Mobs themselves are more of the problem in my opinion as opposed to armor. One can have the best armor enchanted and what not and still be slain where as the even a disoriented new player can evade and defeat a slow uncoordinated mob with their fists. If a player wants to be invincible just swim a short distance off shore and take out mobs that attempt to chase you. Its that easy. Mobs need to be more powerful and at the very least more interactive to their surroundings and each other.
These possible fixes are suggested for hardcore mode ONLY for those players who's main ambition is building with mild survival.
In General:
they need to do MORE DAMAGE
They could use a limited sprint for chasing down players
Mobs need to have a damage perceptance and more active avoidance.
Increased Spawn rate
More specific enhancements:
-For example, imagine that creepers could burrow into 2 block deep, 1 block wide holes during the day. Then when player comes within 3 blocks... POP goes the creeper.
-In addition an decent amphibious predator (like alligators) or a nerfed shark would make Hardcore, well more hardcore. In addition it would curb the near invincibility for players swimming in (relatively) open water.
-Zombies and Spiders should be able to break blocks at least some of the time with the effiicincy of wooden pickaxes.
-Endermen should be more active their pursuit, disassembling (rapidly) whatever separates then from the player.
-Spider Jockeys would be so much harder if they had a pack mentality like pig men and spawned as such.
- Possibly an overall cooperation of mobs, at least as possible Horde mode type deal.-Skeletons need a wider awareness and be more accurate
-Endermen should be more active their pursuit, disassembling (rapidly) whatever separates then from the player.
I don't think you understand that the entire reason Endermen moving blocks was nerfed so much in the first place is because it caused a giant shitfest on the forums, reddit and twitter. There were tons of cries of "OMG they destroyed my stuff!" and people made in-depth videos to determine the exact rate per hour that Endermen would erode the terrain.
I liked the Endermen being more active in moving blocks around too, but in this case the majority has already spoken and Mojang has already listened.
The whole purpose of the forum is for people to state thier opinion. If u don't like someone else's ignore it.

I meant it only for hard core mode and only in pursuit of the player. That way builders are happy and survivalists are happy.

Yea, even with the new guy to work on AI I highly doubt they will create completely different AI routines for different difficulties.
You can never make everyone happy, that's just the reality of... everything. You're going to have to learn to accept compromises just like everyone else. Endermen already teleport when you shoot arrows at them, personally I wouldn't expect them to ever get more challenging than that.

And that's what we have mods for.
And that's what we will have a mod API for.
I think in Normal and Easy, Diamond should still be more than enough protection. Even in hard, I think it should make you a "notch" better then the mobs. However, having no armor needs to mean you hide in caves at night, expecially in normal and hard. Maybe not so much in easy. Iron should equalize you in Hard, better you in normal, and push you close to Notch-liness[Godliness] in easy. Leather should be there for one reason: Proloning time to run away. I don't think mobs should be able to kill you easily, unless you're facing large quantities, not always at once. I.E. You're collecting materials near your home, a zombie or two is easily dealt with. You're mining without torches in a cave, the numerous mobs you'll face are capable of killing you. I also don't think mobs, aside from Endermen, should be able to effect blocks. Minecraft is a sandbox game, meaning building is at least 50% of the point of it, and what you build should'nt be effected. But it's also called survival for a reason.
Although, on that topic, minecraft is a combination of survival and sandbox. You collect the materials with a challenge, building things with them. You can fight mobs if you want. Creative is where to go if you want pure building.
Apparently, I love typing.

I enjoy long walks on the beach, digging holes, and fighting creepers.
1. If it were made more difficult, then there would be constant threads about it being too hard.
2. There are almost certainly mods which will add more challenge to the game.
3. Jeb can do the most good by focusing on the localization, mod API, and serious game-breaking bugs first.
Actually, easy is VERY VERY EASY and hard is EASY. If there was difficulties for everyone, nobody would complain.
I agree, Minecraft is way too easy. Survival on hard difficulty is a joke. Once you get armor you can run around fearless of any MOB 24x7. The only real threat is falling in Lava.

Why should players on Hard have to gimp themselves because of you people who can't play on Easy/Peaceful?
Armor is imbalanced. There is no question about it.
