to share it.
Im glad you like it and as you i have some plans for it as well but first of all, jeb should work on this decaying thing, its tearing my jungle apart.
BTW you should go and explore yourself, i didnt explore much and it might have more features than i tought but keep it for u, i want to discover those by myself =).

Like someone said its a good idea to increase the support of leaves from Jungle wood only and keep the jungle alive that way.
Same in 1.7.3,natural leaves that are 9 away will decay.
Nevertheless, I did not see the same leaf decay with per-generated oak trees to the same extent (or at all, for that matter) prior to Beta 1.7.3.
This may be one reason why the performance of Minecraft has decreased, albeit a temporary one, especially in jungles. It must be rather taxing on one's computer to calculate leaf decay for all applicable trees (big oaks or jungle trees) within loaded chunks as well as rendering any entities as result of the decay (i.e. saplings and apples).
There must be a few dozen trees in several chunks that can begin degrading within moments of starting a new world. I don't know if anybody else has noticed it, but I've experienced a slight performance drop for at least 10 minutes after beginning a new world on several counts.

Thinking bout it... you are right, if the computer has to do everything what it has to do on minecraft plus calculating the decay its going to be very laggy. Although im not sure if the big oak tree was prior 1.73, id say its newer than that.

Big oak trees did exist for a very long time prior to Beta 1.8, actually. From what I've noticed, much larger variations of this type of oak tree generated in versions up to Beta 1.7.3, often in a higher frequency as well.
Ironically, those did not have the tendency to decay, despite being much larger than most big oak trees in versions following Beta 1.7.3.

Yeah, they are in the game sisnce long time and that didnt happend, thats why i wonder why it is happening now! Something strange is that the bigger pine trees are not decaying despite their lower rings are far away from the trunk.
I'm in support for some kind of fix to this. It hasn't affected me personally but I wouldn't want it to. Only reason why I've never noticed is because my worlds tend to be short-lived. I have noticed leaf decay on healthy trees though, just it was very slow.
Its slow but in the end your trees will be leaveless ! Its like autum in minecraft =/. ANyways our world tend to be short living lately because of th econstant changes on the generation, hopefully we wont have to suffer that anymore, or anymore soon
its the vines, they grow and update the leaf blocks starting the decay cycle. find an old big tree in a previous world and add a vine to the top, when it grows it will update the leaves and ones too far from wood will go.

Im pretty sure you are right, vines growing and updating the leavis provoking the decay.

So your world is in advance state of decomposition man =/ Sucks really mad!

Im pretty sure we didnt had that problem before.
