When trees such as birch and pine came out, for a while they didn't have sapling versions either. I'm wondering if this is that sort of case or maybe jeb isn't going to make a sapling version because it would be too over-powering to have access to that much wood. Each Jungle tree consists of about 130 logs. And with a large amount of bonemeal and saplings, basically, you would never have to find a forest to get wood. What do you think?
it would not be overpowered to grow the big ones, there always seems to be trees within walking distance anytime I start a new map(exept ocean)and once you have a couple saplings you have wood forever anyway.
it might need to be planted in a tube of blocks to force them bigger like the oak trees.
I would like to see jungle tree saplings implemented, but maybe limit their giant tree growth to only be possible (but still rare) inside a jungle biome, and have them produce a small tree everywhere else.
What if the trees grew continuously rather than a giant tree suddenly popping up out of a sapling, that would make it a bit better in my opinion :smile.gif:
I think that it should take a much longer time to grow and bonemeal doesn't instant grow them, but merely advances the growth time a day(or night cycle) So if it takes 5 days for it to grow, it would take 10 bonemeal to get it to grow right away.
theres is no reason you couldn't apply the cactus/bamboo growing in stages methods to a tree
What if the middle column got destroyed, would it still grow?
How would leaves grow while the trunk grows? Would the trunk stick out strange until it gets high enough to get another set of leaves?
eventually, yes. just like there were birch and pine trees, but no saplings for them; and then the saplings were added in a later update.
Now that biomes are a thing, I'd like to see if they can tinker with the sapling growth rate in various biomes. In real life, if you plant a palm tree outside in Norway, it won't grow. But in Minecraft, you can plant them anywhere and they will grow like grass if you want them to. It'd be nice to see jungle trees grow best in the jungle, birch trees grow best in moist areas, pines grow best in dry or cold areas, and regular trees be the generally available "everywhere" tree.

Jeb needs to make it so its lke a 1/200 chance of a giant tree

That would be a very interesting way to grow the giant jungle trees. Maybe have a "living" set of blocks on the top of the tree which will actively grow (move upward and leave behind non-live blocks), and sprout leaves, but make the leaves decay when they are too far below the "living" blocks. As the tree grows upwards, the lower leaves decay, the upper leaves are created, kind of like how palm trees grow. If the "living" blocks are broken, they turn into regular wood blocks and the tree stops growing. It wouldn't be too difficult to implement and wouldn't be any more cpu intensive than regular tree growth.
Jungle trees drop saplings with a different data value than oak trees. They do not stack with oak tree saplings, because they are NOT oak tree saplings. In the future they will grow some form of jungle tree, and have their own texture.
I was wandering through a jungle and (as always) there was a lot of saplings. I started collecting them, and when I was done, there were two groups of saplings that looked the same. I'm planting one at the moment.
EDIT: Nope, the saplings are the same, saplings dropped from jungle trees are oak tree saplings.
(This post is for those of you who don't know this already, unless it was in the first post, which then I was unable to see...)

Try stacking them. They don't stack with regular saplings. They're just placeholders right now, until he attaches the proper graphic and tree generation algorithm to them. The saplings are obviously unfinished.

When all is said and done, Will you have said more than you have done?
Remember kids, when the mod crashes delete system32!
Good luck mining away all that obsidian.
Also, you'll end up having floating blocks of bedrock.

Guys, check the snapshot. As far as I know they are already in (but same texture). Not sure if they can grow the 2x2 trees thogh.I was wrong.
In data they are 2 diff saplings but grow the same trees.

Yeah but there's a difference in just adding a block on top of another to making a complex tree
